So I have been following this thread wanting to figure this out myself and see what hardware was needed to get content off of my directv box. I would like to grab a few of the more abstract shows that I watch. Since the current standard scene releases are .mp4 and I am very happy with that quality vs file size I guess that will be my ultimate goal. I ordered the recommended HDMI splitter.
For whatever reason I have it in my head that I want an external capture card such as one of these.
Does anyone have feedback or a review of any of these? I am leaning toward the Hauppauge, seems like the most powerful. Am I limiting myself going this route instead of internal? In you opinion will I be able to accomplish what I want to do going this route? Any feedback will be greatly appreciated.
