The Clone Wars (2008 animated tv series) - a general discussion thread — Page 4

Last night's episode was very good.

It's probably the 5 year-old in me, but I LOVE seeing the Y-Wings in action!

You know of the rebellion against the Empire?

Y-Wings have long been my favorite rebel ships.

The chairs the clones were sitting on in the briefing session look like the ones used on the Death Star. ;)

Yeah but i thought the Y-wing was not introduced until the batlle of Yavin.  Oops Lucas shits all over continuity again, lol.

I believe these are supposed to be Y-wings in their original configuration. Not prototypes.

One factoid that's been around since the 70's, was that the rebels used a lot of old ships, and modify the heck out of them to keep them running. The streamlined fuselage was removed for ease of maintenance.

This is one reason a lot of us old coots thought we would be seeing shiny new X-Wings in the prequels. ;)

Exactly. It is amazing it took them this long to do it.

Maybe it was because I was younger then, but I always found the OT ships fascinating. But the only PT ship to ever be of any interest to me was the Naboo fighter. Not sure why, but I always kind of liked that one. Kind of funny how we all made such a connection with the Falcon in the OT, but there was nothing like that in the PT. No special ship they flew around in and cared if it got damaged or not, everything was extremely expendable.

It is also kind of silly that we don't see a bunch of the PT ships flying around in the OT, Obviously we still see people driving around in twenty year old cars today. But nothing in the PT even resembles sleeker versions of ships seen in the OT. It honestly feels like two different universes. I really thought we'd be seeing Y-Wings and X-Wings or something a lot like them in the PT.

so many cool things..

lots of battles

of course, lots of general grievious..

and more people dying, explosions, and death.

yeah, and i like how in the first few minutes,

the empire talks about killing off 60000 people.

so, thats what they do in kids show nowadays? , HA HA, LOL..............

Actually yes, that is what kids show do now and, days. Power Rangers a kids show. Has masters dying, villians talking about killing the entire planet, explosions, fights, draining life from others to use for machines, killing of monsters in every episode pretty much, to top it off it's live action to boot. CGI is mostly only used for special attacks or, Zord formations/attacks. The vast majority of the show is live action. With all this said it is a kids show.

Anakin in the cartoon is pretty consitant with how annoying he was in the prequels.  and now he has a bratty whiny padawan to give his emo jerk character a run for his money.

Plus Padme in the movie was just as boring as Natalie Portmans delivery of dialogue.  And in this show and the movie the dialogue is on par if not more cringe inducing that the prequels.  Hey at least Matt Lanter is as wooden and boring as hayden is a bit less grating on the nerves and annoying.  Lets all give him an oscar, lol.

Plus this cartoon makes an average meh game and storyline like the force unleashed the epic of our times, lol.

Guess i will just pretend this does not exist and sit back and watch the oot.  Kind of like what i mostly do with that phantom plot movie and its sequels.

It would be like hearing obi wan say in a new hope "Before the Special Editions, before the gout".  Instead of "before the dark times, before the empire".

One of the long rumored changes to the next incarnation of the OT was adding some Naboo fighters to the Rebel fleet scenes.

if they added naboo fighters to star wars run on the death star trench i would take my dvds and literally Burn them.

What i wanted to do with the 2004 cut of return of the jedi.  Hayden the stalker in the ewok village as a ghost instead of shaw, and jar jar added to the celebration scene.  I watched that edit once and have purged it as far as i can from my memory but always remember it in time to bash the changes.

Plus cgi has no place in the oot except for those all experimental vector graphics.

The vehicles in the prequels do not look real or believable and don't have the carbon scoring and lived in look.  They all except for the naboo starfighters in episode 1 look like a computer graphic and extra fake.  Even the naboo fighters looks much never and sleeker than the oot.

No i do not like John Knolls added cgi fighters to star wars trench run.  Those cgi effects look far more dated today than even the old motion control work does.  It looks like a work in progress and something that should not be in the film at all.  That is what i hate about the special editions. a testing ground for the shitty prequels while ruining my favorite movies.

I used to be able to escape the bad prequels and special editions in the EU but Lucas got his claws on that as well and ruined it to fit his prequel vision.

