Wookie Groomer's 1080p Star Wars Saga project (Released)
Time

I have Wookie Groomer's first edition (from around the end of July) of Star Wars ANH (the one with the DTS audio option).

Haven't got around to watching it completely yet,  and I can't remember what the problem was with it. Since there was a 2nd, and now a third edition, I'm just wondering if anyone knows what issues there were with the first edition?

Since the DTS mix is "lost forever", maybe this one is worth keeping. No?

Dear Wookie Groomer,

Might just be a defect in my HTPC hard drive, but ROJ (proper) freezes and then stops at 2:14:29 (during the later part of the end credits.) Playback from a virtual clone drive using TotalMedia Theatre 2.125 with Reclock.

I'm going to burn it to a BD50-RE and see if it does the same thing in my PS3.

Still have the downloaded RAR's, so I can also try doing another extraction to a different HDD and see if the anomally is still there.

I kept the first version which I verified played fine all the way to the very end.

Will report back soon.

I've noticed some strange things happening when downloading headers from my Powerusnet server lately. For instance, a few minutes ago I thought I was getting "Star.Wars.Return.Of.The.Jedi.PROPER.REISSUE.Bluray.Format.1080P.part011.rar" but what actually appeared in my folder was "Années.80.900.tubes.année.par.année.128-192kBps.par.part54.rar".

Has this been happening with anyone else?

Just wondering... does everyone in hear actually use BluRay discs for their films? I guess I'm a little anti-BD and prefer to have all my films on tap without having to find a bit of plastic, put in the optical drive, wait for it to do what it needs and eventually start playing.  The cost of HDD's are so cheap, its crazy and for that fact you can just keep adding them to an external SATA multi-box of many kinds... it just makes anything that is 'still' on a spinning medium... well... ridiculas... iM

I was burning to BD25-RE and BD50-RE and playing back with a PS3 for a few months. Then I decided to build a HTPC. Now I play almost everything with it.

If you already have a fairly new (fast) PC, and can afford a video card with HDMI out (some have fallen recently to around $40) and the proper playback software (i.e. TotalMedia Theatre or PowerDVD 9) you'll be able to say goodbye to BD blanks.

I'll stop downloading ANH, and concentrate on ROJ (proper) for now. Watched ESB (proper) the other night. Looks and sounds perfect!!

Wookie Groomer: Thanks a bunch for fixing the center channel on ESB, and all the latest improvements :-)

Dear Wookiegroomer,

I've tried to D/L the latest ESB Proper Reissue but I'm coming up 79 blocks short. Tried to complete using both alt.binaries.starwars and alt.binaries.blu-ray.

Any chance of posting more PAR files?

Wookie Groomer doesn't post here anymore it would seem. Maybe I can help. With the 4 or 5 broken parts, I was able to repair the file with the existing pars. Make sure you got all the parts downloaded and also maybe you should try re-downloading the parts that are damaged. Hope this helps.

Finally managed to acquire the needed PAR files. Thanks anyway though. :-)

Thanks. I tried do overs, but no luck.

The RAR files that are the smallest in size are: 113, 142, 186, 275, 276, 278, 293, 294, 295, 296, 317, 344, 345, 346, 353. These are the actual file #'s needed (i.e: # 113 would have been posted as 115/425, but the actual file name # is 113.

But 4 or 5 additional large PAR files might do the trick.

Downloaded and previewed the final version. Nice of you to add the color correction comparison feature, and foreign language options.

I still need to boost the center channel 4db in order to get dialog balanced with the rest of the mix. And I still prefer the DTS 5.1 to the Dolby 6.1 ES.

Noticed one peculiar thing about the main menu: I'm able to make menu selections on my HTPC with a mouse pointer, but with a stand alone player (my PS3 to be precise), it is not possible to see any selection marker or highlight when using the up/down/right/left arrow key, making it impossible to tell which option is going to be selected.

But aside from these minor critiques, it's quality work. You are a very talented person.

Highly recommended.

Thanks again.

For those still debating whether or not to DL a 38.4 GB movie, I try to give my humble opinion.

Haven't watched the whole movie in one sitting yet, mostly just watched my favorite scenes, but I can say that what I have seen and heard thus far has been very pleasing to the eyes and ears. As I posted earlier, on my system, the center channel benefits by being raised about 4db. YMMV.

Included before the film, or main menu starts, is a THX trailer that I don't believe I've seen before. I won't describe it, so as not to spoil it for those who haven't seen it yet. But it's very cleverly done.

The main menu has 6 audio options! The film in DTS 5.1, or Dolby EX 6.1. (I preferred the DTS mix, seems to have a bit more "punch".) 2 Isolated Music Score (soundtrack only) tracks in DTS 5.1 or Stereo PCM options, and 2 running commentaries with cast and crew.

The picture quality is excellent. 1920x1080 MPEG-4 AVC encoded @ an average bitrate of well over 30Mbps. No pixelation, banding, or black level/contrast issues that I can perceive. I've previewed it on my 120" FP LCD, and 50" plasma systems. If this has been color corrected (which the previous screen caps seem to indicate), all I can say is that I'm happy with the colors.

There are 50 chapters, but no scene specific menu access, which is fine by me.

Since I haven't watched the entire film as yet, I can only say that I believe it to be the same (Special Edition) version that was screened on Cinemax HD about a year or so ago. Although I've read in this thread that there was also a screening in Germany. Whether this transfer is from the former or the later I cannot say.

For those of you with a fast internet connection, and a means to mount/play (or burn) a large BD .iso file, I'd say... GO FOR IT!

I can't wait for the rest of the films done in a similar fashion.

BRAVO!! Absolutely incredible work! Thank you. :-)

This Blu Ray edition will definitely hold me over until George decides to go blue.

Just one (very minor) critique. I have noticed that the center channel volume is about -4 db lower than the rest of the mix. I was having difficulty hearing voices over the music and effects. This was easy to fix by simply raising my center channel 4 db.

A stellar production! I am looking forward to future BD upgrades.
