I’m still frustrated with the cut to a deep emotional connection for my favorite character, but I would like to watch this as it does sound interesting and has gotten good reviews. I would like a link if possible.

Hey! Is there a way I can get a link to your edit? I would absolutely LOOOOVE to see this and what I read about your edit makes me want to rewatch the show again and then just watch your edit in the end.

I really love your ideas for the ending. It sounds perfect to me.
Could I get a link, please?

Wow such exceptional work, truly amazing Darth, you made Game of Thrones effectively rewatchable again, “everyone in this world owes you a debt that can never be repaid”, seriously.
It is truly amazing how much can be reused of the original to repurpose the plot and make it so much better and satisfying, very creative!
I recall only around 3 instances where I noticed that immersion broke a little for me (see below), which I think is extraordinary considering the 10h+ of footage and how much the plot starts to change midway through.

Since you put so much effort into creating this and me incidentally profiting so much out of it, I feel it is only fair for me to give you some detailed positive and constructive feddback, so:

Wall of text incoming…

-----The good-----
Here are a couple of things I very much enjoyed:

  • Starting the first episode with the arrival of Danaerys and ending it with Arya leaving works even better than the original.
  • Really glad you kept Littlefingers Trial, I read it was completely edited out in other fanedits, but I thought it was too cool a scene not to keep.
  • Repurposing Varys to actually be a good counselor, brilliant and so satisfying.
  • The Tyrion/Qyburn scene in E05 in front of the wall works suprisingly well considering the footage available and makes the following conversation with Tyrion/Cercei fit quite well within the plot.
  • The repurposing of Danaerys/Tyrion scene at the beginning of E06 makes sense in this context, considering it had a completely different meaning originally, although a bit immersion breaking specially because of Danys crackhead makeup.
  • Placing the conquering Kings Landing plot before the Night King invasion is brilliant and makes the story work very well.
  • Deleting the Mad Queen scenes in the last episodes, specially the one burning Kings Landing randomly: I always felt it was poorly written and out of character despite everything she lost at that point, why wouldnt she go for the red keep first? didn’t make sense to me.
  • Repurposing Danys speech after the Kings Landing war to motivate her army to go north, suits the story perfectly.
  • Danys army entering Winterfell after defeating Cercei and rescuing Jon is so satisfying, making reference to the very first episode of the entire series, works even better than the original, just chills.
  • Deleting the plot of Jon “having” to tell his family that he is Aegon, always felt too rushed.
  • Cutting the Great War into 2 parts, with the slower beginning in the following episode works great.
  • In E10: Repurposing the amazing Dany/Iron Throne scene with the chilling music, keeping the Stark montage (this scene is just too perfect not to include and works very well) and repurposing Jons ending to leave with Dany, brilliant and so satisfying.

To leave some constructive feedback in case you would ever consider reediting some samll scenes or someone else reads this and feels inspired to (one can only hope XD):

-----The not so bad-----
Immersion breaking scenes for me:

  • S07E05 Scene where Jon decides to go north: the Cercei bit actually works exceptionally well, but as people have mentioned it isn’t very clear what they’re on about with going North until Dany says “Kill the Nightking” but even then it’s a bit confusing because she says it in Valyrian, whereas the others never mention it. The only thing I could think of that could fix that is the “Capture the Wight” plot, but dont know how well that would work with all the Dragonpit scenes and plot pacing etc. and wasn’t such a good plot anyways. But defintely not a dealbreaker since the editing was done very well, someone first time watching could even think it was their own fault for not paying enough attention during the whole conversation.
  • S07E06 Beginning scene with Dany/Tyrion “It doesnt matter now”: just felt a little bit off, but I think this has more to do with me knowing the original context, and don’t see a way it can be improved any further. Definately still better having it included in your edit as it favors the story and is needed for context.
  • S07E10 Dany Throne & Dragon ride scenes: This was probably the more immersion breaking scene for me, cause they kiss in one scene and suddenly you see them flying (with the over the top CGI), doesn’t fit quite well with the slower pacing of the previous scene. Still better than not having it of course. I was thinking if there was a way to switch to a slower paced scene and then to this one, I think that could solve it. One scene I was thinking about is the one where Jon leaves Kings Landing at the end of S08E06 and parts ways from the other starks, also fits perfectly storywise saying farewell to his family (or whats left of em 😦 ). The farewell conversation would have to be edited a bit though, since they mention the nightswatch and castle black. I actually liked the idea of Arya venturing into the West to dicover new continents (allusion to the European Age of Discovery).

-----And The Ugly (wat?) AKA Small impovements (IMHO)-----
Things I would have added/kept from the original:

  1. S07E04 Danaerys/John scene when talking about loosing and asks Jon “what would you do?”: As she doesnt go mad in the end it works as yet another counsel she takes for later down the road and I love seeing Danaerys starting to trust Jon more, asking him at this point “even” for military counsel.

