Deepfake Tarkin & Leia swap (Rogue One) (up on the Shamook youtube channel)
Time

WOW I ACTUALLY CLAPPED AT MY SCREEN WHEN I SAW YOU ON THIS THREAD SHAMOOK! Welcome! as its been said before you have some fans here, myself included! There is incredible work to be done with your skill!

I am most excited to get a full release of (at least) the Luke deepfake in Mando! But hopefully maybe even a tweaked deepfake to allow some of the age (stubble around his mouth) and mouth movement back to the shots. There are some seriously talented VFX artists floating around this forum. Regardless I will still take your OG deepfake in the final Mando episode over the original (no hate just, more palatable to wider audiences).

WELCOME AGAIN! Great to have you here.

I’ll be very interested whenever someone integrates the Luke deepfake into mando! I will say just from the clip peasent provided, there are a few ideas to further edit/improve the look (although its very impressive already):

I think some subtle color correction on the face could go a long way.

Maybe something could be done opacity-wise to bring some of the stubble in the original back to luke’s jawline to bring some age.

After everything a slight layer of sharpening might help with the deepfakes “softening problem”.

The resting position of his lips are also uncanny when he speaks but I doubt anything can be done with that.

In fact maybe there could be an attempt to merge the original and deepfake like Tarkin, by overlaying them together (keeping the lower part of his face the same and using the deepfake on the nose up). Most people just have a problem with his eyes which the DF fixes but it cant do the lip sync like the original.

Just some thoughts lemme know what you guys think im obviously not a VFX artist.

Revenge of the Sith (The New Canon Cut) [DRAFT AVAILABLE]
Time

This Brain child has gotten me truly interested in the subtle possibility of a seamless/more seamless transition for characters and tone to The Clone wars. I am greatly impressed by the creativity, and although I would be really interested to see what the older more experienced editor you have become would do now with that creativity, I understand lack of time and energy as well as anybody else. But that is the beauty I have found with this site and it’s community, where one person is unable another picks up where they left off until we have all collaborated on something we can all be proud of!

Needless to say I would love to get a link to the full version and maybe in the future (unlikely but still) and maybe use your ideas as a partial base to edit from (if you are willing of course).

Thank you for the new perspective, and let me know if you would be alright with me or others using your work for other projects!

~Sincerely, a prequel appreciator.

CONGRATULATIONS HAL! I feel so humbled to have my name on that list. I will be downloading it and NOMATTER WHAT I believe this is the version I will show anyone and everyone I know for years to come.

It brings a smile to my face knowing I can now barge in on conversations with a simple trump card phrase “BUUUT you haven’t seen the right version of ROS 😉”.

May the force be with you all!

Hey HAL!

Just finished 6.1 LOVED IT! Only thing I thought was out of place was, again…The KOR voices. on Passana both the lines they say sound very layered on top of the audio and not…well said in that environment. Funny enough the voice lines on Exegol sound better its just on Passana where they sound so out of place, maybe because there is so little accompanying sound.

Also the second line after “Solo’s Wookiee” I legitimately could not understand for the life of me. Only after running it back 4 times I assume he says “I get his teeth”? Either way if something could be done with those lines as well I dont think I have any problems with it at all!

Still too quite as well. Had to max out my volume on my computer to make it sound appropriate,(and I’m wearing headphones).

The further polish is fantastic as well! The additional music makes the flying through the wall scene much better.

You guys even managed to pull off the Naboo shot, which is passable!

Everything you all have done is amazing and I’m so excited to have this in my library along with Poppasketti’s TLJ edit as my definitive SW versions.

FWIW, I had an issue with the size too until I googled “Adam Driver next to Carrie Fisher” and then “Adam Driver next to Mark Hamill” and realized Ben is actually smaller than he would be. Adam Driver is massive lol. I don’t think it’s an issue anymore since I think he’d look weird smaller but also awkward any taller

Yeah you are right for sure with the height. I should have been more specific when I said big I really meant I think his head needs to be a bit smaller and his body needs to be made a little less wide.

Hey jonh! Can I be extra picky? last Ben ghost image is amazing, I just think the color level on Ben’s cloak need to be adjusted very slightly to match the bluer whites of Luke and Leia. Also comparing the sizes again, I think he still might be a tiny bit too big, at least if you compare the size of his head to Mark’s. I understand if you would rather not but I think its so super close, and we can match the colors and the size it will be seamless.

…Also I think the left most side of his sleeve is a bit too wide but that doesnt really need to be changed.

You are awesome, I think its great work you’ve been doing here.

ALSO hey good to see ya again Poppasketti! Welcome back.

I think there is still alot of things wrong with the Naboo clip…AND I HATE THAT THERE IS. I dont like being the all negative guy here. I will list the things that I think keep it from being on par with the rest of the clips below. Honestly kind of leaning more towards just editing it out. The amount of work gone into it is super impressive but the absolute last thing I want is to watch this back with friends and not be satisfied/cringe at it looking too obviously fan made. I have to say it, but I think the work done here is amazing!

