I can’t believe it’s finally happening.

I feel like the members of this forum are more used to disappointment when it comes to the Star Wars franchise than anyone else on the planet :P

If it sucks, it sucks. Nothing to get hot about. The prequels already broke me to the point of never getting too excited for a much anticipated movie ever again.

I find this very hard to believe. Not getting my hopes up.

Didn't we hear a similar rumor out of comic con a couple of years ago that lead to nothing? I feel like, when the announcement finally does come, it will be extremely clear, probably in the form of a trailer or livestreamed press event.

Now we have youtube and smart phones that can record video at 1080p. We will all be seeing this trailer on Friday. I'm not sure what the logic is behind a limited release of a TRAILER to a handful of theatres like this in 2014.

I think Disney would realize that no one would pay 300 dollars for only 3 movies on blu ray, no matter how many features. I mean, the James Bond set was only 120 dollars and that had 23 films on it.

The first ever Blu Ray release of the theatrical Star Wars trilogy? Probably the most highly demanded Blu Ray release of all time? I'd expect $150 - $200 for all three films, at least. Should be a fantastic set, at least. Disney does a great job with these kinds of things.

A release leading up to Episode VII would be amazing.

I bought the SE trilogy on Laserdisc box set at the time around 98 for £120....uk version wasn't even ac3 sound either

 Digging around, it looks like the Definitive Collection Laserdisc set retailed for $250 USD back in 1993. That's incredible. That's before inflation, too.

I have to imagine that wasn't for mainstream audiences. Does anyone know how well it sold? Was it considered a success back then?

Since then, the hardcore Star Wars community has only grown in size. I know I'd drop $250-$300 for an original, unaltered trilogy box set done right, but would Disney actually put something out with that kind of price tag today?

It's funny. I wrote that post in support of an OUT release. People not caring about the lack of SE revisions, to me, indicates that they'd be fine with an OUT release, but I can see how my post could be taken differently.

 Disney has a unique opportunity to market the OUT if done right. "The Star Wars you grew up with" or something similar would speak to a large number of people, not just fans.

The correct answer is to release every version, Blade Runner style. That way everyone is happy.

If Blade Runner can pull it off, so can Star Wars.

Honestly don't care for much outside of the Original Trilogy. I've always wanted to read some of those Zahn books, but besides that, I'm good. Prequels don't exist to me, except as a subject for Red Letter Media videos.

I'm obviously interested in the new trilogy coming up, but I'm not about to go through another prequel-trilogy hype cycle.

I'm way too hyped for this.

If only we could create a kickstarter to purchase the necessary technology to scan this thing at 4K. We would pass the goal ($300k?) with flying colors... if we made it clear what we were doing with the thing. Of course, at that point the stormtroopers would come down hard on us.

Regardless, this is still very exciting. Here's hoping something great can still come out of this!

Okay, take this one with a grain of salt.

Supposedly, some guy with a source that called the 3D theatrical re-release has some more information about the upcoming films. This point in particular caught my eye:

The movies from what I understand will adopt the Harry Potter model, and will be aggressively brought to the forefront of popular entertainment once again with consistent installments. This is just for starters though, especially for those who hold the original trilogy in high regard, they should be happy. You can expect lovingly restored prints of the original trilogy to surface in the near future. That's a no brainer. I along with the rest of the world want those movies in their original glory. Disney are all over that, believe me.

Amid yesterday's massive announcement that Disney handed over $4.05 billion to call LucasFilm their own, the immediate predictions of such a merger's result have established a firmly forward-looking perspective. However, that keen attitude toward the “Star Wars” franchise may have overlooked some past decisions of LucasFilm's that could come back to haunt Disney, as the two industry giants now face from Fox a bit of thorny issue of rights over the film that started it all.

"Disney is the perfect place,” explained a LucasFilm associate yesterday, following their press conference. ”At Fox they just make movies. Fox doesn't have theme parks and huge brands. This is a good fit." At this stage in George Lucas' career, it's obvious his intent matches this assessment, and it also points to why Fox was never even approached when LucasFilm was set to sell. But when it comes to the inevitable Blu-ray box set after the new trilogy hits theaters starting 2015, the recently realized fact that Fox retains distribution rights to the original “Star Wars” -- as well as theatrical, nontheatrical and home video rights worldwide for the others through 2020 -- will undoubtedly pose a bit of an issue.

Word from Fox has been quiet following the sale, but in this case the company can keep its silence while they reap the benefits of laying a blow to Disney's intensive home-video rollouts. The 3D versions of 'Attack of the Clones' and 'Revenge of the Sith' will still hit theaters next fall as planned via Fox, but as far as Lucas' hopes of keeping the “Star Wars” story contained on home video, it won't be until a deal is reached between Fox and Disney that any such option can exist. Or they can just wait -- rights for the film revert back to Disney in 2020.

Still, as far as the audience is concerned, 'A New Hope' will (hopefully) remain unchanged from its most recent Blu-ray release, but in the manner of everyone else surrounding the sale, we'll keep eyes trained instead on what surprises the next near-decade holds.

Honestly, I feel like this is the best possible outcome.

Depending on how long after Jedi this takes place, maybe a Luke Jedi spirit could be played by Hamill. But I don't see Fisher or Ford coming back no matter what.
