japanese speaker needed for a project

Author
Time

I'm working on a Usavich Complete Collection project, and as there are no subtitles at all for the extras, I need a japanese speaker who is willing to help me... I tried to do it by myself, using Wikipedia japanese alphabet(s) and painfully trying to find out which character is which, and it took more than an hour to translate a single name... (^^,)

What I need are essentially two things:

1) translation of simple, short phrases - mainly characters and vehicles description - found on video; there will be around two dozen descriptions, with few rows each (example), and for a japanese speaker it will take one or two hours (I guess) to do it; final text will be superimposed over the japanese original text.

2) translation of the "Making of"; in this case, the speech needs a transcription, and it will take more time than 1), even if it's only about 11 minutes long; final text will be used for subtitles.

Most needed is 1), as it will take some time to re-do the video, while 2) could be done in almost no time when the final text will be ready.

Many thanks in advance to whom may help!

Kedamusuki
2nd line - loves to eat.

I'd like to help out more but my Kanji knowledge is still in the mid hundreds and I have to improve my knowledge of the grammar.

Edit
Putting the third line into Google translate yields "I have always grinning in the nude." Bing translate gives "Always have smile in the nude."
The romaji for the third line is itsumo zenrade niyaniya shite iru.

According to Wikipedia (and also other sources)...

Kedamsky (?????? Kedamusuk?)

It's quite difficult to find the exact meaning of a phrase sometimes... here you are the Google translation of episode 26.5 title...

?M?? = De M Note

meaning: "Watch (out) for Extreme Masochist"... it took me some hours to find out it...

Well, a simple conversion from graphics to text will be enough; Google translation is my friend (sometimes) and I will try to find out a proper mean for the phrase, knowing something about the context.

If you would like to help, I will take all the needed screenshots.

Many thanks in advance!

Kedamsky (<span>??????</span> Kedamusuk?
What I wrote is the romaji of the characters. There is no singular "m" sound in Japanese for instance. It's always paired with a vowel after it. Ma Mi Mu Me Mo in this instance mu. There's a su and a ki after that. Then the extender which just extends the last vowel. So I suppose I should've wrote "kedamusukii". "Kedamsky" is likely close to how it's pronounced with the "u" in "mu" and "su" being softened. The "ky" representing the "ki" sound due to it's inherent similarity to names like "Salinsky" and "Alinsky". So that's likely why the official transliteration differs from my own.

Another thing is that there's several different romaji systems and "romaji" itself is sometimes written "romanji" in a few old texts I've come across. Learning from older material, as I've been doing, I've come across at least 5 different romaji systems. Plus different phonetic transcription systems.

Anyways um, I'd be willing to help as much as I can. I'll give you some sites that can help with finding kanji right now. Here's some sites that you can search via radical.
http://www.kanji-a-day.com/dictionary/radical.php
http://kanji.sljfaq.org/mr.html
http://jisho.org/kanji/radicals/

You can click on what you recognize from part of the kanji. You can click multiple parts as well to narrow down the search to a specific kanji.

Edit
What I could do with the other lines.
First line Google translate gives:
Phantom living in a mysterious forest.

Bing translate gives:
The phantom lives in a mysterious forest.

The romaji for the first line seems to be:
fushigina morini sumukaijin.

Final line:
Google translate yeilds:
Foot is faster than the jet black Kirenenko if be very.

Bing translate:
Very nimble, kirenenko quicker feet.

Romaji for final line seems to be:
Totemo suba shikkoku kirenenko yori ashiga hayai.

But seriously folks, a duel English Japanese speaker would be handy to know for me too, as I'm thinking of a 'The Last Samurai' based project which would have a Kanji title sequence that would almost certainly be hilariously wrong if I relied on Google translate.

My PC is busy doing the Episode 2.5 conversion; after that, I'll check out for all the video parts with text to be translated, and will post them in a zipped file; I'll post the link here when it will be ready - in about two hours.

And thanks again for your help!!!

Sorry, yesterday I went to sleep and forgot to do the job...

Here you are the images: http://www.sendspace.com/file/uo1cue

they are 40, but as the main characters are repeated for the five series, many description will be similar between them.

