The result wouldn’t sound very smooth, but you could do that. If you take that approach, duplicate the frame before once and the frame after once: it will be less noticeable.

It is though – I’ve checked. The missing frames occur before the cut to the briefing room. After the wipe, watch the first fighter that clears the nose of the Mon Calamari vessel.

If you want to continue this discussion, perhaps we should be move it to the GOUT-sync thread. 😃

EDIT: By the way, the frame-count of the NTSC GOUT post-IVTC is 190799.

Did you try it? I don’t hear it at all. I don’t even think I hear it when I duplicate the frame 10 times.

But it’s about syncing to 4k83 so I guess we don’t have to move the discussion. 😃

I was not sure about the frame count so I just picked a save number. The length of the audio file won’t increase because of a blank clip with to many frames.

IIRC the frames in this release are basically a superset of the NTSC GOUT plus the PAL GOUT, so it has one more frame than the PAL GOUT and two more frames than the NTSC GOUT.

So to sync your favorite GOUT synced audio to 4k83 all you have to do is:

1. insert as a wavesource of your favorite audio track of ROTJ (that is GOUT synced) in the script below and copy it to an .avs file.
2. open the avs file in virtualdub.
3. click file > save wav

Although I don’t see how there can be 2 extra frames after frame 68663.

I have some questions about the colors. How accurate are they? I got used to harmy’s grindhouse release of ROTJ and prefer his colors. Is his to saturated? Also, the lightsabers often don’t have the bright white core I came to believe they originally had. Is this how they originally looked?

Any other gout audio you may have may be slightly out of sync after 0:47:41, if used with 4k83. It should not be noticeable though.

Foreign language tracks don’t lip sync anyway so you’d never notice it being slightly out.

In updating the audio tracks for 4k83 our audio experts actually discovered that the gout synced audio tracks are not actually properly gout synced themselves. All tracks are off sync by 2 to 3 frames for over half of the movie.

Is the gout audio + 2 or 3 frames out of sync or - 2 or 3 frames out of sync. In other words, if you mux gout audio with 4k83, is in 4 to 5 frames out of sync or 0 to 1 frames out of sync?

At 40 MB/s I doubt those are compression artifacts. If anything, they are imperfections brought out by the color correction process - these shots were brightened considerably from the original scan, and some of the shadow/color information just isn’t there. I suspect Poita’s scan will be considerably better, but until it arrives, this is as good as it gets I’m afraid.

I don’t think so.
If you convert the multichannel audio into separate wave files, you can edit them and turn them into a lossless DTS stream again.

So to sync any GOUT synced wave file to TESB Grindhouse use the script below (and replace audio.wav with the name of the wav file with the one you want to use).
When you open the script in virtualdub click ‘File > Save WAV’ to save you synced audio file. Now all you have to do is mux it.
