Definitely agree with most of those, although I wouldn't say that Anakin turned to the Dark Side "on a dime", it just felt like that because it was poorly executed.

Whatever the reason, it is what it is. Anakin may as well have said, "what the hell, why not?"

So which version offers the best Original trilogy viewing experience this or Hamys? I already have these and love them but I was just curious.

Take your pick. Harmy culled from a variety of sources, some higher quality than the GOUT. That would seem to make it a no-brainer (Harmy's simply looks better in most shots), but Mattman's upscale has a more consistent look to it. That has merit in my opinion.

Harmy's RETURN OF THE JEDI Despecialized Edition HD - V3.1

Great job, Harmy.

I have an issue with the wobbliness and blurriness of the Sarlacc pit after Jabba says "move him into position." I do hope you fix this at some point, as if you did I would consider this to be near perfect.

As it stands, this is my version of choice when watching JEDI. I'm, impressed. Very, very well done.

I noticed that too. Shaw's eyebrows after Vader's unmasking suffer from the same problem (they seem to float in the frame). I thought about mentioning it, but I figured it was the best Harmy could do.

I'm going to play devil's advocate here and say that Lucas was against colorization .....Making that speech is 100% consistent with Lucas' insistence that movie studios are completely awful. It's not as hypocritical as one might think,

You might want to research that a little more;

http://savestarwars.com/lucasspeechagainstspecialedition.html

Lucas said:

more advanced technology will be able to replace actors with "fresher faces," or alter dialogue and change the movement of the actor's lips to match. It will soon be possible to create a new "original" negative with whatever changes or alterations the copyright holder of the moment desires......This would be a great loss to our society. Our cultural history must not be allowed to be rewritten

I might also add:

Lucas said:

The copyright holders, so far, have not been completely diligent in preserving the original negatives of films they control....The public's interest is ultimately dominant over all other interests. And the proof of that is that even a copyright law only permits the creators and their estate a limited amount of time to enjoy the economic fruits of that work....Attention should be paid to the interest of those who are yet unborn, who should be able to see this generation as it saw itself, and the past generation as it saw itself.

Yup, yup. Basically, Lucas is saying: "allowing the copyright holder to alter a film at a whim is bad...unless that copyright holder is me."

My Top 10 Reasons ROTJ sucks

For Luke to sense, invisible to the audience and not demonstrated by any action or even words spoken that Darth Vader has some 'good in him' is just plain POOR FILMMAKING. There are a myriad of things Lucas (or Kasden) could have done in the screenplay to DEMONSTRATE some wavering from being totally evil. As it is, from episodes iV-V, this comes out of left field and makes no sense.

Well, the strangulation bodycount was considerably lower than before. Vader's got that going for him. ;)

Just finished the blu ray set. I wrote a blog about why ROTJ is the worst of the 6 movies.

Agree on point #10. That scene has always bothered me. Between the stilted acting, lack of logic and continuity (did Leia know ["somehow I've always known..."] that she was Luke's sister when they locked lips in ESB?), and the fact that she doesn't seem bothered at all that Vader is also her father. Definite low point for me.

Never thought much about point #1, but Kasden's draft would make for a better scene imo.

As for the rest. While I don't necessarily disagree with you, the kid in me, with rose-colored glasses firmly in place, just doesn't care. :)

Harmy's THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK Despecialized Edition HD - V2.0 - MKV & AVCHD (Released)
Time

Hey Harmy. First, I want to say thanks for all your hard work. It's such a treat to finally be able to watch the films I grew up with. I have a question regarding your color correction in ESB though. The black level seems a bit inconsistent. Most of the movie looks great. A bit of crush here and there (probably the fault of the source) but in the scenes set within the freeze chamber, both Han's freezing and Luke and Vader's fight, the black level is pumped up quite a bit. The scenes are quite washed out as a result and black is more a dull grey. Is this a source problem, deliberate choice, or am I just going crazy?
