Seriously speaking now, you know what? Let people buy it, but... let's hope Lucasarts NEVER publicizes properly that this is an altered version. When people get home and watch it, they'll get pissed. There will be some angry costumers, demanding their money back. Yes, this is how we can win...
In another forum I've heard about a good idea: pre-buying it, and cancelling one week before it's released. A lot of people on this brazillian forum are going to do it (I'm not, what if I can't cancel it)...

People complain that Jabba in ANH looks awful, which he did. Now it is fixed.
People complan that after all the CGI Sy Snooldes crap, that they never fixed the Rancor scene. Now they have.
If people hate the SE because it looks too-much like a carftoon, then why hate it MORE when they fix that?

I hate the SE's because they were pointless, derivative, superfluous, and half-assed. They changed good scenes and added bad ones. The CGI work was sub-par by company standards. The celebration scene went against canon, and it made classic films into technological testbeds. It's not a matter of hating it more with more changes, its a matter of what remains, and why its there. Its a matter of saying, "why didn't they do that in the first place". Where does it end? When Lucas remakes them from scratch? The SE with more changes, even if they are improvements, are still a case of pretty paint on ugly walls.

Ok, I'm going to try and explain 'what the big deal is' with all of the changes/tinkering with these movies.
I read this on another board and I hope that I can keep it as close to the original idea as possible.
Picture this if you will. You have a favorite restaurante. You eat there all the time. You love the food, you love the atmosphere. Then suddenly, the owner of the joint fires the chef and hires a new one. The menu didn't change. Just the chef. However, now you begin to notice that your favorite foods don't quite taste the way they used to. It's not that the food tastes bad, but it's just not the same. It's not what you grew to love.
That in a nut shell is how most of us here feel about the SE versions of these films. It's not that what Lucas is doing is 'bad.' Most of us feel that the clean up of the movies and fixing what really needed to be fixed is great. And there are some of us who feel that some of the 'cosmetic' changes and tinkerings are ok. Not great. But ok. Example, the Cloud City windows (at least for me anyway).
I, and many others here, have stated time and time again that we don't care how much Lucas changes the films. We just want the choice to either buy the original versions or the new versions. Lucas is refusing to release the original (and by original I mean of course the theatrical versions of the films that have been cleaned up and no added scenes, Jabba, Luke girlie screem, Jedi Rocks number, ect.) These are the films that I and many others saw back in 77, 80 and 83. These are the movies that we want on DVD. Like your favorite food as mentioned above. We don't want the new dishes that have been spiced up. The original dishes were just fine. We savored those dishes for over 20 years. Now if we want to own Star Wars on DVD we are literally being forced to either buy the new version DVDs or to just go without. That is the big deal!

The problem I have with the SE is that the original movies are forever lost. It's like having a paiting you love, and then someone paints a mustache over it, and you can't remove it anymore. I'm OK with him releasing the SEs, George Lucas can turn the whole thing into a bobsponge squarepants cartoon if he wants to, I don't care. I'm OK with watching the SEs, yes there are some neat things there, windows in cloud city, i liked the sarlaac pit, "you're lucky to get out of there" original line, but it can't REPLACE the original one.
I have them on VHS tapes, copies of the 1995 release, and I don't have a VCR anymore (it broke while I was watching ANH) and I'll not buy another VCR (buying VCRs is too 80s to me), and the DVD was my only chance to see them in a original presentation. I don't want to download it from some torrent, I don't have a DVD burner. I don't want to buy a bootleg, mostly because it's kinda hard to find the original unaltered trilogy here, and it would cost too much to buy it from the US or UK. I wanted an official DVD from 20th century fox and lucasfilm, with comentaries, with special features and all that stuff...
Another good example is THX-1138. I've always wanted to watch it, and it's unavailable here in Brazil. It will be available now, but it'll be that special edition. I'll never be able to watch the original movie, ever...
