I'm going to try....
Could it be the original theatrical cut?

I'm going to try....
Oh, and it is the original theatrical - check Milner's death date... :)
As the 40th anniversary was this week, any updates?

I'll be damned, the info on IMDB was correct after all. Glad to finally get this confirmed.
I felt the picture needed to be posted in the thread just for the sake of it. ;)
We want you to be aware that we have no plans—now or in the future—to restore the earlier versions.
Sincerely, Lynne Hale publicity@lucasfilm.com
When overlapped and aligned (heads & plane) with the 1998 DVD, not only did GL change Milner's obituary date from June to December ... but he also had the text disproportionately lowered!
As C-3P0 might say, "Will this never end?" :O
Anything happening with this lately? There's another adapted scope 16mm on Ebay with 16 hours left to go.

I'd love to see a proper restoration of this movie. I wish I had the resources and the time. Even if it's a matter of somebody using the blu ray as their source.
I don't mean to necropost, but a think a film this important deserves a decent treatment.
"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

Original trailer up for auction:
I had the pleasure of seeing a 35mm screening of AG last night. The print was in good shape, on the whole, with wonderful warm colour and grain (though strangely the entire 'obituary card' was missing from the end... I wonder who would have removed that and why?)
Has there been any progress on the 16mm scan? I wonder if Poita might be in a position to help out.

Just watched my AG BD again. Love the movie but wow some kind of restoration like the one above would be nice.
Hope this project gets off the ground. Love this movie!
This definitely needs more attention.

There's attention, it's just behind the scenes at the moment... :)

I had the fortune of seeing a 35mm print of American Graffiti at the New Beverly Cinema a few years ago in 2013/2014. Sadly the print included all of the Special Edition changes (colorful sky at the beginning, changed end card, etc.) and the 1978 re-issue changes.
A few years ago I was looking at buying a adapted scope 16mm version on ebay that was on LPP (not the one listed above), but ebay malfunctioned and my bid didn’t go through. Print went for around $160. 😦
I still wonder if that print was of the 1978 version…
Don’t know if this project is dead or not, but another 16mm scope print has turned up.

I’ve long wanted to hear the original mix by Walter Murch, the Mono Mix.
It does not exist on any home video version. Even the earliest Discovision Laserdisc is the Stereo Remix done after the success of Star Wars.
is this dead?
I have no more links sorry.
Will do in future though
I wish I knew. 😕

If someone could obtain the original closing credits along with John Milner’s original death date and get them scanned, I’m hoping to integrate them with the Blu-ray footage as part of my 1973 theatrical cut restoration, which I plan to start work, and a thread, on after I finish the 1971 theatrical cut of THX-1138.

Don’t forget the mono mix as well and the opening

There’s so many if’s and maybe’s in this sentence, stated and implied, I almost lost count.
Was this print ever fully scanned?

It’s a shame this project died, I would’ve loved to see this.