I am happy now that he never got the rights to flash gordon because he would have ruined it in the same way he ruined indiana jones and star wars.  As he would likely ruin willow if he made a sequel to the first one.

I would have liked to see his original prequel concept he developed with Gary Kurtz and not that bullshit he started on Nov 1, 1994 known Then as THE BEGINNING.

The prequels could have been  really good if he gave someone else that old general outline and the oot films to watch to match it to.  You know like He could have hired real screenwriters and diirectors to make them into the super fucking Epic films we all expected after waiting twenty years.

Of course you can. Nobody told you you couldn't. Not sure why you feel the need to ask for permission.

I guess you were taking a dig at all the negative feeling toward this show, but really the hater and the lover seem to be pretty equal in number.

My honest opinion on the show: I hated the movie idea from the beginning, but after the first tailer for the actual series was released, I thought it looked kind of cool, then I watched the first couple of episodes and felt it was incredibly childish. Since everyone here was talking about how great the third episode was, I decided to go ahead and check it out, and again, it was obviously written for little kids. Kind of funny that one is still in disput. On top of that, I was incredibly annoyed with all the Star Wars references it had. Every couple of lines of dialogue there is an OT quote. "I've got a bad feeling about this" instead of being a reference found once within each movie, has now become over used to the point of annoyance. I seriously wonder if they are actually going to squeeze that line out at least once in every episode. As I said before, if I was a kid I would probably love it.

Not so much a dig at the haters, but the haters who continue to chime in on something they continually state they don't care for. The haters who must squirm in their seats for 22 minutes just to find more ammunition to shoot it down.

I agree with your [C3PX] points, the clone wars movie was certainly a wrong foot to get off on for sure. I do have a slight interest in the series, In which case I'll continue to check it out. I think I'm in a vast minority here that actually likes the animation style.

I never expected the show to be the second coming of Jesus. I never expected it to be much at all, so it doesn't fail to meet any high standards for me.

American Animation is most certainly made for children because in the u.s.a. the idea is animation is childish.

This animation is not made in the u.s.a. like the genddy series but in singapore via outsourcing so it takes away american jobs.

I am an anime fan and prefer japan animation anyways so i thought i'd like this series because Lucas said it was a star wars anime.  Instead it looks like thunderbirds in cgi instead of with puppets.

Japan animation  can be just as annoyingly childish as american animation but they also have adult stuff like Akira and Ghost in the Shell which america wishes it had made.

Maybe Titan A.E. and Iron Giant as well as the Pixar films are up their in quality with some of the japan creators if not the Miyazakis.  Its not that i hate the disney type of animation i just hate musicals and everything they make has a dumb song in it.  The one exception is probably fantasia since it uses existing classical music.

I'll admit i hated the genddy style too at least at first.  But those cartoons came closer to the feel of the oot than the prequels, lucas had no hand in them.  I would much prefer a third season of the genddy series or a traditional animated oot era or new republic era cartoon with Luke Skywalker and Han Solo.

Yes the fan made trailer is better than this whole series because it has mara jade and Luke Skywalker, princess leia and han solo in it.  I hate anakin skywalker in the prequels with a passion.  Funny that i liked ewans portrayal of obi wan but hated hayden christensen.  Also funny that i am one of the ones who felt jake lloyd did an okay job in episode 1.

Hayden sucks as an actor i saw him in jumper that dude is another canadian who could not act his way out of a wet paper bag in the middle of a blizzard.

The other show Filoni Worked on had better writing and better voice acting even if it was a kids show.  It was called Avatar the last airbender and makes clone wars look like a joke.  Even for a Dragon Ball and Naruto knockoff that says something.

Every next project Lucasfilm puts out is lower in quality than the last ones they did.  I have no problem believing Indiana Jones V will be the single biggest joke in cinema history.  It will make the pig in a poke part 4 look like the greatest film ever made.  The live action tv series will make the Phantom Menace look like Citezen Kane or Casablanca, lol.

It is time for Indiana Jones to hang up his hat, and the jedi to stow away their Lightsabers for good.  Lucas should not be allowed near another video game, movie, book or anything with star wars or indy in it.  He should he banned for Life.  He ruins everything he touches including the negatives of the oot.

