Why do you care so much about the '97 SE?

Because it is the only proper (self-contained) special edition of the trilogy at the moment. Because it is not infested with PT parasites.

 Just serious answers, please.

It is very serious. You just don't get the point.

No, you don't get this: SW is not only what you want think it is. There are and there will always be different editions, and they're not as bad as you desperately want them to be. Just get over it

Actually you don't get it... it has nothing to do with whether the changes are "bad" or "good".  And it's not about what any of us want.  It's about preserving art and cultural history.  That means all versions of the movies, especially the originals that won all those Academy awards.

where exactly did I say that the original theatrical versions shouldn't be released?

I said that AT LEAST both the original and the 2011 editions must be in a new remastered box set.

And I told mister imperialscum that is pointless to say that "1997 are the only proper special edition". They're not.

Do you get it now??

That's not how it went. You asked me why do I care for 1997 SE. I gave you my reason. And then you told me that "SW is what is creator says it is" and that I should "just get over it". So basically you told me (in a classic childish Lucas-gusher manner) to submit to Lucas and his attempt to erase other versions from the history.

Simple solution: Blade Runner 'em. Release the original, '97, '04, and '11 versions of the movie. The '04 and '11 versions really don't need any extra work done in order to be included.

A few more BDs will drive the price up, but Star Wars fans are pretty reliable when it comes to purchasing Star Wars sets of just about any price, so this doesn't matter too much.

My manner was childish?

Said the guy whining with foolish denial: 1997 versions are the best edition of the trilogy "becuse it is not infested with PT parasites". I'm waiting to hear you say "Lucas you evil, you ruined my childhood".

It is childish to pretend that a version you don't like doesn't exist, or worse to say that the one you like is the "proper one", without any objective reason.

I want the classic trilogy in its best representation, which is a proper HD transfer struck from appropriate digital scan, and I want it for BOTH the original and the 2011, not just for an intermediate version which was improved twice. Future blu-ray releases should please all fans, not just retro-fags like you.

I agree, but '11 versions need remasters too...

I will.

But then tell mr. know-it-all to respect everyone's opinion, and not to call ignorant or childish the ones who don't think like him.

In what way? Isn't the '90s-looking CGI, waxy DNR look, and terrible color grading all part of GL's original vision for Star Wars?

There is no "90's-looking" CGI in the '11..  nor DNR. The problem of those blu-rays are the old masters. Lucas had them scanned years ago, they would benefit from a new 4k scan for sure.

Isn't the only CGI they really improved (in 04) the Jabba scene? I agree that the things added newly in '11 don't look like they were rendered in the 90s, though they don't look great.

The Sarlacc still looks like fairly dreadful smooth, plasticy 90's CGI. It looks like a cutscene from a Playstation or Dreamcast game. Some of the Tatooine creatures look pretty bad as well, but better than the Sarlacc.

Yeah, like 90% of the CG is from the 90s. The only shots I'm aware of that aren't 90s are the door at Jabba's palace, the new R2 rock + new equipment shooting out of him in Jedi, and I guess the ewok blinking. The 04 Jabba was the TPM model from 1999, and I think the Sebulba thing in Jabba's Palace was also from the Phantom Menace (it looks like it) but I could be wrong on that.

It's not Sebulba, but the Dug who complained about Anakin's driving in AOTC.

Where were you in '77?

Oh my goodness! I've never seen the blu rays, so I've only just seen a couple low rez frames of that change a few years ago, and that looks TERRIBLE! Oh man... I think it's worse than the 97 CGI in Mos Eisley. Positively shocking...

Anyway, even the CGI added in 2011 was 10 years outdated

Since when a preference is a "foolish denial"?

Stop making things up. I don't pretend the versions I don't like don't exist. Nor do I propagate the idea that some versions shouldn't be released (unlike you).

You want only original and 2011 to be released and at the same time you want all fans to be pleased? What kind of paradox is that.

Well I guess we can't all be modern and straight.

Telling me that I should "just get over it" when I said I like 1997 versions really isn't an opinion. It is disrespecting my opinion and therefore childish.

You didn't just say you like those versions, you said they're the right ones, while the other ones are rubbish.

You asked why I care so much for 1997 and I gave you my reason. And the reason is that they are the only proper self-contained SE out there. By self-contained I mean that they don't have references to some other non-relevant films (i.e. to PT). OT has been designed to stand on its own and did most successfully stand on its own for many years. PT is an optional back-story therefore people should not be imposed with PT references in OT if they choose to ignore PT. That is why 1997 SE is important as it is just an enhancement of the original versions. However for those who do care about PT there is 2011 version with all the PT stuff in it.

"non-relevant films"  ...."optional" back-story??

I wonder why we are even discussing...........

By the way, there are references to the PT in the 1997 versions too (celebrations in the ROTJ finale, remember?).

I wonder if Disney will release the unaltered versions for DVD and blue ray

I know I’ve made some very poor decisions recently.

That was the 2004 version.  There were no PT references in 1997 because it wasn't in existence yet.

Not strictly true.  The Coruscant shot was in the 1997 special edition minus the Jedi temple.