  2. S07E05 The fermented crab scene (Davos/Tyrion/Gendrys way back from Kings Landing): only adds to the story and pacing, would have left the scene where it was. Your E05 is only 63min long, and in the original there are several episodes well over 70 even 80min long, so wouldn’t really worry about episode length. 😃

  3. S07E06 Benjen rescue scene: it just works better plotwise, but can understand your Ex Machina reasoning, I felt similar first time I saw it. Still works better storywise beaucause of the horse etc.

  4. S08E04 Jon Speech at the Great War Burial: I would leave the scene as it is and add only Jamies death there, as the structuring of the original was perfect as was the speech, specially the focus on Jon which we lost here a tiny bit because of the restructuring, still great though. I would use Sam and Brienn for later on (see below).

  5. S08E04 Dany Making Gendry Lord after the great war: I think it could close Gendrys arc nicely (now that I think about it probably would also leave the Arya/Gendry scene, it was a bit weird but its war, let Arya and the poor lad enjoy something on their last night before certain doom XD ).

  6. S07E10 Bran warg into Arya: This is just a minor thing, but I personally would have left it out, it never bothered me in the first place that Arya got the final blow, she has been training to be an assassin for 7 seasons and Bran gave HER the Valyrian Dagger so he had a bit of influence there, having it planned all along since he supposedly knows what’s gonna happen.

  7. S08E06 Dany/Jon throne scene: Somehow felt like the bit where Dany says “Be with me. Build the nwe world with me. THis is our reason…” could be included somehow, but is probalby quite complicated to pull off. Can’t shake the feeling that it somehow still fits well within the plot, but may be totally wrong here. XD

  8. S08E06 Brienne writing in Book about Jaimie: If Brienne is left alive (see above) she could still extend Jamies entry which was a beautiful scene for concluding the Jamie/Brienne arc. Would put this probably before the next scene below as in the original.

  9. S08E06 Tyrion Hand Scene at the council: One would “only” have to edit out the Bran scene (which doesn’t contribute much anyways) and make it seem as if Brienne walked in halfway through. I feel like this scene would add a lot of closure to the Kings Landing/Crown plot since it could kinda implies that the council is reigning now (or sth similar), making allusion to the Age of Enlightenment and better governance effectively breaking the wheel.
As for the people sitting there:
9.1. in this scenario Tyrion never ceases to be Hand which is perfect
9.2. Davos as Master of ships is perfect
9.3. Brienne sitting at the table is well deserved.
9.4. I see your point about Sam as Grandmaester: but he has nevertheless killed the first White Walker (and one of only 3 people who managed to kill one, incidentally also discovering the effectiveness of Dragonglass), joined the Nightswatch, found a cure for an almost incurable disease while no Maester in the Citadel dares to and always has a curious and open mind, which is certainly needed at such council, (compared to the stubborness of the maesters in the citadel or the jackasses that preceded him) and is “well” known among the others making him more trustworthy.
9.5. Bronn is the least deserving of his position but I can live with that, he was just very well connected through the whole series and played his cards to perfection.
9.6. Varys is not here unfortunately but I would still see a great benefit adding the scene plotwise even without the Master of Whispers, for the viewer he could just be doing his usual business around town.

  10. Also thought if there’s any way of including bits of the dragonpit Lords gathering where they say that “From now on rulers will not be born they will be chosen…”, sounds great in my mind but is probably too difficult to pull off since Tyrion is seen in chains most of the time, IDK maybe with some voiceover without seeing him or only when we see his head? XD

  11. S08E04 Jon/Sam Goodbye: With Sam being alive, the Jon/Sam Farewell scene could be added at the end with Tormunds scene.

  12. Additional montage scene: Probably sounds a bit ambitious but since we are already talking about edits, feedback and giving the series the best ending we can, given the footage, why not? 😄 . Scene: A montage made out of different beautiful and peaceful shots from several parts of the realms (probably taken from different seasons) showing the new time of peace and hope, using the Sountrack from “GOT S04 - 13 You Are No Son of Mine” (the last 86s or 166s or just parts of it, whatever would work best), gives the viewer time to pause, enjoy the beautiful landscapes/scenery and reflect on the epic journeys, everything that was lost, but also what was achieved through an insurmountable amount of hard work, pain and suffering (probably not too dissimilar from reediting a shitty ending and making it beautiful and satisfying 😉).

  13. The additional changes for the end would extend the final episode even further, but I love the idea of having a long last final episode almost feature film-like, to give closure to as much arcs as possible to one of the best shows ever made (again finally). For me 1.5h+ would be perfect.

Let me know what you think, if any of this made any sense to you.
Again superb effort, I admire and respect your work and can’t thank you enough for creating this. Thank you so much!!

PS: Out of curiosity what video editing tool did you use? Maybe at some point I find time to learn to edit videos a bit better and could try sth out. Am a complete noob though tried with avidemux with little success in making seamless transitions and overlaying audio etc.
