Sorry, that silly line's been devilling my mind ever since i saw polanski's macbeth. such luridness. but enuff of that, this thread shall be devoted to the awesomness of the oft heralded bbc production I, claudius!

I have only seen the entire series the last couple of weeks and had not so before. I had read robert graves novels and quite a few history books about rome before i saw this and it really added to the enjoyment.

Fuck- is this not the most brilliant 'thing' ever? Mario bros 1 has met its match. definately the greatest tv show if anything. Well...lonesome dove comes awfully close doesnt it.

What a list of extraordinary actors. my favorite episode were the ones with caligula as emperor. John hurt's eyes. jesus, so fascinatingly devious (reminds me i need to find 10, rillington place on dvd somewhere : o ). But every period was perfectly translated to screen. Never thought i would get the shakes watching Patrick stewart. what an unerving performance. l. Brian Blessed as augustus- IS THERE ANYONE IN ROME WHO HASNT SLEPT WITH MY DAUGHTER lol. and off course derek jacobi as clau-clau-claudius.

What do you guys think? and what are your favorite episodes?

The I claudius dvd was the best 8 euros i've ever spend in my life!

Us yanks don't get the BBC, so I don't think the majority of us will have even heard of it. Sounds very interesting though.

That's a real shame, C3PX. It's really worth it. I figger not much close to its greatness. you should definately try and look into, with or without bbc.

Besides i think you can get it on dvd in the states too. It's a fairly well known series. I think it's a thousand times better than rome, even though that's a great show too.

I Claudius is indeed the greatest drama the BBC ever produced. The abhorrent production values are completely mitigated by some of the finest acting ever captured for the small screen. For those of you who are upset at the cancellation of "Rome" look no further ... the escapades of the Julii continue from Agustus' through Nero in astounding manner.

Highly recommended.

oh, come on now. the production values aren't that awful. They are perfectly acceptable. But I agree with the acting bit. Not only small screen, every screen. dudes all deserved oscars for this lol.

We used to watch this in Latin class. I don't remember if we got through the whole thing or not, but our teacher would turn the TV around and fast forward whenever we encountered nudity. Maybe for some of the violent stuff too.

I remember loving it, though any time you're watching a video rather than doing class, that's a good thing. I remember Caligula is fricking weird. This brings it back, though, I want to check it out. Unfortunately it is $50 on Amazon, used...
