Darth Vader: An Icon In 34 Minutes
Nerdwriter1

The Nerdwriter is a series of video essays about art, culture, politics, philosophy and more.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y5NhHBjyJe4

Interestingly , Vader only had a total of about 34 minutes of screen time in the entire original trilogy !

A really enjoyable breakdown video, with some decent information and insights too. Thanks, Screams 😃

Star Wars Prequels - How The Original Trilogy Described Them’:-

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C2uVd8uNvUU - at Hardstone Media youtube channel. (7 minutes)

The blurb:-

‘This summary of rewriting the Star Wars Prequels now brings together what we’ve learned about the Stage, Story and Characters from the Original Trilogy, and put it together for an overview story of the prequels.’

Also from the same Hardstone Media youtube channel…

‘These videos will review how to rewrite the star wars prequel trilogy by looking at how the original trilogy described the events that occurred before it. We won’t be looking at the problems or how to fix the star wars prequel trilogy, delivered by George Lucas, rather we’ll look through what needs to be included what facts, events, characters and themes need to be included’:-

^ some good dry humour in these videos 😃

Edit…

They’ve also formulated some intriguing ideas for an Episode I re-write (more inkeeping with the Original Trilogy), which can be found…

Celebrating Grant Imahara
https://vimeo.com/470861917

Grant Masaru Imahara was born October 23, 1970 in Los Angeles, CA. He grew up in Southern California and was raised by his mother, Carolyn Imahara. As a child, he demonstrated profound curiosity in how things were made, and loved to spend hours building with Lego blocks. By age five, Carolyn recalls, Grant’s grandmother gave him a little screwdriver, “So that was the end of any complete toys, he took everything apart.” Grant first knew he wanted to be a roboticist after his mom took him to see Star Wars in 1977. He was enthralled with the heroic characters R2-D2 and C-3P0, and his attraction to the droids would prove to be an ironic foreshadowing of Grant’s destiny.

Grant would have been 50 this year.

I liked him in Star Trek Continues and Mythbusters. I was sad to hear of his passing earlier this year.

The Tragedy of Droids in Star Wars, a Pop Culture Detective video essay.

Han: Hey Lando! You kept your promise, right? Not a scratch?
Lando: Well, what’s left of her isn’t scratched. All the scratched parts got knocked off along the way.
Han (exasperated): Knocked off?!

Omnibus - Star Wars

https://youtu.be/WfU3T40IVuU

90’s special from the BBC during the lead up to the UK release of The Phantom Menace with special looks at Tunisia, Steven Spielberg touching on the Sequels, and more.

"Pleasure’s fun. It’s great, but you can’t keep it going forever; just accept the fact that it’s here and it’s gone, and maybe then again, it will come back, and you’ll get to do it again. Joy lasts forever. Pleasure is purely self-centered. It’s all about your pleasure: it’s about you. It’s a selfish, self-centered emotion, that is created by a self-centered motive of greed. Joy is compassion. Joy is giving yourself to somebody else, or something else. And it’s a kind of thing that is, in its subtlety and lowness, much more powerful than pleasure. You get hung up on pleasure; you’re doomed. If you pursue joy; you will find everlasting happiness.” - George Lucas

Star Wars: The Complete Canon Timeline (2020)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2TbykYzPxsk - 54 minute video, from the ‘Star Wars Explained’ YouTube channel

The blurb: ‘This is the entire history of the Star Wars canon as of May 4, 2020. The Star Wars films, TV shows, books, comics, video games, and short stories are all summarized into the most important moments in galactic history.’

It does a good job covering the main events of the GFFA, with a nice touch of including a link or reference to each book, game, comic or film (and now tv series) as each event is covered 👍

Star Tours (1987-2010) (with Spazz Master and The Wire) - SOME JERK WITH A CAMERA Season One

The blurb: “What happens when a Jerk, an Idiot and a Spazz team up to review the greatest defunct Tomorrowland thrill ride EVER? No, not that one. No, not that one either. I’m talking about the original STAR TOURS! Join Some Jerk With A Camera, The Wire of The Idiot’s Lantern, and SpazzMaster on a thoroughly confounding mystical journey through a galaxy far far away, but somehow right over there somewhere.”

If you’re into Disney Parks and Universal Studios, you might want to check out the rest of the series - most of the topical references are dated, but it’s pretty amusing nonetheless.

I hate the Disney Channel Live Action Universe

My thread YouTube/Vimeo/etc. finds for Original Trilogy making-ofs, documentaries, promos, etc. has several making ofs that were never released on any home media.

For example:

Michel Parbot’s “The Making of The Empire Strikes Back”:
This one’s quite good, but I don’t think it was ever broadcast. A lot of the footage was repurposed for other programs though.

Some other favourites of mine are:

BBC’s The Risk Business (Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back)

Walter Cronkite’s “Universe” Visits ILM 1980

Horizon - How To Film The Impossible
This is a great one, though it isn’t just Star Wars, it also covers Temple of Doom and 2010: The Year We Make Contact.

SP FX: Special Effects - The Empire Strikes Back
I don’t think this one was ever on any DVD’s or blu-rays. It might have been on laserdisc though.

If you scroll through the thread you should find plenty more.

Original Trilogy Documentaries/Making-Ofs (YouTube, Vimeo, etc. finds)
Beyond the OT Documentaries/Making-Ofs (YouTube, Vimeo, etc. finds)
Star Wars is Surrealism, not Science Fiction (essay)
Amazon link to my first novel; Dawn of the Karabu.

so i should say maybe the last 15 years of behind the scene stuff (web uploads, tv specials or so…)
from ep 1 - 9,solo,RO,Mando…

Ah, I see. Well, maybe you’ll find something interesting on this thread:
Beyond the OT Documentaries/Making-Ofs (YouTube, Vimeo, etc. finds)
It has playlists to all the prequel webisodes, a lot of YouTube featurettes for the Disney era movies, and ABC News documentary on sound in Star Wars, etc. Plenty of Clone Wars and Rebels stuff and a few The Mandalorian videos.
There’s also this thread:
General Star Wars Documentaries (YouTube, Vimeo, etc. finds)
Pretty much all of these documentaries are TV specials covering either an individual (like George Lucas or Mark Hamill) or focused on Star Wars as a phenomenon. Most of these were made within the last 25 years or so.