Geez, how can anyone possibly hate musicals, sky?!  Eh, whatever.  You're right that Avatar kicks ass, though.

As for this cartoon.  I haven't seen it.  I saw a few commercials for both the movie and the series.  Some of the commercials are pretty good.  Honestly, I'm never home when the show is playing, and I really don't even remember when it's on.  This thread is giving me the slightest desire to check it out, just to see what everyone's talking about, but, honestly, not enough to go to any trouble to find it.  If I happen to catch it on the tube, I'll probably keep on it just so I can have an opinion.  Otherwise, I'm completely meh about this whole thing, sorry to say.

I suppose that for me, it comes right down to the fact that the Clone Wars was really cool... as an idea.  It imbued this sense of mystery and history when Ben first mentioned it in Star Wars.  But I honestly got my fill from what I saw of it in the prequels.  And just maybe two television series and a movie about it are overkill.  Geez, I suppose that came out a bit more "hater"ish than I expected it to.  Like I said, I'm not a hater (because I haven't seen it), I'm just mostly apathetic.

I sincerly doubt that if this didn't share the name "Star Wars" you'd be defending it as much.

First two episodes of Power Rangers Time Force

First two episodes of Power Rangers Jungle Fury(the current season)

This Clone Wars series seems to be on par with both of those. Besides this you're the one that asked if that's what kids shows do. Death, destruction, the answer is yes. Anyways, I gave the latest episode a chance. It was better then the first two episodes. I still think of it as a kids show though. Beowolf is adult animation, Death Note is adult animation. This is a kids show. The good thing that'll come out of this series is that it'll give fan editors plenty of fight footage to work with.

So, I was reading the Star Wars novelization, and during the opening attack on the Tantive IV, it describes a Stormtrooper being shot and a resulting mess of blood and shattered bone.

Now I am not obsessed with violent imagery or anything like that, but how cool would it be if they made a Star Wars anime, maybe focusing on the Empire vs. the Rebellion, that actually was made for adults and was not afraid to show a few drops of blood every now and then and other more adult themes. See, I'd watch that show lovingly every single week it aired, it would be a dream come true. A Star Wars cartoon that is targeted at people who have been fans since childhood, that would be cool. That show could be very popular, and of course LFL has the money to do it, if it ends up not being as successful they could just cancel the thing rather than making 10 years worth of episodes before the pilot even airs/is turned into a theatrical feature film. There are plenty of crappy shows that are given a chance on the airwaves, but something like this will never happen.

i have to admit, when all is said and done..

there will be some really cool edits of these episodes to make

some great stories... there's a lot more to tell..

i just want to know why all you people that are living in the past,

skyjedi, etc, etc....   don't just stay there?

really, you seem to have a lot of trouble ignoring things that don't

fit in your 'reality'...

there's a lot of star wars fans, that like the story, and always want more,

be it books , audiotapes, videos, movies, cartoons, you name it....

fine, it all really died out in 1983 with 'return of the jedi'....but even then

there were books out, and after that tv shows, and droids, ewoks shows, etc..

i'm pretty sure you ignored those..

well, for fans of 'Star Wars', we WANT MORE,  first the SE trilogy,

and then the prequels filled that need,

and after that, we wanted more, and now The Clone Wars is filling that too..

and just wait until the 'live action' series starts..

yeah fine, its not as great as the original, nothing ever was as good as 'Star Wars'

the original movie in 1977...................... so? does that mean we should have given

up back then, and been happy? yeah, the Star Wars Legacy site is pretty much that,

the only thing that exists there is the 1977 version, and the one he's making, and

guess how much discussion goes on there?

i'm glad the Star Wars Legacy is still going on, no- i don't read all the books, i lost

track a long time ago, and i'm getting lazy, so i watch the new movies, and now the

TV shows.......................... i don't need fanedits, or projects to keep me busy, there's

too much darn original stuff to still see....

i hope Lucas keeps making Star Wars related movies/tv shows and other creative

works until the end of time....(or as long as i'm still around)..

may the force be with you.....................always..
