is it just me or does university acceptance piss you off. 9 years ago my sister applied to universities all over canada, including UBC and QUEENS (two of the top universities in the world.) she had and average of 78% and got in everywhere at that time the curriculum was easier as well math they did in grade 12 is stuff we do in grade 11. now i am appling every where i have applied to UBC UVIC UofT waterloo, geulph and Queens. i have an average of 83% and i am takeing IB courses, and i have bee rejected by UBC, UofT and Queens. tell me how fair is that. it just pisses me off how universities hav such high requirement for ppl coming out of highschool.

Well, the problem is that higher ed funding is being cut while overall populations are still expanding. So they have to be more selective about who they take. I know that here in the States, the requirements for ACT and SAT testing have gone through the roof.

Here are a couple of other questions to consider...

How fair is it that now students get to use a calculator on their college entrance exams and I couldn't?

How fair is it that you have the Web for research and I was stuck with only my shitty library (WWW was introduced the end of my freshman year in college)?

It's the same all over. I got accepted in 1999 with a 75% average, but it seems that grade requirements are getting higher all the time.

universities are free here. plus everyone gets around 600 $ for free a month from the government. money that does not need to be paid back once you are at place of higher education.

i know it is getting more expensive, and you'd think that the higher costs would decrease enrollment and lower the costs, but that just isn't happening.

the only thing you pay for here is books.

Must be nice. My tuition for law school is over $5000/yr, plus books. I can get student loans and bursaries, but they don't make much of a dent in it. Of course, I could be in the same boat as those who entered law school after me; the university instituted a differential tuition fee for law, which means that people starting this year will be paying $8000. It could be worse; U of T law is $22 000/yr.

I'm not kidding, Shimmy. I'm not sure what regular undergrad tuition is @ U of T, but the law school differential brings it up to $22k.

I think Shimmy and Skipper should change their signature lines to "I'm schizophrenic... and so am I."

Except that schizophrenia is not multiple personality disorder, or Dissociative Identity Disorder, as it is now called in the DSM-IV. Schizophrenia involves both auditory and visual hallucinations, and means split mind. The split is not of the mind in half, but rather a split from reality.
