top movie monsters

I can't believe the troll from Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone made the list; that's as bad as putting Mr. Hyde from LXG on the list. Ugh.

Princess Leia: I happen to like nice men.
Han Solo: I'm a nice man.

Tetsuo? Tetsuo?! That's a movie monster? "An unbelievable giant?" huh? what? He's a kid with supernatural powers. I know Akira is a cult classic, but the majority doesnt even know who or what tetsuo is; which tells me that idiotic children made that list up. I'm surprised King Kong even made the list!

I know that some of the others are memorable monsters--like Alien, but how does Frankenstein, the wolfman, count dracula, and Godzilla get kicked out of the top ten by The skinned werewolf, T-Rex, Shelob, and the Troll from harry potter? I demand a recount!

Tetsuo is not a monster. If they are considering animes, why not include Evangelion on the list too? Those are monsters, in a way. And how about every creature Ultraman fought?

Seems there is a thin line between "monster" and "freak".

I've seen it about 10 times. Yeah, I know, but he starts as a human, and then get his powers. A real mosnter must be born a monster, or created as one. If you have been human once, you disqualify for being a monster. You could be a freak, though (Elephant Man comes to mind).

In order to be a monster:

* Must be born a monster (godzilla) or be created as one (frankenstein monster)
* Must be evil, or do evil related things (thats why Chewbacca is not a monster, and frankenstein did some bad things)
* Must not be able to speak clearly, or at all
* If you have been human for one day in your life, you are not a monster, but a freak (Tetsuo, The Fly, Barbra Streissand)

i disagree completely.

tetsuo was created by the power he wielded, and at the end he couldnt speak very clearly.

Yes, but the bunny was cute, and only a few inches tall. Monsters must be big, and scary.

"Right. One, two, five!"
"Three sir."
"Three!"

monsters must not be big... they just need to be deformed or different from us... they must deviate from "normal" behaviour.

The Fly and Wolfman were once human, and are still 2 of the most memorable monsters ever.

My monster theory:

1. A monster must be scary and/or abnormal looking.

My theory of the Top Ten monster list from this thread:

1. Its unlikely that they surveyed a large amount of various people of different ages and backgrounds. It also unlikely that they surveyed the majority of the public; for if they did they would have a completely different list that wouldnt consist of The Skinned Werewolf, Shelob, The Troll, T-Rex, The Thing, and Tetsuo. The only people that would give those kind of answers are idiots. If this list was an official and honest one it would look something like this 1. King Kong, 2. Godzilla, 3. Frankenstein, 4. Count Dracula, 5. The Wolfman, 6. The Creature from the Black Lagoon, 7. The Blob, 8. The Alien, 9. Zombies from Night Of the Living Dead, and 10. The Mummy (no, not the remake).

That's a more accurate list my friends. If the magazine would've bothered to consider movie monsters from all years and not just the ones from recent movies, then they would've came up with a similar list.

(And the only reason why King Kong made the list is because Peter Jackson is directing the remake, so naturally, all the fanboys had to rush to his side)

The Crites from the original Critters. I dug 'em.

And I take the Gremlins from Spielberg's original flick. But do they fit the regulations? I know they spawn from Mogwai, but it's the Mogwai that are good and the Gremlins are bad. Technically, it could be argued that the Gremlins are born bad since they do hatch from the eggs. What do you all think?

The Critters are sorta cute, anyone looking forward to the new sequels?

Mogwai means evil-devil-ghost-monster in Chinese, and weren’t some of the Gremlins okay in the 2nd one? Y'know. like the smart articulate one.

Anybody see the Tetsuo: Iron Man live-action cg horror film? Now that's freaky.
The original Star Wars trilogy: Our cultural history deserves to be preserved and should be available to the public like all great works of art!

Crites and Gremlins are memorable monsters, but I dont think they're as memorable as say King Kong or Frankenstein.

And I think they're both too funny to be in the list.

true, gremlins should be there.
