I remember you mentioning that you would go back and redo the Kirkless Generations edit - that's why I haven't yet done a cover for it. It's nice to see you're getting round to doing it anyway.

Since our new project Blade 3 - behead the king edition is still in an extensive planning phase, we will meanwhile finally make a hq edit out of one of our finest projects so far: Star Trek Generations without J.T.Kirk. We will renew the entire intro sequence, as well as the end credits, the overall picture and sound quality will be much improved (this time in 16:9 NTSC), there will be a new showdown finale and an overworked plot, there will be new and better menus, new trailer and deleted scenes. Finally this is going to be the edit it should have always been. We also require new cover art for this one. So, if you liek Star Trek the next generation or just love SF movies and feel inspired, go ahead and create a nice cover. PM me for DVD details.

The idea: J.T.Kirk completely spoiled this movie, especially in the Nexus scenes, his death is unworthy of a legend anyway and so we decided to keep him from ever appearing in the movie. So, our GENERATIONS is just a Next Generation movie, or maybe a double episode (although we will not integrate the TV-show intro this time, we got something way better). Picard will have to face time as a predator and he alone can defeat the evil genius Dr. Soren.
The movie closes all historical gaps between "all good things" amd "First Contact".

YES!!!

KIKRLESS GENERATIONS is a pretty good title, except for that tiny town in Scotland, called Kirkless, that made googling for Kirkless generations kind of difficult.

It will be about the same edit as before anyway. I am not so sure about the languages, but I think we can keep them all. Ehm, does anyone here want hungarian or czech language?

the video edit is almost done. We made major changes to our first edit of Generations. This time there will be no flaws at all. Our finale works just great and finally you are going to see a true movie on its own. Still there is a lot to be done. The audio edit will be extensive.

Video is finished and looks great. Audio is almost done. We added music to several unscored parts that are more important in our edit than in the original movie (e.g. Picard's bridge fight with Soren).The additional music that is not from the generations o.s.t. is from first contact o.s.t. and fits perfectly. Very difficult to find was a good sound, when Picard leaves the Nexus alone (we finally decided for a stretched and sweep phasered transporter sound from Star Trek TNG moving over to a rocket starting sound from The Rock). Vibration was very important because it had to fit to the special effect we created. This can hardly be compared to our first Kirkless Generations.
We will not keep hungarian and czech audio, but English and German.
Does anyone by chance know how different language menus can be created in DVD-Lab pro where movie, trailer and chapters switch back to the main menu with the first chosen language?

Audio is finished and we did a great job. We kept all 4 languages (Eng, Ger, Cze, Hun), so the time has come for our hungarian fans (currently they fit in a telephone box all together) to finally enjoy fanedits in their native language.

The poster is also most part of the front cover art for the DVD.

For the video quality we this time made a 5-pass vbr encoding with 5500 kbps average and a peak of 9000 kbps. This should satisfy every quality maniac.

thank you booshman for the link. Very interesting way to design menus (I have all repsect for people who can handle these vm command things). It's not about what I was hoping for (creating different language menus and the movies switching back to the previous menu), but still helpful.

That link, while fully explaining what is necessary for multiple languages, is a bit overkill - unless you really want separate menus to show which language is currently selected.

If so, create each possible page, with the appropriate graphics. Say you have the main page, and the default is "English". If you want someone to choose Czech, then create a VTS command in between the two menus, switching to the appropriate language.

Once again I may have just expressed myself badly (must be my bad English). What I want:

menu1: language selection
menu2: English menu (play movie, trailer, chapters, extras)
menu3: German menu (Filmstart, Trailer, Kapitel, Extras)
menu4: Hungarian menu (I don't know any Hungarian word except for CHEERS)
menu5: Czech menu (I know as much Czech as Hungarian)
you select to play the movie from menu 2,3,4 or 5
after the movie has finished (or if you press MENU anytime) you are back in 2,3,4 or 5

got it now?

I would like to add even more languages to the movie. Does anyone have an original GENERATIONS DVD that contains more languages than ENG GER CZE HUN? Pleaser PM me asap and I will send you information on how to send me the audio files. Best would be swedish, french, spanish.

You realize you're adding on quite a bit of baggage for each language track you add, right? I forget exactly how long your edit is, but I think it's around 90 minutes. A stereo dolby track (AC-3) running 90 minutes with a bitrate of 192 kbps is about 126 megabytes in size. With the four language tracks you have, you have 500 MB worth of audio as it is.

Why not cut the less common audio tracks (HUN & CZE), and instead use foreign language subtitle tracks? You could add in 20 different languages if you wanted, and it would take very little room, compared to using all those audio tracks.

Good idea... in theory, tweaker. Of course you are absolutely right about the audio file sizes (126mb each for 224kbps). It would definetly be cool to add subtitle languages in 20 languages, BUT I can understand 2 languages: German ,English and have someone knowing Russian and 2 African dialects... For the audio it is quite simple, because I just have to add the original audio track into my video edit, using the same sound bridges as before and voila! With subtitles I have no such program to do that, to make specific cuts and time changes and do the same with another subtitle, especially because I do not understand what is written there. So, great idea, but I don't think I can work that out. And getting someone to translate line by line is far to much work for our volunteering helpers, no one will do that (remember: I didn't even get a spanish translation for the JAILBIRD cover).

I told your idea of using more subs to our text maniac member Magic Carpet and guess what: he will try to get something going there and is currently working on subtitles in English, Swedish, Norwegian, Portugesian, Spanish and Polish. He said he found them all with almost identical timecodes and will try to change each one by switching from change to change (don't know if I understood this right). But anyway, obviously we do try out new things...

That's actually even easier. The first language selection menu takes you to whichever menu you want. From each of those language menus, you put the VTS command between the menu and the movie. After pressing the play button, the VTS forces the audio selection. There is a "Return to menu" command that takes you back to the last menu you were at, so when the movie is done (or you press "Menu") you go back to the language you started from.

impressing. This sounds like it could work. I will give it a try. But there will be no hungarian or czech menu, if I don't get any help by someone who can speak these languages. thanks mebejedi. Great input.

Very nice. I understand the interest in having several different audio tracks, but that gets rather inefficient after a while. And personally, when I watch a foreign film, I prefer to use subtitles. I've never been a big fan of dubbed audio.

And I get what he's doing with the timecodes. If the timecodes in several different subtitle tracks all line up, he doesn't even need to know the languages, as long as he knows what parts of the movie your edit uses. Nice work.

unfortunately one line got lost for all texted languages but english:
"Now you'll have to excuse me, Captain. I have an appointment with eternity and I don't want to be late."
I know, it's probably the best quote of the entire movie, still it would have been a work of many hours to reinstall it. Sorry, my portugese fellows.