-Comparing the quality of the landscape painting to the other clips its clear its not from the same movie. This wouldnt be so bad if our focusing point (the Star Destroyer) was of better quality, but sadly its not.

-The smoke coming from the SD has subtle blue outline against a lighter blue or even orange sky behind it.

-The blacks/darkest points in the image dont match with the depth of the SD. This could be fixed by shading the right side darker to give it more depth.

-Like others have been saying from the get go (and I hate repeating things that have already been said but might as well list it here anyway), everything still needs to be slowed down a lot more. Watch the coruscant clip, I think we want just a little faster than that…and that is craaazy slow almost unnoticeable.

-The smoke has two main tails to it but based on the direction of the falling SD the trails should be moving up and left. Instead they are only moving straight upward.

-Just like the SD needing some shadows on its right side the right sides of the smoke needs to be darkend a bit since the light is coming from the left (it cant all be the same shade, think clouds in the sky at sunset).

-The two plooms of smoke are too different in lighting to be right next to each other (left one has a bunch of shading where the right one has none. This can be fixed I think if you duplicate the smaller ploom and move it to the middle of the two (plooms) overlapping the larger one and darkening the right side like the other two (assuming you decide to start shading).

-I think the other clip worked so well because it is obscured by smoke and debris. SO, my idea is maybe add some thin wispy clouds for the SD to fall out of (more aesthetically pleasing/plausible), giving the SD some depth and weight and also giving the plooms of smoke somewhere to go since they are just extending houndreds of miles until off screen.

-The last thing I think that would help the visuals in fitting with the other clips is upping the contrast and saturation to match the rest of the movie because of right now it looks washed out and easy to find whats wrong. When the darks are darker and the color is more colorful your eyes are drawn to those things first rather than the low quality 1999 painting/model.

I hope these elements help. I want the best product we can give. I so wish I could just do what I’m saying instead of asking others to do it for me but I have to live with my current limitations, and just hope you guys understand where i’m coming from.

Ok so I sent a message to Poppasketti letting him know our situation and asking him if we would take on the Naboo shot.
Ill keep yall posted for what becomes of it.

skenera: id love to check out the LUTs but I have no idea what im looking at when I download it…

HAL: I looked for the clip in The Mandolorian where the bigger Mando starts a fight and it ends with them crossing vibro blades but I couldn’t find anything on youtube. I know its there so if you can find it that clip might be what your looking for since there is no music or talking in the last shot that I remember.

kewlfish: I really like the new one honestly! I like it alot. its more subtle and more plausible up close. The funny thing is I think we could could even bear to add a tad more crackle trail when shes waving the blade at a distance such as in these shots: 0:09, 0:19, 0:22. Cause the close ups are really really good, but the distant shots seam the slightest bit inconsistent. So like every once in a while in an establishing shot when Rey (or Ben) swings really hard you could add just that small amount more to maybe the tip of the blade as almost a light trail, just an idea. I think all the closer shots in the second half of the scene looked great.

natm: Oh…Yes I’m definitively that close to Poppasketti…Anybody think it would be rude to go and ask him? Lol, I will if its just a simple direct message here onsite, but anything beyond that, I’m not sure how I can help beyond coming up with the ideas. I’m more the Lore/cinema hound here XD, wish I was talented with Photoshop.

HAL: I was getting pretty excited watching all of the different takes for the Palps message and I think we can definitively cheat the recording on top of the reactions. Its a very natural cinema technique and it honestly could give more significant weight to the scene (seeing Rey and Leia’s genuine feelings while they hear The Emperors voice). With some polishing to make sure its weighty enough I think that could be our best bet.

ALSO, I was watching some Clone Wars and came across this sound effect. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZCF5-Ey3hjs (best heard at 1:00)

Instantly thought of the Skywalker saber.
If you can Isolate the Vibro-Guillotine audio or find a better source I think this could be added on top of the OG audio for the cracked crystal sound (instead of using Kylo’s LS audio, which is a tad obvious IMO).

I also had another question for HAL. Is there a reason I’ve missed for why the Naboo shot has to be in the final version? I mean I AM ALL FOR IT IF IT LOOKS UP TO PAR believe me, but forgive me my doubts I am skeptic that it will get there. Regardless of that is there something I’m missing for why it needs to be in the final product?

Appreciate the work that went into the shot regardless!

Crackle saber is looking good! but small changes:

I hate to be overly picky and critical but well I guess thats why were here

0:36 I know this may be alot to ask but is there a way to make the blade less obviously uniform?

0:44 In this shot the blade looks too thick. The angle doesnt, help but the original clip survives this problem.