What will be great is to have a .rtf or .doc file for each image, with japanese text "as is", plus a possible translation if you can do it.

No worries I couldn't get to downloading it until right now anyway. I'm actually tired myself at the moment. I'll start transcribing the pics into a rtf in the morning. Don't know how long it'll take me but I'll try my best to accomplish it in a timely matter.

I'm working on it right now; when text will be ready, I'll overlay it to the video - hope to finish before new year's eve.

So started doing this... First image made me think "um is this thing about dissecting corpses???" At least when I found out what the kanji meant... Anyways I think I'll be able to do at least 5 images today. I'll work on the rest tomorrow. I think time-wise I could technically do more but I got other stuff to attend to off line and on line.

Also I'm just putting it together into one rtf with it labeled with the images in the order giving in the zip. It's simply a waste of space of create individual rtfs for each image.

That said back to it.

This is what about: Usavich

Obviously, a single rtf file better than many ones!

Take your time, and meanwhile... (,^^) MERRY XMAS! (^^,)

Sumimasen, the delay I've had in this is admittedly too long. I can only apologize. First this happened to deter me from visiting here. Then what I didn't mention there is that I was actually sick at that time. I intended to write out a message in this thread at around the same time but I was too tired for that. I did manage to make some other posts but I wasn't entirely focused so I kind of didn't want to screw up posting in this thread. Another thing is that once my sickness recovered I had family wanting to spend time with me and essentially take up the time I had to spend posting here. Then some dire issues came up with one of my pets and I became preoccupied dealing with that.

Suffice it to say many things took me away from this. Well I'm back now and the best way to make up with that is to actually make some progress with this. I've copy and pasted the info for the first three images in the link above. If that way is good for you I can continue with the information for the other images that way. It's posted under a "read more" thing and a random generic tag so the general tumblr populace won't even read it. Here's what I mean. If that works out for you let me know and I'll post more of the image info throughout the week.

Again many apologies for my lack of progress here before. Now here's a random gif I found while browsing the internet!

You have not to excuse: this is an hobby, not a work, and what you, I, all of us, is doing is volunteer and not paid so... don't worry!

And I understand you, as I have some health problems too lately - luckily not so bad; and I understand more the problems with pets - look at my new avatar!

I can't read japanese text in tumblr; probably is because I had to reinstall OS and forgot to install japanese language support... well, please make a reference for each image, using the original image title - like image 1 was season1_60626.JPG - it will be easier to me. OK for tumblr.

If I well understood, when there are only Google and/or Bing translation, then it could be (almost) exact, right?

Thanks again for your effort!

I hope you feel better soon! Sorry to hear you've got pet problems as well. ****virtual hugs****

Well when there's only Google or Bing translation there it's either close enough or I simply don't feel confident in my level of Japanese to properly translate it into English. Japanese is around my 8th language in terms of ability. I've gotten a lot better at it since I've started my language learning quest but a lot of what I know is conversational stuff.

Ichiban suki terebi shouga Chuck dekedo sukimo Desu Nototoka Switched at Birthtoka Babylon 5tokadesu.
My favorite TV show is Chuck but I also like Death Note, Switched at Birth, Babylon 5, etc...

^That kind of stuff. I just need to study more to get better at it. :-)

If anyone is still in need of a Japanese speaker for any project, my degree is in Japanese Studies. I'm sure I could be of assistance in a group.

Konnichiwa! (with moshi-moshi, mirai, monogatari my japanese language knowledge stops here...)

Here you are the file, reuploaded: http://www.sendspace.com/file/5gb215 (1.3MB)

I think the best thing will be that Twister111 will continue his work up to image 20; Sadako will start from image 21; when ready, you should cross check your work, to see if something could be improved or corrected?

Is it good for you?

Please, just don't forget to menton image filename!

Alright, I'll get started on those. I'll transcribe the text from the screen into an .odt (or a .pdf, whichever you prefer), then have the translation beneath it. I'll include any translator notes, too, if you wonder about my interpretations, lol.

Thanks Sadako!

An .odt will be preferable, as I could edit it easily if needed.
