When I talk to my 14yo nephew about the Star Wars movies, he’s not really that big a fan and has a hard time remembering which Episode number goes by which subtitle. At one point, he asked me why I don’t just call them by their episode numbers, and I said that it wasn’t until the prequels came out that their numbers even were on the box or that Star Wars was marketed as A New Hope.

Then I showed him images of OT posters and VHS boxes to prove my point.

God those were awful posters.

It shows consistency between movies, which I’ve learned on OT.com is generally tossed out the window in favor of nostalgia (just look at the topic of this thread).

If you have a gripe with people who are nostalgic for the films they are trying desperately to preserve, why are you here??

For the fanedits. Where else is there a thriving fanedit community, let alone a SW-centric one?

STAR WARS: Episode I - THE ANCIENT LORE [Episode I Remade /Proj started: 2014] (WIP)

Yeesh that’s dark. I noticed that you didn’t redub JAr Jar, but he sound a little different. Did you make his voice deeper or something? Why? Also, it’s pretty jarring when Qui-Gon says an entire line of dialog offscreen at the end. If you want that to work, you need to at least let us see him say the end of the sentence.

The movie should have its own name to distinguish itself from the franchise as a whole.

It does…

Star Wars’ sequel is The Empire Strikes Back whose sequel is Return of the Jedi etc.

You screwed your quote. It’s me who said that, not Strafe. TBF, I’m struggling here too to quote within a quote. What’s up with Markdown today?

They’re my favorites. I love the way they all connect with stars coming out from the middle, and not repeating the same characters (though I wouldn’t’ve shoved all the protagonists into ANH’s poster, as it leaves it little for the others; Chewbacca and Jabba? That’s all we’ve got for 6?). I’m using it as the inspiration for my custom covers, using roughly (though not exactly) the same style. It shows consistency between movies, which I’ve learned on OT.com is generally tossed out the window in favor of nostalgia (just look at the topic of this thread). The original posters are not the greatest. The first one has our protagonists idealized (buff Luke, sexy Leia) in a way that seems totally at odds with the film itself. The ESB poster, is okay, I have no major gripes with it, but it could use more Lando. The RotJ poster really should’ve used a different shot of Luke. The one picked just looks…odd.

To casual/non fans, I’ve found myself saying “The Original Star Wars” to differentiate the film from the franchise. It always sounded weird to call it “A New Hope,” even though the crawl seems incomplete to me without it (probably since it was already added when I first saw it as a child).

To me it sounds weird to call it “Star Wars”. The movie should have its own name to distinguish itself from the franchise as a whole.

Even though I know what in means when someone says it, that doesn’t mean I don’t find it really annoying. When someone calls the first movie SW, it makes them look like someone stubbornly stuck in the past who is against any and all change, regardless if it’s an improvement. It sounds as stupid as arguing that the shift from black and white to color was a bad idea. A post on Jedi Council Forums says it best in that it should be called A New Hope for the same reason we call it World War 1 and not the Great War as it was originally known.

The One with the Porgs

Actually, TFA should be the one with yet another Death Star. Can’t believe people let it slide in RotJ but not TFA.

I tend to call it A New Hope. Or Ep4 or ANH I never saw it in 77. sorry was not born yet.
I know, lame excuse but it was my parents fault. 😉
I tried just calling it Star Wars at one time but I had some one say. “witch one?”
I say the first one. And they say do you mean Ep1 or E4?
So I save time on witch one. That way if I have to explain why E4 is the first and EPs 1 2 3 were made after Eps 4 5 6 I won’t be so out of breath.

See this is exactly why I’m in favor of calling it ANH. Calling it SW is just plain confusing.

we got the exploding Alderaan, but we don’t care about anybody on that planet bc we don’t know them

It would be possible to add a shot of Bail Organa watching the destruction of his home planet (maybe using a shot from the end of Episode II with alterations to make him look like in Rogue One).

Revisited already did that (with Jar Jar alongside him). No idea how, though.

What 'a Star Wars Story' / anthology / spinoff film would you like to see?

Oh, I’d love that!
Actually I’d like to see twin films- one for the Empire, one for the Rebellion.

Yes. Two films that show the same events from different perspectives.

Also, from what I’ve heard, Tales of the Jedi sounds like a better idea of what the Galaxy was like long ago than KotOR or SWToR, but I haven’t played or read any of these things, so take this with a grain of salt. I just feel like technology should be much less advanced in that era; battery pack lightsabers, hyperdrives only on capital ships, etc…

Also, one last thing. I like the recoloring in the “Fatherly Ties” scene, but BOY OH BOY, that dialogue, “Betting on races.” I’ts objectively worse than anything else said in the prequels. Yeah the virgin birth in the PT wasn’t handled well, but this is not how it should be fixed

I don’t want to be a dick, I think it’s just a really dumb sequence of dialogue

That’s not the word “objectively” should be used for. Your opinion is not a fact.

Besides, “Love won’t save you; only my new powers can do that.” is by far the worst thing said in any movie, not even just SW.

I say it somewhat facetiously, but it’s awful dialogue. What you listed was just a dumb stand-alone line said. This is supposed to be an answer to a question asking for a person, but answers with a dependent clause

And did you just imply that your statement is fact? 🤔

No, although I suppose you could interpret it as the same sort of facetious claim it is as your statement.

The Last Jedi: Official Review and Opinions Thread ** SPOILERS **
Time

So who’s the main villain now that Snoke’s dead? I made a thread about it, but it’s all glitched out. I’m guessing it was deleted for spoilers? I didn’t mention Snoke’s death in the title, but whatever. Point is Snoke’s dead, and Kylo’s neither intimidating nor completely evil. Who’s the main villain now? Someone on reddit suggested Snoke was just a puppet projection of sorts, and that the real person behind the First Order is hidden elsewhere. I guess that could work maybe?
