You might not. And I certainly wouldn't. BUT - there were plenty of people willing to drop over $1000 - $1500 on XBOX 360 on ebay. It will be interesting to see if the Wii will reclaim the gaming crown for Nintendo. But didn't people say that when Gamecube was released. I'd be interested in seeing the Wii's capabilities on an HDTV. Admittedly, I haven't checked out any of the specs on it.

Unforunately, this is where Nintendo's recent arrogance/idiocy comes into play (note: I am, and have been loyal to Nintendo and want a Wii). They apparently think HD isn't important to gaming, and don't plan to incorporate it into the Wii. Remind anyone of their opinion of online gaming when the GC came out?

Win, it's not that they don't think it is important. It is just a lot cheapter to go without it.

In the Wii conference, the dude mentioned that you would be getting "more fun for less money".

I sure hope he's not lying, because that sounds nice!

Xbox 360 games can't expect the HDD to be there either.

I got a 360 on day one, so I will be picking up Halo 3 when It comes out. And I will definately be getting a Wii and LoZ:TP on day one as well.

I think that the PS3 is boned now. The price tag will mitigate a lot of shortages, and will drastically cut into the eBay speculation market. The only thing left for the PS3 now to the brand name. Everything else has been done on another console, and better implemented.

I think that the PS3 will be mildly successful and break even, Sony will recoup their losses, and lick their wounds and try for a smaller market the next generation. You might see a lot of third party developers jump ship if the PS3 doesn't do as well.

Doesn't the PS3 have much better graphics than the 360 though?

I know HD doesn't matter to me just like online gaming didn't matter to me last generation (and still doesn't). Like what was said earlier in the thread, they're all just gimmicks. Did the PS2 need a DVD player? No. It's a video game machine. Did you see a VCR on the NES? Not to say it wasn't cool, but it was just a bells and whistles selling point. Nintendo is just doing what it exists to do: make games.

Well... I am not so sure if a DVD player, or a CD player, is merely a gimmick. I mean, you've got the disc reader right there, so why not use it for films as well? But it's not something I would care when deciding which console to buy.

Well, yeah, I mean obviously it's not as much of a stretch as a random VCR stuck onto an NES, but it has nothing to do with playing their games, so it is a bit superfluous. I'm not saying it's bad, just superfluous.

If the NES used VHS tapes to store its games, (apart from being VERY weird) don't you think it could play videos as well?

Well, yeah, but it also costs extra to implement a DVD player into the device. That's why Nintendo is able to sell the GC for $100 even though it hasn't been out as long as the PS2.

As for HD, it doesn't really matter to me either. I don't have an HDTV, and my family didn't have a DVD player until 2002.

I believe they are quite a bit better from the looks of the PS3 launch games. BUT remember that the 360 had an emmensely fast development cycle whereas Sony is playing it safe.

I don't think it is that much of a difference that it will severly give Microsoft a disadvantage. Afterall, the PS2 is the weakest system of its generation and it soled the best. I'd say the difference is comparable to the difference between PS2 and Gamecube.

I see what you're saying. I'm pretty sure I'm getting the Wii when it comes out (if it's not too expensive that is). The Xbox360 isn't that exciting to me, but I've always been a hardcore PS fan so I may get a PS3 eventually. At least when it's not $500....

From all reports, it seems that Nintendo really cleaned up at E3, and apparently Sony was a bit of a disappointment. The 360's second-tier lineup is meant to be pretty impressive as well, which probably not helping Sony any. I can see them getting by on brand name even this time around, though - all they had to do was change the '2' to a '3' really.

[rant]I mean, I think about how many ridiculous mistakes Sony made in this generation and they still 'won' as far as I'm concerned. Come on, the machine was as ugly as sin (looked like it was slapped together at the last minute), only two controller ports (four should have been an industry standard from N64 onwards), 3 launch games that were incredibly crap (when will we finally experience an organised, strong launch?), and don't even get me started on the controller itself. No improvements whatsoever over the original Dual Shock as far as I'm concerned - a d-pad that still sucks - four buttons on the front with four shoulder triggers?! Take two off the shoulders and put them on the front dammit so that I can play Street Fighter again! I swear, every console company should commission Sega to design their controllers, especially their d-pads (there hasn't been a good one since the Saturn). So yeah, I considered the PS2 to be a big step back in gaming and somehow, they still managed to sell more than everyone else. [/rant]

I didn't even watch 20 minutes of the SONY press conference. After seeing the Nintendo conference, SONY seemed boring.
