Shining Trailer Recut

you know it would probably be one of the most daring and brillent marketing moves ever to make a movie like the shinying and in all the pre release trailers portray it like that. then release the movie, shock the hell outta everyone. and then release the dark normal trailers as follow ups. people would go nuts over it.

Hey Shimmy, you might be onto something. I remember a similar campaign a few years ago, where the first teaser showed short clips with no dialogue or sound effects but let you know the movie was full of mystery, adventure and romance. Then the movie opened, and people were trying to figure out the mystery of where the adventure and romance went, and the video release was promoted with a silly commercial showing a segment that, depending on the viewer's mood when he saw it, was either completely bad-ass or inexcusably stupid.

You might have seen it, I think it was "When Clones Attack!" or something like that.

I posted that trailer on another thread, can't remember which one, a few days ago.

Seriously speaking, that would be mind blowing, marketing a movie as, let's say, a romantic comedy, and make it so for the first 30 minutes, and then BANG the major character in the movie goes postal and the whole thing becomes Rambo, then there's like, NO romance and 90 minutes of violence and gore, and explosions.

Or a movie like Dinner with Andre, have you seen this? 2 hours of the two characters talking philosiphically, imagine how cool it would be if one of them killed the other and spent most of the movie trying to get rid of the body, I mean, mind blowing, if you market it as if it's just a talk movie...
“Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country.” — Nazi Reich Marshal Hermann Goering

Ric, that's actually pretty similar to "Psycho." I'll admit I don't know what the trailers for it were like, but the first half-hour sets up what looks like the story of a thief on the run with a bunch o' loot. She stops for the night at a small motel off the beaten path and prepares for her next move, then the story takes a hard left turn when she takes a shower and finds herself getting poked in the belly in a decidedly un-Pillsbury-Doughboy-like way.

Yes, Psycho was like that... I belive there were no trailers, no screen tests, no press screening, and no one was admitted into the theater after the movie started... But I meant a more drastic change...

Was this the same trailer remake that won that contest several months back? I am not sure of the details, but saw the winning "shining" trailer, but remember it differently.
