Translation: We are getting LEGAL bootleg quality we already have.

Fuck him, I just don't care anymore. Lucas has totally turned me off as a diehard OT fan, and you know what is coming in a couple years:

"Due to popular demand, The O-OT on DVD fully restored."

What can we do anymore, the man is the Emperor and doesn't give a shit about anything but himself.

Goodbye Mr. Lucas.

I agree totally. Thanks for ruining one of my favorite movies (and all of the memories that go with them) of all time, Georgie!

They showed some examples straight from the DVD and the film looks exactly like those bootlegs out there of the laserdiscs. A little washed out, pixelated and strobey.

I know of at least one "fan restoration project" that won't be "a little washed out, pixelated and strobey".....
MeBeJedi, may the force be with you......we need you now, more than ever.

Thank you for all your hard work this summer....my wife's a HS Math teacher, so I know how important your summers are.....

P.S. Off the subject of Star Wars,....aren't you glad you don't teach at a all year around school? My wife would go bonkers.....summer vacation is as much for the teachers as it is for the students.....

I love everybody. Lets all smoke some reefer and chill. Hug and kisses for everybody.

He softening. Don't give up yet. God willing, the restoration will come down the pike, and soon. And the bashing of fans of the OOT on the forums of that website borders on frightening.

For public exhibition, what type of screen did they display these video clips on?

Maybe I'm being hopelessly optimistic, but maybe it made it seem worse than it is.

My stance on revising fan edits.

It is not the point of giving up, it is just so deflating, it almost isn't worth getting that mad over anymore, because the guy is such a douchebag now, I am almost at the point of, "OK, when you do remaster it the right, send me an email, other than that don't do this halfass release."

It such a shame cause Lucas has turned moderate fans like me into a fan that hates the creator now, plain & simple. Everytime he tries to tie the sagas, he keeps pushing me away. I enjoyed the PT movies, of course they are not nearly as great as the OT, or will I ever love them nearly as much either, but I never got mad at Lucas for the underwhleming at times PT movies like many fans did.

But in 2004, when he just put out the SE on DVD, that is when he turned me from a Lucas defender, to a Lucas basher for ruining the OT by putting Hayden in ROTJ. That change alone keeps me from every popping in ROTJ SE, cause it is just so bad it is insulting to take out an actor who is dead now in real life, Sebastian Shaw, and put in Hayden as some gimmick to tie the trilogies that Lucas couldn't do while writing them. This is a gimmick to tie the trilogies, plain & simple, this has nothing to do with vision, or Lucas would have put some 20 year old actor in there in 1983!

Because of Lucas treatment of the O-OT, he has actually turned me off from the PT now, cause now I blame the PT for all these stupid changes cause Lucas keeps tinkering to make them the saga now. So this will never end as each release will feature some new tie-in on one of the OT movies that references the PT, and that is not appealing to me at all.

I know many here hate the PT, and I can't argue with anyone in that respect, cause I don't understand your hatred, but if Lucas would have kept the saga the same all these years: PT + O-OT = Every DVD set, then I think I would be a fan of all 6 movies, and just love the OT more. But now I am an O-OT fan who hates the SE & gets mad at the PT cause Lucas keeps trying to tie it to the OT with more changes.

I can't believe I feel this way towards my 3 favorite movies of all-time, it is a true slap in the face by our beloved creator.

Well, the Original, Unaltered Trilogy is getting abused. No question about it. But I'm not going to let Lucas' petty crap ruin my fandom. Those movies grew far beyond him and the SE footage was a pathetic attempt to reclaim them as entirely his. Why doesn't he just remake all three movies with himself playing every part and hire a bunch of goons to go door to door and destroy every last copy of the OUT?

Unfortunately, this is going to be the last release of the OOT ever. Hopefully these werent made on cheap DVr's and hopefully they won't disintegrate in a few months

I agree. However, perhaps this will open his eyes some. I think that Lucas has his eyes on this release, and I think that he is watching very closely. This seems to be a test, and I hope that it passes his muster. One never knows. I agree about the PT. I don't think that is up to par with the originals by any means, but it is nevertheless fun in places. The problem is that it is the core of the issue with the SEs.

I doubt that. He is money hungry. Either we will be getting decent film transfers on the uber boxset or a couple years later.

I love how Sansweet acts like an insider: "The script for Indiana Jones 4 is blah blah" like they tell him anything. He reads the same internet shit we do. They have a pathetic trailer for these dvds that's like what Disney uses to sell Bambi II to fat moms and their fat kids. Even as Fox restores the shit out of Towering Inferno and Poseidon Adventure, they put out this thing .

