"clone wars"=PT for me

I'm currently of the opinion that the "Clone Wars" show is all the PT needed to be.

As a television series, it's automatically a different animal, and doesn't easily compare to the OT. Apples and oranges, so it avoids the unfavorable comparison the PT has going for it.

I don't need every single aspect of Anakin's and Obi's life explained. Anakin's a Jedi. Obi's his mentor. He has a secret wife. Perfect... that sets up the OT all I need.

Palpatine is Chancellor AND the Big Secret Bad Guy?! Whoa!!!! I don't need to know how Palpy got elected.

I think the show, for what it is, has succeeded at its aims far better than the PT ever did. If we didn't have the PT movies, and just this show, I bet we'd all absolutely love it and say "Great job Lucas! Too bad this isn't a trilogy of movies!"

I haven't seen it, but what you've described sounds appealing.

I'm going to start disc 2 season 1 tomorrow.  First disc was so-so, but from what I hear it gets better as it goes.

The roger roger robots and Jar Jar pretty much made me turn it off during season 1.  I tried season 2 but the palpatine machinations and the dumb cad bane boba fett ripoff was really lame.

Totally childish cartoon made for children.

It was kind of a dick move on Lucas's part to only show the beginning and end of the Clone Wars, so it's nice to have something fill the gap. Still haven't seen it though. :P

I always felt like this was what the PT should have been too. It's not perfect, being episodic some episodes are better than others, but the character interactions and the dramas are generally involving and dramatic and handled okay, and really, that's the least I was ever asking for, and certainly better than most of the PT. I think if Episode I and II were more like this, the PT would be on the OT level overall. Some of the episodes arcs in this series are just so much better than the PT that it really makes those films look bad. Okay, so the episodes are simpler than the PT films, what do you expect, they are 22 minute saturday morning cartoons, but within those parameters they accomplish quite a bit more than Episodes I and II even attempted in terms of character and drama, and thats not insignificant. Salvaging the PT story/characters is no easy feat considering where Lucas left them, but the series does it fairly admirably, which just goes to show that even with the silly plot Lucas devised, it is execution above else that makes the difference.

The Clone Wars = PT

That's true, that's why I hate it. :P

Cad Bane a rip off Boba Fett?

Bane... talked, had an evil team, kicked lots of ass.

Boba... not so much talky, worked alone, snuck around and dies in his only fight.

I just don't see it.

I thought the PT was mostly a joyless bummer.  I wasn't initially enamored of the Clone Wars either but it has grown on me and is a lot better without the commercials.  I now think that Clone Wars is fun, albeit childish fun, which I find refreshing.  I agree that the animated aspect makes it an apples/oranges thing to the OT which is good.  I think George has finally found a way to make cheap episodic serial adventures in his universe and has the good sense to leave the heavy lifting to others.  I would love to see the same team tackle a few stories in the OT era.

I too think Clone Wars is what the PT should have been.  I've found that after watching an episode, I care more about the characters than I ever did watching the prequels.  Each one (including/especially the clones) makes you feel for them.  However, they can't seem to do anything with Anakin or Padme.  They do seem to stress the good guy side of Anakin, but since it's not going to contradict Episode III, we still have to deal with the abrupt fall for no real reason.  Just goes to show how completely messed up the base is that Lucas created.

Spoiler:

Obi-wan's relationship with Satine was well executed.  It also shows that Obi-wan wasn't judging Anakin for being in love and never having experienced it, as he had the SAME choice but chose the Jedi and never looked back.  Deepens Obi-wan a whole lot, IMO
