I am not sure how many different sets there are but my friend recently ordered this one:
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/1565111656/qid=1096578728/sr=8-3/ref=sr_8_xs_ap_i3_xgl14/104-1318103-9186351?v=glance&s=books&n=507846

It contained 15 discs from all three radio dramas. Some say that these might have been edited but I am not sure. Will have to check it against my version.

There's actually two versions there on Amazon, if you go down to "product details" and click "all Editions" and the other version is significantly cheaper with the same amount of episodes and discs. The version you linked is the limited numbered version and has some kind of commentary and stuff like that if you click on the image of the cover you can read what it has.

Do you have the three separate Radio Dramas? Let me know what you find when you compare your version(s) to the one your friend gets. Thanks.

I just started listening to this. A few thoughts.

I always liked learning more about Luke’s frustrations with life on Tatooine. These scenes are good. The voice acting for Deak, Windy, Biggs et al. is quite good.

The early scenes with Leia…are not good. I drifted off a bit while I listened. The whole dinner scene with Lord Tion was weird. The movies already established Leia as tough and capable, not how she is portrayed here. It doesn’t add anything to her character.

I do love Brook Peters as Vader!

I love these. I just discovered them last year, and it’s really cool that these exist, since they’re like “extended editions” of the OT.

I actually really like the added Leia POV scenes, too. Ann Sachs did a great job in the role. I wasn’t a fan of Brock Peters at first, but he really grew on me by the time I got to Empire.

I like the first two. Mark Hamill is great in both. The third one is a letdown. Though Joshua Fardon did a good job. Doesn’t expand ROTJ much.

The only thing i didn’t like was Jabba becoming Heater in the Star Wars radio play. Should have been Jabba.

By that point they knew what Jabba would become in ROTJ and made a sensible retcon by keeping the scene in ANH but making it an emissary. I dig it, and it’s part of my headcanon over and against the SE.

I know I’ve made some very poor decisions recently.

Don’t forget to listen to “Rebel mission to Ord Mandell” before ESB. Only 30min.
Unfortunately the main voice cast are all different.

Yeah i have that on vinyl. Corey Burton is Luke. He played a different member of the Rogue’s in Empire Strikes Back. Hobbie. He also played Luke in 1979 on a read along record i think for children.

I also have Dark Empire where Luke is voiced by John Cygan who also played Canderous in Kotor. Mandalore in Kotor II.

Recently, I started relistening to A New Hope for the first time in 20 years .
Originally, I had taped cassettes during the NPR airings.
I remember Empire being OK, but lacking the wealth of backstories and side stories.
Never heard Jedi; didn’t that come out later?
Are there extras on Jedi like there were on A New Hope?
If so, I might track this down, although I disliked the film.

The third radio play it’s more an extension of the EU than an expansion of the film.

You have mentions of EU. Luke building his lightsaber in Ben’s hut or cave with Kenobi’s book with Adegan Crystals. Mara Jade shows up as Arica at Jabba’s Palace. And they mention Threepio flying the Falcon in Shadows of the Empire.

Mark Hamill does not reprise, nor does Billy Dee Williams. Only Tony Daniels returns as Threepio.

Though they were able to bring back the other radio players. Perry King as Han, Ann Sachs as Leia. Brock Peters as Vader. And Johh Lithgow as Yoda and they had Ed Asner as Jabba the Hutt.

Joshua Fardon does a decent job but he is no Mark Hamill. Lando is exceedingly poorly cast. Arye Gross sounds nothing like Billy Dee.

Thank you. I think I will pass.
Listening to only one episode weekly of “A New Hope” will last me months.
