i have been working on a little project for a while now. it was to redo the effect that made luke's lightsaber fat.
my 1st attempt a year back came out okay but everything else looked like it came out of a bad tanning salon.

i also tried to redo luke saber but the last part started feeling a bit wobbly
also brightened up the the room and removed the blue tint though i might have overdone it a bit

the idea was because of his reputation as a pilot and a jedi, many began to refer to him as "the skywalker"
Back story: mandolorians began attacking star systems on the outer rim. after much deliberation, the republic senate chose not to intervene. but that all changes when they began attacking several key systems in republic space. every able bodied men are drafted into the armed forces to drive out the invaders thus beginning the clone wars. the jedi chose to stay isolated but agreed to volunteer some of it's resources to aid the republic.
Among those who volunteered to aid in the war effort is mid twenties OB-1 kenobi; a clone of Benjatu Kenobi; a jedi master who was as famous and legendary as master Yoda.
He leads a small evacuation ship off a planet overrun by the invaders but disaster strikes when the only pilot is injured during the escape. obiwan asks the refugees if any of them had flight experience. only 1 raises his hand, Anakin Lars. with kind wise words from obiwan anakin successfully flies the ship and its refugee passengers out of danger. while on the ship to a refugee sector on tattooine, obiwan and anakin learn a lot about each other as well as abput the jedi and the force.
after seeing them off on tattooine, anakin decides that he would enlist in the republic armed forces despite his brother owen's protest who had just earlier gotten both of them job as apprentice moisture farmers.
so with no hesitation anakin leaves tattooine to join the war effort in the hopes of crossing paths with obiwan once again.
that's the idea i had so far....
about obiwan being a clone, i got the idea form the early script ideas of episode 4. he is the last of the perfect jedi clones illegally created by a scientist long dead or missing. being a clone a such a wildly respected jedi, many saw him as an abomination and an insult to the great man. only a few including yoda treated him kindly. for the next few years, he worked hard to earn the respect of many jedi as well as erase the stigma of his past at least to a certain degree.
"i thought i could instruct him just as well as yoda" Greatly respecting yoda and his "father" obi vowed to live up and outdo his idols which leads to poorly trained anakin.

i am currently rendering out a sample but it may take a while
pretty good so far
color key had gone a long way to allow me to replace some of the backgrounds
i also had to track the new background with the way the camera moves during the scene frame by frame. it is a horrible process since i don't have cs5 and the new rotobrush
only a few weeks left till it's back to school i have been working on a rotj project since this whole summer and i figured i showed what i have done so far
redoing the lightsaber, and enhancing or creating new background mattes
they are still work in progress
hey adywan when you get to the audio part of the production will you match the sound of the lightsaber activating once he grabs it cause at .55 the sound comes in much earlier

i mostly did it to get rid of the magneta color that was in the scene and in the whole movie and increased the brightness to make the scene look a bit more dune seanish (if that's a word)

Avatar those samples are very bleached out, too yellow shifted and over saturated.
It's certainly reduced the baseball bat lightsaber but to the detriment of everything else in the picture.

i never liked how endor looked. the scenery and colors felt so dull and uniteresting
with the help of color correction and background replacement, i think i may have given endor some life now
i also changed chewie bow laser to green to look tie it in to other source materials that depict the wookies weapons with green laser.
if you look hard enough you may notice something different try and guess what it is (it is a test to see if it can be done in other scenes)
so please some comments and criticisms on the work
after seeing the deleted scene form celebration V i decided to make luke in robe more mysterious like the deleted scene

I'm 98% sure that this isn't the full version of the scene, and it actually continues onward, with Luke giving R2 the lightsaber, then sending the droids off.
Then you'd cut to R2 and Threepio heading to Jabba's palace, and the film continues as normal from there.
do you also know the name of the soundtrack that plays in that scene

2) He's not wearing the glove (M.H. said he remembers wearing it in that scene).
are you forgetting that he has not been shot3) The dismountable lightsaber prop made especially for that scene is not use, insted the riddiculous stand in for M.H. screws with a screwdriver (apparently not actually doing anything) to convey the idea of finishing the sabre.
4) All that footage is shot prequel style (I'm pretty sure that it's the ROTS Vader costume in the Vader shots and it uses a weird video-like zoom and the whole thing just looks like a home made video to me - yes I know it is shot with a camera from a screen but I somehow don't think that is the reason it looks like it does).

I think it sucks ass and it definitely should not be put into the movie, even if they restored the actual original scene. Much like the Jabba scene in SW it was originally cut for a good reason and should be kept out.
