Haha, nope.

I know people - IRL - who like all (8) episodes. I’m not even making that up.

edit: but the way I wrote it might be interpretated as “every single mainstream customer” whereas I was more thinking “some customers”.

What.

Vader is a genocidal psychopath who has killed untold numbers of people beings. He’s a horrible person, he’s the main villain in two films, and his redemption in the last film is seen by the audience through Luke’s eyes. We are happy for Luke a million times more than we are happy for his father.

But if you come at the story from Episode 1-3 first, those fans seem to see everything through Anakin’s perspective. Most or all of those fans like Star Wars and Empire the least in the entire series, because it’s when their little baby is doing things they don’t like him doing. They can’t wait to get back to his redemption. They aren’t happy for Luke at the end of Jedi, they are happy for the guy in the black mask.

It’s a completely different story. One that I would argue is patently false and insincere, by the way.

I’m sure you do. You said it as a blanket statement, as if people only dislike the PT because they are too into Star Wars, whereas average people really liked it.

Was it ever established in the OT that Vader was a genocidal psychopath like Hitler? Sure he was the bad guy and we saw him kill a few people, but I don’t recall any discussion of the vast number of people he wiped out. If anything, Tarkin was that guy.

Most stores only sell the PT and OT separately anyway. Also, it tended to be the SW fans that defended the PT when it came out. They weren’t beloved by the masses.

Why were the rebels rebelling? Maybe they didn’t like Vader and the Emperor’s tax plans?

Other than the fact that he betrayed and murdered the other Jedi, killed untold numbers of his men onscreen–who knows how many died in the asteroid field-- I guess there is some room for interpretation, but I think it’s pretty clear he’s a really really bad dude.

There’s a difference between a bad dude and Hitler.

Sony stated why they didn’t use the newly remastered mixes for the CD release that coincided with the digital collection. They said and I paraphrase “Younger generations grew up on the SE scores so we decided to use the SE mixes for the CD release” youtube.com/watch?v=YuH7uznb2bU. But now I guess they decided to release the original soundtracks for streaming. I think this is a sign of cool things to come bois

Young people love compact discs.

And the 2012 Bond collection IIRC (left a space for Skyfall).

I think at this point they’d be more inclined to release each trilogy separately.

Or each film separately. If they were actually inclined to do any of this, maybe they would release SW for the anniversary. It’s not like Fox’s rights are ever going to expire, so it doesn’t matter if they do it now or later. For the sequels, obviously it would be in Disney’s best interest to hold off. But by the 40th anniversary of Empire, things will obviously be looking better for them there. And then they can get people to buy or rebuy box sets, etc.

And again for a 2015 set (the same one but it had Skyfall and a new empty space for SPECTRE). That’s the set I have.

A thought just occurred to me. If the OOT is released, would they put the “Legends” banner on it and stick with the SE’s as canon?

Is there anything in OUT that conflicts with “official” canon?

Besides, despite all the shit we’ve endured, I’d trust Lucasfilm not to tarnish their masterpieces with silly banners like that.

Well, “officially,” Greedo shot first. Each of the changes is “official canon,” even though it really doesn’t matter unless the specific altered scenes are referenced in later movies or books.

I don’t mean that they’d put the banner on the movie itself or slap it over the crawl, but I honestly wouldn’t mind it on the box art (or, if a set including SE and OUT is released, on the OUT discs and/or on the menu screen).

Why would they need to put a disclaimer on the box?

The Person in Question

That might only be for the publishing division to worry about.

Have the Tartakovsky clone wars or the Ewok movies been re-released in any way since 2014? Like, even as a digital download? I could maybe see them slapping it on the poster that you see on the “buy/rent” screen and mayyyyybe on the cover of a physical dvd case, but that kind of stuff (including the animated 80’s shows) seem of little consequence to the new canon.

Author

Pretty much all that stuff is out of print at this point (and so is going for lots of money on ebay I’m sure).

Putting a “Legends” banner on the OOT would be like putting a “Legends” banner on the novelizations of the first six films, which they aren’t doing.

Not to mention Pablo Hidalgo’s twitter exchange where someone asked if the OOT is still canon except where the SE contradicts and he said “I guess. It’s never really come up.”

Author
Time

I don’t think there are really any canon issues with the SE and OOT. There really isn’t anything consequential changed as far as the “saga” goes.

They might do each film separately. A theatrical showing of ANH for the 40th Anniversary and a BD/digital release to tie in with Episode VIII, Empire to tie in with the Han Solo spinoff, and Jedi to tie in with Episode IX. If its done this way I can picture the possibility of them including multiple versions of the movies.

Here’s something weird.

New soundtracks on iTunes, copyright Lucasfilm 2017. Have artwork that matches the digital movie download art, but are OUT track listings:

Star Wars
Empire
Jedi

Also note they use the new preferred naming conventions, dropping the episode number from the title.

iTunes also offers the OUT soundtracks with original art, but they are copyright '77, '80, and '04 (weird, I know)

Edit: also, no mention of Sony in the copyright garble as is the case with the older versions.
Edit2: there are also new versions for the PT, but with the same track listing, just different art. Both remain available on iTunes.