Does anyone by chance have the hyperspace trailer for these discs. I want to see the trailer. Knowing LFL, on the trailer they probably used the film masters, jsut to piss us off.

I would love to see the trailer too. And I can't find the images of the DVD's on AICN.com.

I very, very, very, very much doubt that this will be the last release of the OOT.

Perhaps they should stop wastin money on the trailers and the "who shot first" (Han, you morons) cards and actually spend the money on the release.

That is the sad thing, because I am convinced this won't cause Lucas never sticks to his words. That is the problem with all SW releases on DVD these days, it is a guessing game, and that is unfair to the consumer, because it forces you to possibly buy something cause it 'may never be released again', but then in the same breath says, "Due to popular demand......"

I don't mind when studios re-release DVD's with more bonus material (deleted scenes, documentaries, extra trailers), that is something that a fan can buy if they want more of something they love. But what Lucas is doing is putting out something that is not high quality so if he does put out something in Anamorphic next time, you have to buy it cause it is better quality.

I have lost total respect for the man.

I too keep hoping that the restored OOT which will hopefully get released at some point before I die will be in the 30th anniversary boxed set, but it seems too good to be true.

BINGO! You summed up my feelings exactly, CO. The man does nothing but lie and I am getting sick and tired of being forced into playing into it all. You can take your "Limited edition never ever ever going to be seen again!" gimmick and shove it up your a**, Georgie! We heard it before and you went back on your word every single time (with the exception of the "Faces" VHS tapes; little did we know that WAS the last time we would see our beloved OOT [before 09/12/06...11 years later!!!]).

But on the same token, if you would be releasing a QUALITY product on 09/12, I would gladly march into the store with my money in hand and you wouldn't hear a peep out of me. Yes, I would still be a little ticked that you decided to treat the OOT with little respect by making it the bonus disc and still focusing on the SE, but I could easily live with that.

I can respect the opinions of those that said "just hang in there" but for how long? Another 11 years from now when Lucas needs to milk the SW cash cow one last time? No thanks...

I must admit that I am so torn right now! A part of me says that it will come out one day, a part doesn't. A part says there will be something great released in '07 and this is just to test the waters (and clean out the SE reserves; I agree with those that said in other threads that they probably have a lot of left overs), a part of me says we will get these same crappy OOT transfers (if at all) in any boxed set George would put out...

I think it's the principles that drive me nuts more than anything else. They aren't some cult films like "Ferris Bueler's Day Off" "A Christmas Story," or "Dirty Dancing." The original Star Wars is one of the most important, influencial, popular and acclaimed movies of all-time and is treated like just some silly sci-fi film. Citizen Kane, Snow White, Gone With the Wind and the Wizard of Oz are among the few films that are in the same league as Star Wars. And then you have The Empire Strikes Back, considered by many to be the best SW film ever (and very few fans would rank it lower than #2) which was the first blockbuster sequel, had the most famous plot twist in film history AND ensured that all future SW films would be Blockbusters.

So basically George Lucas is rewriting film history and erasing the original versions from public consciousness. I would guess that the millions of people who purchased the SE VHS and/or the 2004 DVD versions, probably haven't watched the O-OT since before 1997! That's very unfortunate.
George Lucas was seduced by the dark side. The OOT ceased to exist in his mind and became the Special Editions...." "They're more maching now than movies. Twisted and evil."

Agreed Lucas has just lost ALL respect from me both as a film-maker, and a person. He's become the real-life Citizen Kane....

BUT there is a way to get what we want, without paying AGAIN for it, or getting shafted when he gets hard up and decides to release them on Blu-Ray or HD-DVD afterall - just HIRE them out!!! (then do what you WANT with them ;-) )

That's exactly what I intend on doing. I get to see the original films from the LD master, rather then the LDs, AND Lucas gets no more of my hard earned (unless he releases these properly further down the line). I urge others to do the same thing. Rent, but don't buy. Have also added my opinions to the UK Amazon website.

Cheers!

Yes, but Lucas is the core of this. There are plenty of people, like Robert A. Harris who want to restore the bloody things.

No, he never does.

Well, Mielr, optimist that I am, at this point, I'm prepared to believe it. This just keeps getting better and better!

I know, it's just that we have no idea of how they were displayed, what equipment was used, etc. Any DVD can looked 'washed out and pixelated' if it's displayed badly. All of this just makes me that much more anxious to see these DVDs.
