Info & a REQUEST: Muppet Christmas Carol - Extended TV Edit

There’s a video here on YouTube of a longer version of the song “Marley & Marley” from The Muppet Christmas Carol. It contains the extra intro and final verse heard on the soundtrack CD.

From the description and comments, it seems this was the version broadcast on TV before High Def.

Does anyone remember this version of the film? Were there any other extra or alternate bits?

It’s a long shot, but does anyone have any full recording of this syndicated edit, or a higher-quality video of the extended Marley song?

Never knew about this. Great find!

I suppose this can be preserved by re-insterting it into the 2002 Pan and Scan DVD, which also has “When Love is Gone”.

Thanks 😀

I would presume so, but I don’t know if there were any other little changes. I suppose I could easily do that at least as a stopgap.

I’m no expert, but it’s my understanding that these syndicated TV edits of films would usually add a lot of cut material to pad the running time to neatly fill a broadcast timeslot.

Which song do you mean?

WLIG was also on many (all?) pre-DVD home video releases. Of course, there is now an HD version of WLIG from the digital release’s extras which has even been fan-edited back into the film very nicely.

As for the extended Marley song, I believe its visuals are unique to the old TV version, though I’d love to be wrong about this.
