Back in the early 90s I used to read american comics, stuff like spider-man, x-men, the whole "death of superman" thing, spawn, until it became too silly, and I gave up reading it (I only read local comics and janapese manga now). I remember that when I stoped reading it, Peter Parker had a clone of himself, and it was so weird, I just decided to give up on spider-man. Then on 2002 I watched the movie - wtf? Where was Gwen? What was MJ doing over there? Uh, the name was Gwen, right? Spider-man's first girlfriend?

Not much point in introducing Gwen now, since they already stole Spiderman’s most dramatic storyline for the first movie and replaced Gwen with MJ.

I wasn’t a fan of the first movie, too generic with an inconsistent script and lack of characterization (except for the Goblin) but so far this second one looks like it’s going to be pretty good with some positive buzz. I’m no Ebert fan, but he gave it a raving review so I’m kinda looking forward to it now.

I would've worked the midnight screening, but I have to work @ 7am the next day. I may work opening night though.

Princess Leia: I happen to like nice men.
Han Solo: I'm a nice man.

Dont worry dude. That's a reference to the comics. The green goblin originally killed Gwen (Peter Parker's first girlfriend) by dropping her from a bridge. Mary Jane came later. Unfortunally the producers of the movie didn't bother with this at all.

Actually I was just kidding about the spoiler tag. I know the Spidey comics, I used to collect them a long time ago. Sadly, from the trailer it does looks like MJ gets thrown off a building (again). Geez, I'm sick of her damsel-in-distress routine. Can't they give her character something real to do?

I think they introduce Doc Connners in this movie to set up the Lizard for the next. Now who's up for a cinematic version of the clone wars saga?!

aww man thats a shame! you're missing out on some gems now!

Recent additions to my increasing comic collection include:

Superman:Birthright....a damn good series that starts where the Smallville TV series would end (ie Clark finishing High School) & when the 1st Superman movie would take place.................roughly the 7 year gap of Superman's life. Quite a good read & only on issue 8 so not too late to jump on that band wagon!

Ultimate whatever...............ok sounds odd but wait.......Marvel decided the time was right to "reinvent" a whole load of their superheros for the 21st century.......the result........ULTIMATE SPIDERMAN.....i dare you to read it & not get hooked, ULTIMATE X-MEN.....absolutely superb art & a cracking reinvention of the X-Men...................THE ULTIMATES..........quite possibly my fave of the 3, Captain America, the HULK, HAWKEYE & a few of the other former Avengers/Defenders get a nice overhaul.........& just recently started ULTIMATE FANTASTIC FOUR which i've yet to read but will get round to it!

Other than that you've also (I'm assuming) missed out on Frank Millers superb collection of SIN CITY stories.......the best comic series I have read since either the Dark Knight Returns or Watchmen!

North-american comics that could go to the big screen:

Maus
Lobo
The whole Secret Wars saga
Mr. Hero

Maus is really original, and very well done. It's done by the son of a Holocaust suvivor, and he tells his father's story, but makes each nationality a different animal--the Jews are mice, for example.

Actually, I didn't post what the Nazis were because I thought I was getting them mixed up with the Poles, but you are right, the Nazis are cats, now that I think about it.

Mice... Ok.. Weirdness.

I'm gonna have to agree with ric (Wow--me agreeing with Ric. Go figure)
American comics have become stupid--with so many re-starts and reinventions. It's become utterly riddickulous.

But yeah... If the trailer is anything to go by, Spiderman 2 is gonna rock.

Eh? Is it so hard to agree with me? Am I so ridiculous insane that all my opinions are incredibly and insanely wrong?

About Maus: the great thing about it is the title, at least, if you speak portuguese. I'm not sure if it was intentional or not, but "maus" in portuguese means "bad ones". And the pronunciation of it is exactly as saying "mouse" in english.

There should be a animated feature version of Maus, pretty much like "When the wind blows" (an animated feature about a nuclear holocaust).