1:27 the end of the blade has very obvious “half opacity” spikes jutting out from the blade’s tip (I’d say be careful of just removing them alone without tweaking the sides, cause it might cause the rest of the blade to become to thick and not long enough).

1:53 there are spikes jutting out way to far from the blade at a distance.

I truly appreciate all the work you’ve put into this!

I wouldn’t be opposed to another “differently cracked” concept for the skywalker blade either, especially if its less uniform of an effect. I do like this effect too! Another option would just be interesting.

Hey everybody just wanted to pop in and give a small take on another addition thats made its way in to the latest work print. Unfortunately I am the negative Nancy here, I was blown away at how convincing that coruscant clip was in the end, but (I dont want to step on any creative toes here)I’m afraid I dont think the Naboo Star Destroyer works at all. I think the coruscant Star Destroyer worked because it was already an asset and because it was far away and obscured enough to be believable. Unless something can be done like that, to the naboo clip, I KNOW anyone I show this too will look at that clip and cringe. Again I dont mean to step on anybody’s toes, I always appreciate the effort in these edits.

Hey HAL, thanks for reading that over! I did notice the subtle DOTF tune at the beginning of the fight while I watched it and I think it could have worked if it carried through the fight, but since it is only there for 2 sec (or thats just what i heard anyway) and then gone for the whole thing it feels a bit strange to me, like a tease that doesnt have fulfillment. Maybe add it again nearing the end when things are even more intense so it carries more with the scene? Its just a bit confusing right now since it lasts such a short amount of time. Hope that makes sense.

If I may pop in to the current topic, after studying Kylo’s Lightsaber core more, I was wondering if kewlfish you could add a soft blue particle effect around the blade as well almost like a film grain to give it less of a sharp fluctuating edge. Kylos also had a more lightning effect as well but I dont think that needs to be added since this a different crystal and it is cracked differently.

Also glad you went for all crackle over healing HAL, its important to make sure the movie is watchable for normal audiences as well and if our family members dont understand than probably we should dial things back. I think the blade idea is good though, close to that line but good all the same.

Also felt that Ben’s death could have been longer and more impact-full, especially since Rey obviously just admitted her full feelings to him. Of course it would have to look and feel good though. also music change is iffy at best, idea has some merit but, yeah it would need to grow alot.

Hey all! Finally got time to check out the edit. I ENJOYED THIS SIGNIFICANTLY MORE. It was more…respectful and honest. Flowed far far better! Great work! Honestly I haven’t seen ROS since theaters so watching it again I was impressed but I didn’t realize (and I mean this as the highest compliment) just how much finagling you all have already done (this tends to happen), all in all I want to say from outside perspective I didn’t notice 95% of the changes and I think they healed 100% of the pacing problem.

P.S. is there a list of changes coming that havent made it into the workprint? Would love to see that since I dont know if I can go through another 100 pages.

I’ve been checking in on the new edits and ideas and i’d like to throw my two sense in as well, but for now I’ll stick to…

MUSIC/SOUND:
I think the Rey V Kylo indeed does need some additional scoring. This is coming from a HUGE John Williams fan as well, but after watching the normal version (feeling subconsciously underwhelmed) and some of the edits using Samuel Kim’s (also big fan) work I just felt far more immersed in the scene’s danger with a STAR WARS DUAL feeling to it. I do feel conflicted about changing something as precious as the film’s score but at the end of the day, I believe it serves the film better. And isn’t that what its all about?

I believe this is the audio used https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ykfWGc5MRFo&list=PL9PLUrw0CbcTK97xwPGVLs8EcZUIap54v
and as long as there is some clever finagling nearing the end of the fight when Rey is tiring I think this would work beautifully. Now I remember seeing HAL saying something like we would would need to get Samuel Kim to compose for this scene specifically to make it truly work. Can we just ask him? I know he does work for SW fan projects already I dont know why he would turn this down outside of time or some other variable (I dont know him personally or anything, just saying). If this is something you might consider pursuing HAL I wouldn’t mind trying to contact him about it (dont know how effective I can be doe).

I do actually like the addition of a short Jedi Purge insertion when Palps is blowing the fleet away, (perhaps a bit more subtle) it works better than I thought it would and it adds more dire emotion to the scene.

all for giving the Knights of Ren more personality (likely a touchy job but I have learned not to underestimate the power of fan boi edits, especially with Poppasketti around).

I dont much understand the dubbing of Boolio, is there something else crucial that we need to tell the audience (outside the state of the first order, which I think would be better served in the opening crawl)? Cause if its just the voice…um Mark Hamill nuff said. Especially since elsewhere the movie makes a point to provide translation to Alien speech.

I think thats it for the music and sound, EDITS/CHANGES are coming when I have time and sanity, I’ll give it a more scrutinized watch later but I just want to say…I am really truly impressed with the creativity in the workprint (the ending was genius!), I absolutely cannot wait to watch this with palatable sound quality! Great job everyone!
