a fistful of dollars and for a few dollars more special editions

they were only released in the uk. as pal releases and not the u.s., has anyone ever thought of doing an ntsc conversion would it be worth it?

I still think that Sergio Leone’s original vision should be preserved and these are much closer to his original directors cuts of the films.

Another director whose work i think should be given better treatment here in the states is akira kurosawa, the criterion releases while good are not as good as the remastered japan region 2 releases and I think these japan releases should be put on region 1 in some sort of project, and since they don’t have english subtitles anyone with knowledge of japanese could do a fansubtitle, or the subtitles and english audio commetary could be pulled from criterion to create a better version.

As an anime fan I would also like to see a preservation of the Yamato Films the way they were presented in japan on dvd and laserdisc, not the lame treatment given by voyager entertainment.

I don't think it would really be worth converting two commercially available PAL DVDs to NTSC, you'd be better off just buying a $40 DVD player (such as a Cyberhome) that plays PAL to begin with.

I didn't know that about Kurosawa films. Would it not be possible to take the video from the Japanese discs and re-author the disc with subtitles from the Criterion edition?

I used to be very active on this forum. I’m not really anymore. Sometimes, people still want to get in touch with me about something, and that is great! If that describes you, please email me at [my username]ATgmailDOTcom.

Hi everybody. You’re all awesome. Keep up the good work.

How do the UK special edition cuts of the films differ from the normal U.S. DvDs?
There is not much info over at Amazon.co.uk

The U.K. version has special features.
Neither include the original Italian audio, so a conversion of some kind could be justified for the sake of adding the original audio if a decent quality source could be found.

Is there any way to get these with the original (at least, as original as it can be) Italian audio with English subs?

From one of the posted comments after the review on that site, it seems that the German set is the one that would be the best masters.

Quote:
"Paramount are releasing A Fistful of Dollars and For a Fe Dollars more in Germany in two disc SE on October 6th. The restored original mono audio is included and the picture quality is said to be better also.
Also For a Few Dollars More has the restored beating scene.

You can get them individually or in alimited edition wooden box with watch!

It should not be a problem to enter subtitles at all. If you get a text document of the subtitles from the Criterion edition, you can just dump that into a program such as Adobe Encore DVD to make new text subtitles over the Japanese video . You would prob still need to have someone watch the Criterion edition and mark down the punch in and punch out times for each subtitle so they match up under the correct dialog. This sounds like a major costly project for sure.

So the Japanese discs look better then that new German set? Does the Japanese version have the restored beating sceen?

If so, do we need:

Video From: Japanese Discs
Mono English: U.S. basic DVD version
Mono Italian: German Set
Subtitles: Criterion edition

THX, I might be missing something, but I think you may be a bit confused. The Japanese versions being mentioned aren't for the Sergio Leone westerns but rather the films of Akira Kurosawa (Seven Samurai, etc.).

I know MGM was supposed to release the SEs of "A Fistful of Dollars" and "For a Few Dollars More" here in R1 but then MGM was bought out by Sony. No word on whether we'll be getting them.

who has the U.k. or french edition of the Flash Gordon remaster? They are pal would it be possible to do an ntsc conversion?

Plus I still want to know if anyone has done an Ntsc conversion of both a fistfull of dollars and for a few dollars more special extended editions. They only have The good the bad and the ugly extended here in the u.s.
