OK,

I am installing a CD-ROM drive, CD-RW drive, & a DVD-RW-DL drive. My Hard Drive is on primary 1 master. Can anyone recommend the best configuration? I was thinking this...

Primary 1 Master - Hard Drive
Primary 2 Slave - CD-ROM
Secondary 1 Master - DVD-RW-DL
Secondary 2 Slave - CD-RW

Does it really make a difference? I'm not that technical.

does your dvd burner also burn cds? mine did so i dropped the straight cdrw and just put in the burner.

but as far as your set up, what you listed there is probably ideal. Reason being the IDE channel can only read or write one at a time...so if your doing a direct copy of cd to cd (or dvd to dvd if your cd-rom is in fact a dvd-rom) then it will be faster otherwise it will copy to the hd first. same goes for copying files from harddrive to cd/dvd it would have to read then write as apposed to a simultanous read/write.

p.s. Im more of a software guy, so while im pretty sure as to the accuracy of the above dont shoot me if i am missinformed.

Any DVD burner will also do CD burning. You shouldn't need both.

And even if that wasn't the case, why do you need the plain CD-ROM??
If you need to transfer from CD to CD-R, you've got the DVD drive that can be the source drive.

i have worn out a few drives. i am using the cd-rom for everyday use to avoid wear and tear on the more expensive ones.

I would ditch the ordinary CD-ROM for the time being; CD burners are so cheap now that they're relatively disposable. My DVD-ROM drive dies, so I replaced it with a DVD +/-RW drive and am using my CD-RW burner as my CD-ROM drive.

If you don't mind me asking, what would benefit from removing the CD-ROM?
