Are you discussing with yourself now?

Rather than editing my original post to include my extra commentary, I made each segment its own comment, because

I don’t know how strongly george really feels about it though. At one point yes he definitely seemed to, but more recently it seemed to be more of him just not caring enough to spend the money to restore it.

I’m betting on Occam’s Razor, and that the answer is simply “He doesn’t care”

Im definitely going with the notion that he doesn’t care at this point. He said in an interview a few years ago, IIRC it may have been around the time the BDs came out, something to the effect ‘Its gonna cost millions, and I mean millions of dollars to restore it and I just dont wanna spend that kind of money on something I dont think is that good’. So he definitely seems to have transitioned somewhat away from ‘It doesnt exist anymore’. So honestly combining that with the fact that his story treatments for Episode VII were ultimately not used as well as the John Landis quote I dont really think he’s the obstacle. I mainly still keep hope it may happen someday because we still technically have not gotten a proper yes/no since the sale back in 2012. At least when George was in charge he was upfront about it.

Slashfilm and Birthmoviesdeath both reported on Bill Hunt’s update from Friday today. They are, of course, jumping to conclusions based on what was technically just pure speculation. The o-neg is not the end all be all. As some have pointed out, they could scan the pieces separately and cut everything together in the computer. But even that is beside the point since they could still use other sources for the unaltered versions.

The most likely scenario to me?

If it happens at all, I think Disney will finally put out the original versions on blu-ray this year but maybe wait until after 2020 to put any of the first six movies out on 4k UHD. For starters, it is too early for them to put out such a high-profile catalogue title on such a new format (yes, I realize Harry Potter begs to differ). It would be milking, plain and simple, and would piss off the not-insignificant number of people who just upgraded their hardware and would probably love to own an unaltered Star Wars in full 4k. BUT, this is a rock and a hard place situation for Disney.

Keeping in mind that the movies were already released on blu-ray six years ago, and a surprisingly large amount of people probably don’t care about the changes (not as much as we do), it would be seen as a nice “here you are in the meantime” gesture. The vast majority of people also haven’t upgraded their hardware to 4k. It would be like when the GOUT was released, only not nearly as bad.

Disney will probably put out TFA and RO on 4k in the meantime. I’m reminded of how TPM was the first Star Wars movie to hit dvd, more than two years after its theatrical release. Then AotC’s dvd was day-and-date with the vhs. Meanwhile, the only mass-market video format you could watch the OT on was still vhs. Lucas wanted to wait until after RotS hit theaters to put out the OT on dvd. Wiser heads prevailed, but it looks like that actually will be what happens with the OT in regards to 4k and the ST simply because of when Fox’s rights to the other five movies expire.

Yes, those guys are definitely jumping to conclusions big time.

Weird it’s only Jedi. Mysterious and exciting.

I believe it’s a listing mistake made autonomously. A big leak of what’s to come I believe

Evidence? Or speculation?

Could also be a troll.

If it were a troll, then all of the films in the trilogy would be labeled as the theatrical cuts.

You’re confused. Re read my replies carefully.

My only evidence is as follows. The title and the run time have been altered to appear as though it’s a product listing for the original version of the film.

I see it, yes. I was asking if you had evidence as to the reason it’s listed as such.

The special edition is two minutes longer due to the added scenes
On the Amazon listing, the film is listed of having a run time of 2 hours and 14 minutes, which is the length
of the theatrical cut. This is more than an accidental title alteration

Well, holy shit. It’s happening.

I’m sorry for the fast commenting but I am 100% convinced that THE films are coming

I just checked my discs in case I was mistaken and I was. Harmys grindhouse scan has a length of 2 hours and a little over 11 minutes whilst the Special Edition is in fact 2 hours and 14 minutes. My excitement caused me to be careless and type info that wasn’t correct. However, I know for a fact that the (theatrical version) tag was recently added to Jedi in that Amazon listing.
