There’s nothing wrong with having healthy skepticism about something upcoming. If someone’s been disappointed with most recent Star Wars stuff, they have plenty of valid reasons to be concerned about what will come next. Especially because there are tons of ways this series could damage the Canon.

I’m guessing you didn’t watch the video, I’ve been critical of things based on the trailers and story premise myself but this is about something specific.

Yeah, I hadn’t gotten to watch the video yet. I just watched it now, and I think he’s glossing over what people’s concerns actually are and assuming the worst of people. There’s more to that leak than what he mentioned. I for one am worried that they’re going to have Reva or one of the other Inquisitors actually find Luke and come close to getting him. Which wouldn’t make sense with Luke’s ignorance in ANH. And if the only thing that narrowly saves Luke is Reva turning good at the last minute, then that puts Obi-Wan in an incompetent light.

That’s interesting, I hadn’t heard any specifics about the leak and based on the trailers I was worried that the Inquisitors would find Luke’s location, which doesn’t make sense. Of course I’ll have to see how it plays out in the series, right now I have faith that Deborah Chow didn’t want to tread on the original trilogy or canon continuity as she’s said that a few times.

I don’t think the video was made in bad faith though. You’re the first person I’ve seen actually say they’re worried about this, and there really are a TON of people online complaining about Reva taking the spotlight away from Obi-wan and Vader before the series is even released yet.

Yeah, I’m not super pumped about this leak either. SPOILERS BELOW

Apparently, the new inquisitor Reva is actually supposed to find Luke while Obi-Wan is busy fighting Vader. When Obi-Wan returns to Tatooine after the battle, he finds Reva standing over Luke, saber drawn. He then gives a big speech about how Reva has been manipulated by the dark side her entire life, and there’s still time for her to change. Because of that, she decides not to kill Luke and leaves. When she returns to Vader, she tells him that she killed Obi-Wan, but Vader sees through her BS and kills her.

Personally, I don’t like it at all. It feels like it completely ruins Luke’s character in ANH if he was already exposed to lightsabers and Jedi 10 years before his hero’s journey began. Luke wouldn’t be mesmerized by his father’s lightsaber, he would just say “Isn’t that the kind of weapon that evil Imperial lady tried to kill me with?” And I don’t know if I’m a big fan of them including yet another “redemption equals death” moment, especially given how similar this one feels to the ending of Jedi Fallen Order.

Wouldn’t Ben just make Luke forget using the old Jedi mind trick of amnesia?

They could definitely do that. I think it would be a copout, but if the leak is what happens, and it’s a choice between that and not doing that, then fine.

We already got 2 Disney prequels ruining many things in term of continuity (Rogue One not making much sense and Rebels keeping Ahsoka alive for the entire OT story), so my guess is that they are going to fuck it up again…

In fairness, we don’t yet have an explanation for what Ahsoka will have been doing during the OT. Maybe there isn’t one, but hopefully it’ll be touched on at some point.

We do though.

Rebels spoiler:

She was trapped on Malachor without a ship. And considering the fact that she left the Order during the Clone Wars, her surviving into the OT era doesn’t contradict Yoda’s statement that Luke is the last of the Jedi. Ezra on the other hand…

I’m actually quite optimistic that this show will heal the breach between episodes 3 and 4. When I used to watch the 6 films in order, it never really felt like the OT was in the same universe as the PT (with the possible exception of RoTJ which does feel rather prequel-like). In this instance the actors are the right age to match their counterparts in ep 4, and the aesthetic mix of prequel-ness and OT-ness should make the transition to the OT much smoother. Plus I’m assuming the strengthening of the relationships between Obi Wan and Owen combined with some attention to known quotes (“Obi Wan once thought as you do” for instance) will make the saga more cohesive. Here’s hoping…

It’s nice to see that the ROTS suit still fits Hayden and it’s been handled well.

Unpopular opinion: the ROTS suit is my second-favorite Vader design, behind the '77 suit.

Author

It’s funny that Vader and Reva have their lightsabers on, but Kenobi has his on his belt.

Author

Yeah the whole suit seems to fit him a lot better than the ROTS one which felt baggy.

Hayden probably got more weight in the past 15 years to fit into the costume more: he looks very good! I never had any issues with ROTS suit because it was “Vader: hour one” kinda vibe, and the 20 years gap to ANH can explain a few changes.

I also note on the marketing material that Reva is always in the center. I have a very bad feeling about this character.

Why? She’s not even on the official poster. This is the Obi-wan Kenobi series, after all.

The ROTS one is actually my fav.

The new Darth Vader suit looks superb. I can’t wait to see it in action.

Because it’s obvious they’re gonna do another stupid, generic, cliche imperial redemption arc like almost everything else. They did it in Rebels, Battlefront 2, Squadrons, and Fallen Order. It’s getting annoying.

It’s like Disney doesn’t realize that part of the reason Vader is so iconic, unique, and great of a character is because his redemption. It was surprising. It was new and interesting to have a villain turn good. You shouldn’t do it for every freakin’ villain.

I don’t get why they created her. If you’re throwing in new inquisitors at least give them interesting designs or something. Introduce some new cool aliens instead of having every main character be human. Or how about just having it be about Obi-Wan and Vader? No need for a boring predictable inquisitor redemption arc.

My Star Wars Fan-Edits

I was mildly interested when this was all first announced. Ewan is the perfect age for this now. Also, not being familiar with the prequels, I would be going in fresh and with nothing to reconcile story-wise. As more has come out, however, I realize this isn’t for me. Not personally, nor am I the target audience. This is clearly for prequel fans - and that’s fantastic, by the way. Other than Bad Batch (which I really like), most Disney era Star Wars has been backward-looking. Good for me, bad for the TFN faction.

I figured I’d probably pass on this, but after seeing something in Bendu’s video discussion above, I’m certain of it.
This;

Here we go with that idiotic behind-the-back sabre twirling. I guess it’s supposed to be the cool move because it was all over the prequels, but I can’t help but laugh at how ridiculous it is. Every person who did that - placed their weapon behind their back - would be slaughtered instantly. Too bad Disney is carrying it over from Lucas.

Good luck with the series. It is my sincere hope that whoever is looking forward to it finds it to be just as fulfilling as the first season of The Mandalorian was for me.

It’s true it looks more like a sequel to the prequels than a prequel to the OT. So was Rogue one. So was the Bad Batch, so it’s surprising you enjoyed it that much.

I mean, it is ultimately just one choreography issue. I respect your decision not to watch the series though, I’m just surprised you’d make that decision based on a lightsaber spin.

(Mind you, it’s definitely indicative of a more exaggerated prequel-esque style of choreography, I think it was Hayden Christensen who mentioned that the duels are more akin to prequels fights than OT ones)

Totally agree with all that you said. I respect Lucas’ opinions whan he said that, for him, the story through 1-6 is cohesive, but I don’t think so. For me the transition between III and IV is really hard, and I never truly saw 1-6 as a saga. I always felt that there was a missing piece between these movies.
