[spoRv] projects - past and future — Page 6

AVP:R has been released yesterday - forgot to post here, oops! (^^,)

I managed to download the HDTV open matte version of Gladiator... 20GB and a week later, I discovered that file is corrupted and only the first 29 minutes are present, while the latter part is unplayable/unmuxable/etc.

I tried a lot of video fixer, but nothing worked... so, until I could fix it or find a working file, Gladiator is put on hold... I'm sorry, as this version is very good and open matte is "real", with also CGI effects completely in 16:9 and not cropped like in some other open matte releases of other titles.

New projects are on their way, but before this, I should finish the ones I started...

Sadly my projects are lost due to an HDD crash… 😦 | [Fundamental Collection] thread | blog.spoRv.com | fan preservation forum: fanres.com

Damn!

Hopefully things can be salvaged with the Gladiator HDTV file.

I tried everything, to demux and/or repair the file... like

tsmuxer
tsremux
avidemux
virtualdub (via avisynth)
virtualdubmod (via avisynth)
dgmpegdec
mpegstreamclip
projectx
mpeg2repair
tsdoctor

and probably others that I'm forgetting right now... AFAIK, if this file could be fixed, one or more of the previous software should fix it, so probably it's a lost cause...

It's not a lost cause, I have the 20gb bev open matte transport stream of gladiator that looks great with nice grain structure.

I can upload it for you if you want.

Thanks, it will be great! Lost cause still for my "poor" unfixable .ts file... (^^,)

Andrea, did you get your release from rutracker? If so, I have copy of it (on backup drive that I can pull out of closet) and can check to see if it plays/demuxes ;)

Author

Jerry, no, it was not from rutracker, but probably it's the same file, apart that mine is corrupted... try to demux it to see if it's ok.

sorry I didn't respond sooner, I passed out with the laptop still in my lap, LOL

So if you search for "gladiator hdtv" on rutracker you will get the 20.2GB version and it works! it's still being seeded real strong - very fast speed, I know because I couldn't find the file on my backup drive (might be on one of the other ones, as I have 5 of them) so I downloaded it and it only took 3 1/2 hours. File looks great, plays all the way and demuxes with tsmuxer without any problem. it is open matte and here is the mediainfo:

Thanks, found! But it seems everybody has it but me... (^^,)

So, is it Gladiator [spoRv] still a good idea?

You're welcome ;)
Personally, I don't care much about the movie (not saying it's a bad movie) and only provided you with info to help you out but I'm sure there are people that would appreciate it.

SIDE-NOTE: rutracker is a gold-mine for HDTV copies of numerous movies (many of which are open matte) in great/decent quality (often, of movies never released on bluray), that usually have pretty solid seeds...

Is Electric Dreams out there anywhere?  I've been looking for that film for years.

sent you PM for the 1080p HDTV copy ;)

Thanks, jerryshadoe.  I had no idea it was available.  I should have known better and looked over there.  Amazing.  I have been waiting for an HDTV broadcast of this film forever.  Back when I had HDNet Movies I never got a chance to see it.  This is great!

You're very welcome. The quality of this one is pretty damn nice too... Enjoy ;)
It does have a mgm hd watermark in the upper-left corner tho, but it's not really distracting. There, apparently, was also an official DVD release.

Just had a chance to watch Electric Dreams in 1080p... man, oh, man.  Superb.  Never thought it would happen.  This is one of those lost '80s films with a great soundtrack that no one remembers but is remarkable.  So many thanks to everyone for making this available.  If you are an Electric Dreams fan (I must be because I even have the soundtrack on vinyl which I bought in the '80s) don't miss this extraordinary presentation.  It may never be released in the U.S. even on DVD much less Blu-ray.  The picture and sound are stellar.

Out of curiosity, I watched the trailer; frankly, I can't remeber to have ever watched this movie, even in the '80s; but it's so nerdy that I should watch it ASAP! (^^,)

Flexycon9, why don't you take some time and start a BD project about it?!?

Hi, Andrea.  This film is not unlike the new Spike Jonze movie called "Her" in that it's a computer driven love story.  I have been thinking about doing my first project for a long time now and this just may be it.  In the meantime, the HDTV broadcast is out there for those who wish to see it now.  I think that since the soundtrack is so readily available, a 5.1 re-mastering of the audio could be a possibility but that is ambitious for me at this point.  However, I will look into this and find the tools necessary for the job.  I wouldn't have to re-color it as the timing is correct.  The 2-channel audio is strong but an alternative multi channel track could be the ticket considering how good the music is in this film.  I may have to pick a few brains around here to get this thing right.

It hasn't had an official release in the U.S., but there was an official DVD release in Europe: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Electric-Dreams-DVD-Virginia-Madsen/dp/B001QXZ81G

This might be a good source, if you wish to get rid of the mgm hd watermark on that 1080p copy. Just a suggestion, if you end up doing a project for this ;)

Agree; that logo SHOULD be deleted somehow...

Don't forget there are also an italian and spanish PAL DVD at least - probably german and french too... plus, a soundtrack CD.

Flexicon9, if you thought about a project to start with, this could be the right one!

If you think a movie should receive a [spoRv] treatment, post your ideas here, using BOLD for each movie title, and explain why and how it should be preserved or restored; as you can see, I much prefer sci-fi and horror movies, but I like action too!

 Hello again here.

Well, I assume it's not your kind of thing but one movie i would suggest is RAINTREE COUNTY (1957) starring Elizabeth Taylor and Montgomery Clift.

Here's a thread I had started about this:

http://originaltrilogy.com/forum/topic.cfm/Raintree-County-1957/topic/16310/

why?

Because this is a very important movie, the first that was shot in UltraPanavision 70.

It's very impressive with wonderful scenery and a masterful music score.

It's considered the widescreen "Gone With the Wind".

There isn't any official DVD release of it, and Warner seems not interested in releasing this in Bluray anytime soon.

For 2-3 years it has been voted the most anticipated Blu-ray in Home Theater forum.

how?

Well, there is a Laserdisc version that I know of, although i don't know its quality.

Also it has been broadcasted on TCM, and it will be broadcasted again in end of June and beginning of July.

I also have heard that it was broadcasted in HDnet Broadcast and it looked very good! But I've been unable to find any rip of this broadcast.

Even if I must agree that this title should be preserved, I'm sorry, you are right, it's not my kind of things... (^^,) plus, I have not the laserdisc nor any HDTV source, and don't forget I'm following (too) many projects at the moment...

What I could suggest is to post your request in the main "other preservation" forum, and ask there if someone would like to make this project; good luck!

Ok, don't worry. ;)

(looking forward to your Beauty and the Beast, as I wrote in your thread. The screenshots look encouraging for a very good transfer, comparing to the laserdisc rip I already have. An official Bluray of the original film reel restored (with grain and original colors) would be a dream come true to me, but unfortunately I don't think I'll experience it in my lifetime! So your efforts are greatly appreciated!)

Yes, I have posted it, in the link that i have in my previous post.

Noone replied unfortunately.

Even if someone had just a laserdisc rip or an HDTV rip it would be great!

BATB will be ready soon; but before this, I'm going to re-release my first projects with BD compliant encoding - Escape From New York will be released ASAP, then Halloween and The Thing.

About RAINTREE COUNTY; be patient, maybe someone with an HDTV or laserdisc rip will see your post sooner or later!
