Weird question perhaps, but would you be willing to update your ROTS “theatrical reconstruction” with your new HDTV v2.0? I don’t know how much of your ROTS v2.0 has changed from v1.0, so I’m not sure if it would even be a worthwhile upgrade.

I’ve already taken care of the video, but I wanted to wait to post until I could update the audio portion a bit.

For my prequel edits, or at least I and II since III has no subtitles, I would have preferred to match the OT’s font and style. But, I had to do as close of a match as possible to the HDTV of AOTC, and I think I did about as good of a job of it as could be hoped for, down to video noise and discoloring. (Compare the subtitles in the Ep2 Watto scene, which was sourced from the BluRay to allow me to change one shot’s subtitle in order to shorten it, with any other subtitles in the film.) The logical side of me insists that it’s not worth the agony of remastering my edit of AOTC without some larger impetus, but I’m glad I stuck with the PT’s subtitle style. It seems authentic because it is.

My stance on revising fan edits.

I mean, if it’s just a drop-in and re-encode situation, it’s probably worth it. If not, I wouldn’t sweat it too much.

Quick question: would you be willing to share full-bitrate encodes of just the burned-in subtitle parts for TPM and AOTC for anyone who might want them? Since they have the fade ins/outs and all that, which you can’t really do for softsubs IIRC.

Yeah, I could make that happen. 😃

I’d also like to get my hands on these, if possible. Thanks

Unfortunately, for reasons I don’t entirely understand, it never is. FCP7 is a house fire in suspended animation.

Ooh, that’s nice to hear!

I hope you can add Japanese audio and subtitles.

And I’ve loved every pixel of it.

Any help with that would be great!

I’m not sure if my post never appeared or if it was deleted for mentioning a file name that I shouldn’t have mentioned.

Along with again wanting an update of the theatrical reconstruction of ROTS, I’d like to see the Backstroke of the West fandub synced and included in all future updates of your ROTS encodes. Unfortunately, I have no idea what the original source for it is.

I’m pretty sure I have that somewhere. I’ll take a look.

One more thing that I forgot. You’ll need to make crawl only subtitles for the fandub. It should simply be a matter of making a copy of the full subtitles and deleting everything after the opening crawl, but still.

Any chance of a version WITH the burned-in subs?

I’m in the process of doing lower bitrate encodes that will include just the English language audio and subtitles and will have burnt alien subs.

Just to clarify, this is in essence an HD preservation of the 04 versions of the OT and the dvd versions of the PT

After being beaten and battered by prequel hate, I promise not to be that to the next generation.

Cool. Having played-generated subs in all those languages is good and fine, but these releases are the current next best alternate to theatrical preservations.

Haven’t gotten a chance to download any of these yet, but are they player-generated (SRT) subs, or Blu-Ray (SUP) graphical subs?

Either way they wouldn’t have the fade ins/outs and the timing might not be precise, but the font, size, kerning, drop shadows, and placement would be all baked in with SUP subs.

They are Blu-Ray graphical subs (PGS/SUP). I’ve matched the known theatrical styles and positioning as well as possible for each. The timing of Alien Subtitles are frame accurate based on known references, with the exceptions of the Jabba scene in ANH, and the single additional shot that appears in ROTJ, for which theatrical timing references don’t exist. Of course, the TPM and AOTC subs don’t fade in or out, as that’s not really possible to create without professional software.

Subtitle tracks for ROTS use the same style as AOTC, and subtitles for TESB use the same style as ANH, as those films don’t have any alien subtitles to match with.

In the process of preparing the lower bitrate versions, I found a rather large sync error with the English SDH subtitles of Phantom Menace. I have posted a new torrent to MySpleen and the Resilio link should be update automatically.

I should have the lower bitrate versions ready to post by the end of today. 😃

In prepping the low bitrate versions, I’ve found a pretty big error with Attack of the Clones.

The very top and bottom row of pixels are off sync by one frame for the entire second half of the film. I’ve found the problem in my script and have done a couple of test encodes trying to fix it.

The final encode should be done by tomorrow, and I should be able post the finished, lower bit rate versions later today, as long as the encode checks out ok.

Update:

I’ve completed everything and should be able to share the final version of AOTC tonight. Once again, I’ll re-post on myspleen and the Resilio folder should update automatically.

I’ll also be posting the lower bitrate, English-only versions to the spleen and resilio as well.

Apologies if I missed it, but I keep seeing references to low and high bitrate versions of this amazing (and exhaustive) project but no specifications as to what the bitrates are?

How ‘low’ is the “Low bitrate” version? Are the “low bitrate” versions in the 8-10 gigs per film range?
