Perhaps it would be possible to use MKV Merge / Toolnix to generate a new container with the correct frame rate?

We always like to credit our Group on our releases, if we are involved extensively with them, hence the introductions and thanks.

Is there a term for third person as used for a group rather than an individual?

I only ask because I asked in April, and got

No, there will not be an intro to the main movie. There will be some trailers as an extra.

Feel free to add whatever intro’s and other parts to it, if you prefer that.

Team Negative1

Again, I’m all for it, it doesn’t take anything away from the movie. I was just curious.

There was talk of making it more like a ‘Theatrical’ Experience, with the movie theater bumpers, and promos, along with Introductory movie trailers.

That was not the intent, obviously, we wanted to have our own introduction, which you are free to remove as long as we are credited for using in your own project.

This release is fantastic! Thanks so much TN1. I’m really digging the colors, especially the interior of the Falcon and the Death Star. During the Death Star escape sequence, that last TIE fighter explosion looks wonderful. People’s skin tones look realistic. The lightsabers look excellent. The detail on the rocks and landscape in the scene on Tatooine when Sandpeople attack all appear quite crisp. The contrast doesn’t look overly modernized like the blu-ray transfer. The frame looks a little horizontally squeezed compared to other releases, though.

The Throne Room scene here is quite likely most brilliant I’ve ever seen it.

Second viewing was A/B with Harmy’s 2.5 running two instances of VLC ouput to the television via HDMI. Really got me wondering how gratifying it’d be to make my own fanedit now. I may well do away with the 2006 disc.

Just wanted to jump on here and say congratulations to team negative1 and all those involved in this project. I downloaded it yesterday and it looks absolutely superb! Better than I could have possibly imagined given the source materials you guys had to work with.

First and foremost, congratulations and thank you very very much to Team Negative1 and everyone else involved in this preservation. It truely is a remarkable achievement. When I first heard of this project, I would never have expected that the final result/quality would be anywhere near what you’ve put out. Most amazing! Somehow, I wish your preservation would be the official Bluray instead of the mediocre shit that Lucas released.

I haven’t had a chance to watch to whole movie yet, but I’d still like to suggest two possible improvements for the upcoming V1.5 release.

  1. Please lower the volume of the intro you added a bit, it’s considerably louder that the actual movie😉
  2. In my opinion, a total size of about 25GB is sufficient for a 1080p encode at a very good quality (just compare it to encodes of other movies available on various file sharing sites), if the encoding settings were to be somewhat enhanced compared to your V1.0. As you’re aiming for a final file size, 2pass encoding fits the purpose much better than CRF. Additionally, some other settings might need adjustments. Overall, the settings suggested at the official x264 website (see link below) are quite a good starting point. The one thing I would change though is --tune grain instead of --tune film for obvious reasons. Any other possible, manual change of the encoding settings is just fine-tuning in my point of view. With these settings, the encoding quality will be quite a bit better and fine details as well as grain will be be preserved much better! BTW, I helped Harmy with his encodes of the Despecialized Edition😃

I hate to sound whiny, and I hate that my first post on this site is a complaint, but if you really want the public to have access to this–as well you should, as it is of great historical significance–SOMEONE should upload it to a public torrent tracker. 99% of the public–myself included–has no access to a private tracker and no way of obtaining an invite, no understanding of or access to usenet, and no time or bandwidth or premium account needed to download a massive amount of large files from ulozto. As of now practically the only people who even know this project exists, let alone have means of obtaining a copy, are the most hardcore fans and internet users. I understand you may be trying to avoid legal issues, and I kind of understand uploading it by these means first (though Harmy, let me say I really love your work–which I was only able to obtain because thankfully someone uploaded it to a public tracker–but if you’re going to broadcast on Facebook that you’re uploading it to ulozto you might as well just upload it to a public torrent site to make life easier for everyone) but someone who has it now really should take one for the team and seed it to a public place if you really want it to spread and be seen.

Plus, it’s not like this whole scene is exactly a secret anymore. I’ve seen articles about Despecialized in major news publications. The genie’s out of the bottle. If Disney or whoever owns the rights to Star Wars now really wanted to shut you all down they would have already. You might as well go public with your initial releases and make sure the maximum number of people obtain copies and continue seeding it. Then there’s no way they could stop it from spreading. I honestly do not understand why everyone here makes their work so inaccessible and exclusive, and us mere mortals have to just sit back and wait for some good samaritan to share a secondhand copy with us.

I haven’t got time to wait for non-premium ulozto
because I’m too busy waiting for a good samaritan

However, in practice you must take into account the “fuckwit factor”. Just talk to Darth Mallwalker…

It isn’t even about the wait. It’s about having to enter a captcha 51 times with download limits. Some of us do not sit at our computers staring at the screen for days on end. Yeah, I’d much rather wait for someone else to upload it in a practical, efficient way.

I haven’t downloaded something like that in literally years. It is 2016. There really is no reason for it when you could easily upload it to a public torrent tracker.

Uh, yeah, it pretty much is. If the reason for not uploading this to a public tracker is to try to keep it low key for legal reasons–and I can’t imagine what other reason there would be–that reason doesn’t really apply anymore now that thousands of even casual and non-fans are well aware of the existence of things like Despecialized. And again, if you’re gonna upload it somewhere like ulozto where anyone can access it anyway, why not make it so it’s a convenient torrent file that you simply upload and hand off to seeders, that is much faster and has none of ulozto’s limitations?

I can see that it’s currently in the process of being uploaded to the newsgroup. Very exciting. When you say BD ISO forthcoming, does that mean it’s, like, in the render queue or you’re just starting it now?

Hate to break it to you, but it’s because of people who “sit at their computers staring at the screen for days on end” that we even have these projects you’re so eager to get your hands on in the first place, so maybe try to avoid basically insulting every person on this forum while you ask for something?

I simply meant I don’t sit at my computer staring at a slow download waiting for when I have to enter a new password and hope the download doesn’t timeout. I certainly appreciate the hard work that goes into making these projects in the first place and certainly did not in any way intend to belittle those who do it. Don’t be so defensive.

if one had read the guide to acquiring harmy’s version, getting this preservation would be rather trivial. even with dealing the file locker. understanding is a thing that one can gain if they are not too dense.

Look, you can mock me all you want if you can’t take some constructive criticism. But I’m not seeing any refutation of the logic that if you’re gonna upload something publicly anyway, you might as well do it in a faster and more convenient way. That’s literally all I’m saying. No need for you all to get your panties all twisted over it. I’m just asking why you make us choose between a slow 51 part download or paying for usenet and trying to figure out how to use it, when you could make it easier for everyone and upload it to a public tracker. Just makes no sense to me.

If “one” had heard of certain public torrent trackers and “one” thought about how to upload files in the most accessible and efficient manner, “one” could easily figure out how to upload a torrent to a public tracker. “One” could also not be condescending and assume that just because someone would prefer not to deal with things that don’t even work for captcha anymore like jdownloader, that doesn’t mean they don’t know how to. They are just pointing out that an easier solution exists for everybody that would make such a convoluted process unnecessary in the first place.
