for what it's worth.... a placeholder for the OT on blu-ray has been posted at amazon

Thus will HD-DVD's "Matrix trilogy" exclusive seem like so many small potatoes.

The Matrix had a placeholder on Amazon way before HD-DVD launched, and that was over a year ago, so Star wars has probably a year or more before any announcement.

Suffering build character. Well have to scour for extremely, end-all-be-all substandard DVD for at least 30 years, while Lucas continues to change it every 5 minutes. At least DVD's last forever, unless these have been made from VHS film molded into DVD. It would be better if SW never existed at all, for it has caused more pain in the last ten years than anything else in human history. Keep your shitty 80's TV's, folks.

Since it is fitting to the topic, I saw an HD-DVD ad on StarWars.com the other day. Not that it is odd to see ads on there, but A) the ad was actually in an article (not on the homepage) so it was allowed to be placed there and B) I was thinking that LFL would only allow certain advertisers, ones they agree with and support to take up such "prime real estate"...

...but then it is LFL after all so I am probably off, and we all know it is always the $ before the product.

Yes, and remembering that it's LFL and not Fox they can advertise whatever they want there.

Didn't Lucas say he would only give us a release off all 6 movies at once with blue-ray?

A Goon in a Gaggle of 'em

I think he did....but he'll prolly stuff them all on one disc and call it convenience.

Hey look, a bear!

Thta's the reason we are in a perpetual vortex of despair. The amazon reviews of SW related DVD really makes me depressed. I would definitely buy "legal bootlegs" if those reviews didn't exist.

Yeah, my Blu-ray comment was mostly about the fact that Fox is exclusively supporting Blue-ray. I doubt Star Wars will be released on it anytime soon.

Lucas will wait until the next format after Blu-Ray to release the SW trilogy, and then wait another five years until they decide to release the OOT on Blu-Ray, with state of the art technology-from 2004, which could be 35 years old by then.

Not to be rude, but it is Blu-Ray not Blue-Ray.

Hey, anyone know whatever happened that ferris guy? He used to post all the time, but man, he hasn't been on the board for months. Seems like he just disappeared or something.

Yes, and as you can see from my quote, I typed it out right the first time and the second was merely a lapse of attention. Also, you're not supposed to capitalize the R in "Blu-ray."

Anyways, this will still be yet another updated version of the SE

Yet no one's gotten around to starting another petition. Let's wait until CIV and then decide whether or not we'll need to.

It might not be the last ten years that's done it, although seeing the original versions in 35mm would've been nice. Even '04 and '05 were pretty good for me so far as Star Wars goes.

The last year, that took its toll.

The GOUT is what would've been better off not existing. It's the lowest LFL has ever stooped. That said, it's not like the OOT is the only non-anamorphic release out there. Let us not forget the R1 releases of The Graduate. Nevertheless this is Star Wars, the most popular film series ever, and when LFL is shameless enough to put out something like the GOUT I just shake my head and ask why.

Ive posted this point as a thread in the off topics section for debate but for those who are getting exited about a 'possible' Blu-ray release then consider this, here is a comparison of DVD resolutions (720x480) with the maximum Hi-definition picture (1920x1080=1020i) as well as the maximum digital cinema resolution (4096x2160) against the maximum Hi Def Video currently in development by NHK in Japan (this transfers to an astonishing 200 GB per min of video per min i think).

With the rate technology is currently advancing i ask if its really worth being at the cutting edge of technology at this given time?

You make a very good point. They can always increase the available resolution. I suppose the question is what is found acceptable by the end user and what displays are affordable. I say that 1920x1080 is very good for home viewing. Some other people even believe that 720x480i (DVD resolution) is totally acceptable already.

In terms of that particular picture itself, it's 970x673 in reality, and each those displayed resolutions are merely shown to scale. Therefore the detail you see in that image is, in actuality, about half as good as 1920x1080.

Digital Cinema resolution is about what you'd want if you were building a display the size of an ordinary movie theater screen, but for most smaller home displays, 1920x1080 (the higher HDTV resolution) is more than enough. In fact, if your TV is small enough, you probably won't notice any increase in quality with 1920x1080p over 1280x720p (the lower HDTV resolution).

Digital Cinema is stuck at 2K anyway right now. In regards to technology stepping up, I recently read over at thedigitalforum that Van Ling was quoted as saying that the Abyss will not recieve an anamorphic transfer until its high def release. In regards to Star Wars, well, I don't think we should have to wait until any later than 2008 to get our anamorphic OOT. Whether or not we'll have to is another matter.

The OOT will forever be stuck in the analog age, and Lucas will make sure to the end thatit stays this way.
