R2D2: Unless you're asking for Star Wars stuff, that's not only against Usenet rules and/or etiquette (especially to satisfy 1 person), but it would also be unfair to people who are looking just for SW material. If you can't find what you're looking for online, there's a couple people here who can fill your specific requests by sending you discs via snail mail, usually for the cost of just postage or a very small donation, or through trading.
...........or, do as I and many others have done and get a premium account such as the one from Astraweb. The one I have is 90Gb for $25 which is very cheap!
Not sure if this is the right place to ask this, but does anyone know how to keep xnews from completely eating up all my memory? Is there another good/free program better than xnews? Any help is greatly appreciated.
Get more memory Seriously, that's the only way I've found to speed Xnews up. The only other free usenet programs I know of are BNR (Binary News Reader) which has a crappy interface and GrabIt which has a "large groups" bug. With GrabIt, any group with a lot of articles, like a.b.x or a.b.dvd just won't show the articles after updating. You either have to use binsearch.info to create an nzb or you have to update the group in chunks through GrabIt. I use binsearch right now to create an nzb file. The only problem with this is that you can't browse the group. You have to know what you're looking for in order to find anything.
I think Newsbin is a better program, but it's not free and I've had no experience with it.
Yep. First it uses ram for downloading the headers, which makes it take even more ram if you have multiple groups open, then it takes up even more the moment you start grabbing articles. I always found that I could only get articles from 1 or 2 groups at a time before I'd have to close it down and reopen it. It simply got to slow after that.

Oh no, don't say you download headers, or they'll take you for an amateur You CAN browse newsgroups with binsearch.info and yabse.com, works a lot better. I've heard Grabit is a fine program, I'm a very happy Newsleecher user myself (version 1.0).
