I'm sure I remember someone on these boards providing the Vector Prime commercial for download once. I think that there might've even been a dedicated thread just for that one trailer.

Anyway, good luck with this project. It's a massive undertaking but would be well-worth it in the end. I'm sorry I can't help - I live in Australia and was born in the late 80's so I don't remember any Star Wars ads (they probably would've been the US ones anyway - nothing unique).

EDIT:
Looks like I was kind of right. The thread titled "Shadows of the Empire Trailer" turned up a copy of the Vector Prime trailer. The YSI link is there still but long out of date. I remember downloading it but I can't find it at the moment. You can ask daveytod for it, as it was him who provided it via yousendit.

Btw, I remembered I once archived the Force Commander mini-website. Here is the "teaser video" from the site (surprisingly it's still online!): Force Commander Teaser Video.

I could have sworn I had that Vector Prime trailer once, but after searching it did not turn up, so if you could get it to me somehow that would be great.

I've made some corrections and edits to the commercial list and added a few more commercials - most notably more of the 2005 commercials by 7 Eleven and Burger King featuring Star Wars characters. I was surprised to see one BK commercial even features Jawas! That would be only the second time ever by my count that Jawas have appeared in a commercial, originally only seen in a Burger Chef spot in 1978.

I think Skot's the webmaster of that site. So, while it might prove useful, I'm sure he already has it.

'Tis true.

I do think it would be a good idea to put notes down about what I have and what kind of quality it's in, as it's never too early to start the search for better quality. Perhaps this would go along with having a website with screen shots.

Troy: Thanks for the links, but yeah... I'm looking for real ads, not unofficial spoofs or fan creations. However, spoofs and fan-made commercials make worthy preservation projects in themselves.

In the meantime, I'm working on trying to document what my best sources are for the commercials on the list that I do have. Some of them are in decent quality and some are horribly small compressed files. I've also been helping Sluggo out a bit with the trailers project. There are a fair number that weren't included on the official DVDs.

Hey SKot,

I am pretty sure I still have the 1990's UK Star Wars 'Tunes' (menthol sweets/candy) advert/commercial on a PAL VHS at home. It's a spoof of a sequence from Star Wars. I am pretty sure they constructed the set (rather than using CG). It includes a very camp Imperial Lieutenant and a rather annoyed Darth.

Do you have this already? If not, would you be interested in including it?

When I get the chance, I will have a look through to see if there are any others on the tape.

I love that one! It's one of my all-time favorites... I've watched it a zillion times, and it still makes me laugh every time. I guess it's from 1996, which would mean the sets are undoubtedly real (funny how important that's become these days).

My copy of it is a file of medium resolution. I have been hoping to upgrade it, so it would be great to get a nicer copy for the project. Drop me an e-mail and we'll work out the details.

I still don't have the Vector Prime commercial. It was once on starwars.com here:

http://www.starwars.com/eu/lit/novel/1.html

...but now appears to be totally screwed up when you try to play it back. Not uncommon for the older videos on starwars.com - has anybody tried playing back some of the Lynne's Diaries from Episode I? They were converted from the original RealPlayer format to QuickTime when starwars.com converted over, and some of them now don't play at all. I think the same problem occurred with the Anatomy Of A Dewback documentaries.

Anyway, daveytod: write to me at 'skotk at hotmail dot com' and I'll get you a way to upload the Vector Prime thing to me.

In terms of novel trailers, I have:
* Darth Maul Shadow Hunter
* Shadows of the Empire
and the videogame one;
* Force Commander

I also have the Vector Prime commercial. This and the above ones were posted here on OT a long time ago and I've dug them up for you. I've uploaded the Vector Prime one to YouSendIt. Here's the link. Everyone: Please let SKot get it before the link expires.

In regards to videogame trailers/commercials/whatever-you-want-to-call-ems, I have a list of links to all of the active ones I could find via starwars.com and elsewhere. Did you want me to post those links at all?

Video game trailers: sure, go ahead and post 'em. I'd like to see what we might be missing.

This is on one of RowMan's Supplementals, and it is probably the best quality you will find of the Underoos commercial, all things considered.

I added what is surely the first ever Kenner Star Wars commercial: a spot for the Early Bird Certificate Package, after I found it on YouTube (horrible quality, unfortunately). I've never run across this before... I don't suppose anybody has this one at all?

The main question about the commercial is: was this aired in late 1977 or early 1978? The only clue is the time given for when the figures are to be mailed out - the voice-over says February as the earliest date, but does not mention the year. That leads me to believe the commercial may have aired sometime in January 1978. I know the Early Bird set was available for Christmas, but that doesn't mean they were necessarily advertising it on TV yet.

It's interesting to note that the Kenner Star Wars experience didn't really exist in 1977--no action figures were even available until February 1978 at the earliest. We tend to think of 1977 memories including playing with Star Wars figures, but in fact that was purely a 1978 experience.

--SKot

EDIT: And with that, it appears I am now ready for the trials. It's been a long time coming!

The figures were promised to be delivered by February 15, 1978. So kids would have receieved the certificate on Christmas day 1977.

And remember there was a snippet of the ad shown in either BBC3's Generation Jedi or that Sky One show last year.

No worries, SKot. I just hope that you were able to use some of them, a lot of them would have been far too low quality, yes?

I remember as a kid seeing a commercial that had those coins flying in the air. It aired around the time of Return of the Jedi. Anyone remember this?
