By now I wouldn't even be surprised if it'd be Lucas himself astroturfing against fans of the original theatrical cuts. D;

It's not even his film! It's Irvin Kershner's film. Why are they against us fans having the version that alot of us grew up with?

That's exactly what I put in my response to him...right before I blocked him. :-)
I usually block the most hostile commenters, but I've had a few who have managed to contact me anyway to express their displeasure at being blocked, by using other user names.

I get this kind of trolling all the time on my videos. I just block them if they become super trolls. They all spout the same crap over and over again; "it's Lucas' film, not yours. He can do what he wants" , " The special edition is his true vision" blah blah blah. One of the worse trolls i came across on my channel was nicotipro1. This guy was a pain. He has has several sock accounts and when he gets blocked he just creates another and so on.

And then you get the prequel gushers. I've had comments on my channel/videos because i commented that i thought that the prequels were pretty bad. Ones like " If you don't like the prequels then you can't call yourself a TRUE star wars fan. FACT", "The fact that you don't like the prequels just proves that your an idiot" etc etc etc.

And then you have the psychos. "how dare you touch these movies. They are George's and you have no right to do this. The best thing that could happen to you is if someone put a gun to your head and pulled the trigger", "prey i never meet you because i would put you in hospital and every real star wars fan should do the same thing", "stay in the uk you azzhole. come to america and there is a bullet waiting for you"

But the funniest one i had was this: " you f**king gay faggott. what gives you the rite to mess with star wars. I'd f**ck you right up the ass you gay piece of shit". I guess some people really don't understand what they are writing ;)

I'm actually looking forward to getting to the prequels so i can rip them apart and really piss these muppets off. ;)

But it does seem to be getting worse. You get these kids that think they are hard gangster types because they are sitting behind the safety of a keyboard. Confront them in real life and they would piss their pants and cry to mummy. There should be a system on youtube to stop this kind of bullshit but its all about generating money and the more hits they get the more money they make.

Mielr, I'm so sorry you have to put up with crap like that.  Thankfully my YouTube channel has mostly well-mannered people post on it, but every time I get an e-mail saying that someone has posted on one of my Dragon Ball-related videos, I hesitate to see what it says, for fear it's going to be a, "U liek the japonese version?  wut a gay little faggut u are.  english version rocks. grow up y ou little bitch!"  On their own, they're no skin off my back, but, cumulatively, they do start to wear me down.  So I can certainly understand why you'd want to disable comments eventually.  I just don't know where that person gets off.  It's your video!  You have every right to choose how and if people are allowed to react to it.  Damn sense of entitlement...

BTW, this isn't limited to YouTube.  Web feedback on just about everything is 99% trash.  Just look at the feedback on most news stories from respected newspapers' websites, and you'll see mostly mindless trashing.  Every story on yahoo is followed by 20,000 (or more) "feedback" posts that are utter trash, most of which is bashing someone.  What gets me is the incredible degree of disrespect that millions of people are willing to express publicly every day, to people they don't even know and on subjects they know nothing about.

This is true. I did kinda do this on the train home. My ringtone used to be Mark Hamil's line 'It's lucky you don't taste very good' (I had it because of a joke some friends and I made when talking about SEs.) Then two young kids (Not little kids, they were 12-13) came up to me recognizing Hamil's voice and asked me where it was from. When I told them it was from empire they laughed, telling me I was an idiot because that line wasn't in empire because they knew every line or something. They talked about 'Lucas' Vision' and the prequels being amazing because of Yoda's Light-sabre fights.

I then (kinda angrily, I don't like being called an idiot, certainly not by ignorant prequelite children) 'told' them that I was a film student (which I am), about the O-OT, problems with SE and the stupidity of the prequels .etc. Long story short, I made one of them cry and they ran off.

(I don't mean to sound like a horrible ass-hole on the train that picks fights with kids, but the two children were so unpleasant and their views so 'warped' that I felt an obligation to 'correct' them.)

Hmm, that two little kids would even claim to know the entire dialogue from ESB is encouraging.  Most of the time, knowing about something from 30 years ago means you must either be an old dude or an idiot.

The "fans" who are getting exactly what they wanted on Blu Ray certainly seem to feel threatened when people post something that doesn't jive with their perception of reality. What frightens them so?

^ Yes (was posted on pg.1) there is and people need to use it or all these complaints about people's speech will end up with governments forcing upon all of us a manditory online ID system.  Do Not Want.  Now you can chime in with what i'm attempting to hide.

It never ceases to amaze me how totally ignorant and juvenile some YouTube commenters are, that take the time to rant irrationally over certain movies.  There's plenty of dumb-asses out there in internet-land, it seems.

This is why I try to find decent 'trailer' uploads for my thread that have their 'comments disabled', if possible.  This function isn't used often enough for my liking, unfortunately, lol.

I generally have mixed feelings about the originals verses the special editions issue.  There are some changes I liked and others that I don't and some even that I don't care either way.  The Jabba's palace dance number scenes for example, pretty much sucks in both versions and while I think the overly elaborate Mos Eisley intro was talking it a bit too far, the original always felt a little too short as well.  I don't want either version to go away.  Both versions have their strong points as far as I'm concerned.

Comments like these piss me off no matter what the source.  I'd be upset about getting a comment like that but I've had people redicule me just for saying possitive things about the prequels and special editions.  I think everybody needs to be aware of the things they say in this respect.

In spite of this, I received the following comment on my profile page, someone who went out of their way to say the following:

"You know you just look like a stupid bitch for disabling comments on your Han Shot First video. How about you grow up you little faggot and learn how to handle words like a man. You had no legit reason to ban people from commenting on your video, you were just being an annoying bitch. Grow up kid."

I just wonder WHAT exactly this dude had to say about an old video featuring years old news that, when denied that chance, made him so filled with rage and hatred.

Everytime I hear "It's Lucas's movie he can do what he wants" I wonder how the poster would feel if, as normal, the STUDIO owned these movies. What if misc. executives at Fox got to decide how to change the OT? It would just as much be their right to do whatever they want, right?

Well, Lucas is a colossal hypocrite when it comes to these things.  Adding color to black and white films is bad because it's changing film history, but he can screw around and update his films.  The ability to go back and tamper with films should rest in the hands of the filmmaker, not the studio.  Yet it's okay when Irvin Kershner is the filmmaker, and he's the studio.

^ GL and friends were using the colorization issue to power grab more rights for creators.  GL and friends wanted the ability for the original creator to be able to stop the distribution of a derivative work.  They played up the notion of non-creators putting out altered versions. (colorization by a the rights owner in the 3 Stooges case) The US Congress disagreed with this notion and GL and friends lost that round.

So the colorization issue was more a smoke screen.  Lucas has never to my knowledge said anything against derivative works, done by the original creator.

I could have sworn the disclaimers that used to appear in front of colorized films when shown on tv were a tangible result of those lobbying efforts?

 They were.

I don't know why SWTrilogy doesn't have a "This film has been modified to include material not in the original release" disclaimed the way films are supposed to. Maybe it has to do with the fact that the studio doesn't own copyright on them.

Is there such a disclaimer in existence? There are only a handful of films outside the OT that would qualify for having one.
