another faulty memory?

I know we have many examples of faulty SW memory syndrome... Luke missing the first time with the grappler hook, for example (of which I am one of the many victims).

But I have an example from the 1997 SE that has been nagging at the back of my mind for several years, and I've finally built up the courage to ask here....

When the SE of Star Wars came out in the theater in 1997, I saw it on opening night. Somehow, I remember being surprised that the line "close the blast doors" was said by a calm woman's voice, as if it were an automated voice coming over an intercom. I also remember thinking that they must have added it that way, rather than restoring it from an original 1977 source.

I am now beginning to think that this is yet another example of faulty SW memory syndrome, because I haven't been able to find any example of the SE with anything other than the original voice that matches the original mono mix.

So, am I to presume that I am so afflicted yet again?

Definitely faulty memory.  Saw it opening day, was taken aback by the line, but it was the way it is on all subsequent releases.  Sorry, you're crazy!

Maybe you saw the mono mix, and they used a different recording of the line in that one :P

(and before anyone brings it up, yes, I am indeed an idiot)

i forget which version, but on one of them either "close the blast doors" or "open the blast doors" sounded somehow different (definitely not like a woman's voice though). Not sure if it is because they had some read it again or just the way they placed it or cleaned it up or something.

Maybe you're thinking of Star Trek III? (There's an automated female P.A. voice saying "space doors are closed" etc. when they steal the ship.)

Haha! That's a very clever thought. But no, it must be a faulty memory. What's strange is that I remember waiting for that moment, and then being very surprised, and specifically thinking that they must have been unable to find the original voice, and so they stuck something in. Now that seems very silly, but I still can't explain it.

I remember Luke screaming (a la Conan or something) upon catching his Lightsaber in the Sailbarge scene of ROTJ.

I even remember asking my dad, "Why did he scream when he caught the lightsaber?" and my dad surmising that it must have hurt catching it after R2 flung it through the air.

My theory is that I conflated--at the time, mind you--the catching shot and the shot where he winces in pain upon being blasted in the wrist a few minutes later.  My dad probably just gave me the benefit of the doubt that it happened, and cooked up a theory from there.
