OKAY, OBVIOUSLY I'M USING A MAC. I MADE A CRAWL WITH RELATIVE EASE. I'LL POST A LINK TOMORROW TO IT. MINE IS IN 16x9 ANAMORPHIC WIDESCREEN. I EVEN ADDED THE FOX FANFARE AND OPENING STAR WARS THEME TO IT. I USED QT PRO TO MAKE THE "ANIMATION" WHICH I THEN IMPORTED INTO iMOVIE HD. FROM THERE I ADDED IN THE MUSIC. I SAVED IT AS A QT MOVIE. I WAS ABLE TO GET THE SIZE DOWN TO JUST UNDER 10MB.

AH, HELL, HERE'S THE LINK.

Could you post a still? I'm not sure what 24mb will show me that 300k won't...

I must admit. I have used it and integrated a crawl into my own copy of 'Returning to Jedi'.

Just doesn't have that 'star wars' feel. Kinda sterile looking. - yes, I looked the videos too. It's a good idea but the quality is lacking IMO. Anyone got any professional looking results out of this thing?

I don't mean to put you guys down, My comments are directed toward the software here.

I totally agree. The only part I might ever use would be the opening fanfare. I just think it's geeky cool that there's someone out there putting energy into writing a freeware app like this. I'll stick with Rebel_1138's crawl work myself!

Thanks for the compliment MA. I saw the results that were posted here and I must say it's great that someone has put so much time and effort into making it possible for anyone to get a title crawl made for their fan films. It has inspired me to write a tutorial on how to make the crawls. The main problem is that my projects suffer from something akin to the Y2K dilemma. I started making them one way and over time improved on them by simply adding to what I already had instead of starting fresh. It would be more time consuming than anything else to go through it and strip it down to only what is really relevant. Then of course the question would be what crawl should make the tutorial for. Ep I? II? III? IV? V? VI? They're all different and require specific tweaking to get them to look like the films they are supposed to emulate. Maybe when I get inclined enough and have the time I'll sit down and try to hammer one out.

One other thing I just thought of. My tutorial would require Adobe After Effects and Illustrator or Photoshop. I know that not everyone can afford these programs, so is there any interest in even having me write a tutorial? I don't mean to hi-jack this thread. so maybe I'll just forget the whole thing for now.

Please write a tutorial. I have searched and searched for a good tutorial, but so far haven't found a good one.

Tutorials are plenty but great tutorials are scarce [in general]. Please do.

I wish I could work out the words for my crawl (has nothing to do with Star Wars), but yes, I've got someone waiting to help me out.

Still, I'd love to get a 20th Century Fox and Lucasfilm rip-off out of this. Does anybody with a mac think they could help me out?

I don't think I'd say no to somebody helping me out with this, either.

Actually, would any of you guys toying with this software be willing to do a single frame for me using the '20th century fox' segment? overall quality isn't a great concern I just want it done for a template to work off of and it's probably the quickest way. if anyone is then I'll let ya know what I want.

Re: the crawl, I highly recommend you guys check out this http://lsmaker.uw.hu/page.php I've been toying with the ls text program from there, and as you can see they have a handful of helpful apps.

Not that I'm being pedantic, but it's as I thought - a solid yellow. You need more elements to accurately replicate a crawl - the characters in a real crawl have some characteristic burn, and there's also a faint red drop shadow. It took me a while to understand why I couldn't match a crawl just by tweaking colours.

Unfortunately my crawl making process isn't suited to being used by others...

I've been playing with formatting paragraphs in photoshop. Then using an nvidia filter to create a nomal map of the image [the text] to give it the 3d look. then colouring that to the right shade of yellow / orange and adding a slight gaussian blur to keep things looking smooth. In any case there is more to it than simply straight 2d text.

Johnny,

If you still need someone to create the 20th century fox logo for you from this program I can help out, PM me what you want

Cheers guys, Here's what I'm after...

1st line - Nothing. I plan to add in a logo of sorts later. My main concern is the fancy angled text
2nd line - mystery - in place of century
3rd line - box - in place of fox

and no message at the bottom - I'll add something in later.

if possible it'd be great in a res of approx 800 x 450. Or something relatively colse to that if possible.

And as stated I'm only wanting 1 still frame from the end of the sequence.

Thanx in advance.

Thanks to MoveAlong for helping me out with this. I'm laughing with tears of joy. My own fancy logo.. hehehe

It is going to be interesting to see the effects of this program on future fan projects. I don't know whether this makes our projects cooler or us nerdier
