I look forward to a correctly color-timed film with LD audio.  I'm sure an MKV will show up one of these days....

Sample with correct color timing here using the new remastered blu, looks incredible!

Looks fantastic. I knew people here had their eyes on this. A color corrected version with the original mono track would be definitive in my book. Looking forward to it.

This post in particular caught my eye.

"I can tell you this, the University of North Carolina School of the Arts has an unfaded Technicolor-process print of Star Wars, and good condition 70mm prints of Empire and Jedi. And that place is full of film students who all undoubtedly loathe what Lucas has done to the films. Get those prints to this mysterious scanner and we'd have HD editions of the original cuts of all three films by the end of the year."

I find this hard to believe, but someone should probably follow up on this before George does...

Making our own 35mm preservation--my crazy proposal
Time

I'm 19. I was exposed to Star Wars for the first time through this release in the 90s:

I watched them so many times I wore out the tapes. This couldn't have been any earlier than 1996, I was 4 years old. Out came the special editions. I hated them. Out came the prequels. Appallingly bad.

I don't think you need to be someone who watched the original film in theatres back in 1977 to understand why it is culturally significant and deserves to be preserved.

Speaking of transfers, Dragon Ball Z is getting a proper 1080P transfer from the original film!  And Lucas can't do it???
Pretty sure this is at least the second time in the last 7 or 8 years.

The last transfer was to DVD and they included the whole film frame to give it a 16:9 aspect ratio if I recall correctly.  This version is blue-ray, and will have the original broadcast 4:3 aspect ratio.  I think a bunch of fans were upset about the changes. LOL go figure.

It's pretty funny. The DVD release was cropped to 16:9 and DNR'd to hell. This blu ray release is pretty much FUNimation's apology to the fans, and looks like a pretty damn good release.

Oh George.

Coming soon!!!

In a vein similar to Harmy's restorations I have restored the film posters to the best of my abilities. They may not be 100% accurate, but they are very pleasing to the eye. I did my own take of the Definitive laser disc box set, though it is still quite different. I'm almost done with the discs, so they will be uploaded sometime in the next few days or so.

All art and images are pre 1997 material to make things more legit. The only images on the back that are not from Harmy's preservation are promotional images and what not.

In an ideal world, the original unaltered trilogy is released on blu ray, and they are in these cases. Great work!

"The People Vs. George Lucas" documentary...
Time

Finally got this on DVD a couple days ago.

I've watched it 5 times already, and I have to say I really enjoyed it. However, I don't think this movie is aimed at me, or OT.com members.

It's aimed at my parents and friends, who ask "You're getting the new Star Wars blu rays, right? You LOVE Star Wars!". When I say "No, I not picking up that crap", I now have this documentary to show them why. It does a very good job, in easy to understand terms, explaining why I'm so "anti-Lucas" and why I can't stand the special editions.
