It’s cool and all, but if that were in the movie it would need to be followed up on. I don’t think it’d fit into the movie as it is.

I was just thinking it follows up nicely with Luke on Ahch-To and him showing up to help Rey on Exegol and then later being on Tatooine.

Probably won’t work on this edit but could be interesting if someone did something where Luke force projects Han Solo’s memory to Ben in order to redeem him and pushing him todo the right thing.

That might be perfect when Rey is looking at the stars and we hear the voices. Luke is rallying the troops to fight Papa Palps.

Oh, yeah, that could be great. Maybe john could also include some other jedi around luke like mace or qui gon (all the voices, in the scene only kenobi, anakin and luke of course, but at the moment luke calls the troops everyone could show up, maybe even leia, i think it would be awesome) also other oportunity is put there in the moment ben dies, so luke could “receive” his spirit and so ben can appear as a force ghost in the end scene.

Has anyone gone back and added foreshadowing for Palpatine in Episode 7 & 8 yet?

Poppasketti did for TLJ, and I borrowed some of what he did. For TFA:R Sir Ridley added a subtle Emperor’s Theme as we see the Vader helmet and I added Palptine speaking during Rey’s vision.

And even if jonh did want to add more force ghosts, I’d stick with the four we have. Feels right, and it’s the only Force ghosts we’ve seen in the saga.

Well done. I will disengage self-destruct initiative.

Wow cool, i’m going to check them out.

I watched your TROS edit last night, i had seen a version of ben & the ghost scenes done before by someone but they weren’t up to the par with the versions in your version of TROS & i was afraid they wouldn’t fit, but the versions you had were beautiful. Every decision you made improves the movie so much.
I loved listening to the commentary track too.

I agree, I don’t think we need more ghosts that what we’ve seen; would feel a bit odd.

This probably belongs in the ideas thread for another edit for sorts, but interested to see what you guys think of this.

Riffing on this idea a bit,

It would be really great to have Luke call out to Leia as a final comfort in some form, just prior to her sacrifice. It could be placed somewhere between the headphone-drop and Maz’s exposition-drop? (You might even be able to replace the Maz-speaks-to-the-audience moment with this in it’s place?)

Maybe even just a simple audio-only line from Luke, in the vein of: “Leia, it’s time…” to vaguely imply that Leia calling out to Ben in such a way was always “planned” by Leia and Luke’s spirit post-TLJ, but only as an absolute last resort to save Ben. I believe a similar idea (Luke’s spirit communing with Leia post-TLJ) is lightly mentioned and explored in the TROS novelisation?

With Leia (somewhat) directly acknowledging the consequences of what she’s about to do, her death and resulting sacrifice would play out as being more explicitly deliberate to the audience, heightening the overall emotional drive of the moment. It would also better clarify that Leia’s DSII “Ben” projection is purely a “break-glass-in-the-event-of” force feat for her, performed only because up to that point absolutely all else had failed in bringing her son back.

If nothing else, this small addition would give us as close to an on-screen reunion of the OT trio (at least in the ST era) as we’ll ever get. The core idea being that it ultimately takes the combined power of Luke, Leia and (Leia’s force-memory/projection of) Han all in rapid succession to finally and completely redeem Ben Solo.

Just spitballing though, this might be way too convoluted to fully sell on-screen without it all being a bit too jarring or “edity”… but with the tasteful usage of Jonh’s excellent footage, just maybe…?

Those are both cool ideas. I really like that visual jonh made of Luke floating in space, like a literal sky walker.

Back when the movie first came out, I also liked the idea that Luke was involved in Han appearing to Ben, but I think I prefer it being ambiguous as it is in the film.

I think Leia projecting Han makes the most sense, actually gives her a reason to die kind of like Luke in TLJ rather than just saying Ben’s name you know

I always thought Leia died of old age or something.

The novelization strongly implies that she had been using the force to extend her life since being injured on the Raddus… even though that’s technically a dark-side ability, another reason why it makes more sense for her to have a purple lightsaber.

You’ve got to ask yourself one question: “Am I making Carrie Fisher’s ghost proud?”

Had that exact same idea for the force world clip last night, I’m sure someone could do it better but it would definitely be cool to see something like this.

I actually really like this, good work!

And I thought it was pretty clear in the original film that Leia used Force projection to send the vision of Kylo’s memory of Han to him- she has Han’s medal in her hand when she does it, and then she dies from the effort. Plus Maz says that “to reach her son now will take all the strength she has left”.

If a Fortress Vader shot is to be implemented, I make a request to whomever works on the shot to attempt to make the castle appear to be more of a desolate ruin than the previous concepts. Maybe make it seem as though one of the two spires has broken off? After all, it is supposed to be in ruins and why wouldn’t it be? It should be noted that the Mustafarians were not happy about Vader building his castle on their planet, to say the last.

Apologies for being a stickler for the extended universe canon.

I’ve never been a great fan of abilities being categorised either as darkside or lightside, I prefer to think that both dark and light are moral interpretations of the same thing.

So lightning is ‘darkside’ not because it’s on the darkside powers level up path, but because it directly harms and tortures people. Whereas a mind trick is ‘lightside’ because it’s an alternative path than violence.

Similarly, ‘preserving those we love from death’ is darkside insofar as it’s an act of fear of loss, an intervention against the natural order of things. When baby yoda used it, I put it down to his naivete, but when Rey did, it felt like an attempt to make force healing less inherently dark, which I didn’t like.

These seem like two contradicting statements. You say you don’t like powers to be inherently light or dark, but you do want healing to be inherently dark?

I think healing as seen in TROS is not a dark side action due to it requiring self-sacrifice (giving your life force to someone else). Ben could have been seen as fearing the loss of Rey when he healed her, but he knowingly sacrificed himself to do so, proving that it was really about saving her and not about getting what he wanted. Thus, this version of healing requires an inherent selflessness, and it doesn’t disturb the natural order of the living force due to being a net-even trade rather than rejecting death entirely.

Contrast this to, hypothetically, if Vader had been given the opportunity to try to save Padme in RotS. He would not have been willing to give up his own life to save hers. Padme was a possession he feared to lose, but he nearly killed her in the first place because he feared losing his own power more. If he had somehow found a way to preserve her, it would be through a different darker means.

There’s also a possibility of using films Sebastian Shaw was in prior to ROTJ for the force ghost scene.

Yeah, what I said was contradictory. What I meant was that I prefer only the application of the (neutral) force to be morally light or dark, but that healing, i.e. interfering with natural forces like life and death, is morally dark. Though Neerb’s explanation works nicely with that, because with sacrifice of one’s life force to heal, natural balance is preserved.

Jonh tried using photos of Sebastian Shaw (even attempting to remove the makeup from his face in BTS photos) but I guess it just didn’t work out to his liking. 😕

Here is what to do. Do a photo merge of Hayden and Shaw, use that photo for fakeapp. Apply to Anakin ghost. Boom. The creeptastic edition. What could possibly go wrong! 😉
