Empire of Dreams is great and so is Everything or Nothing, the Untold Story of 007, but those are just documentaries that were included as special features I guess. I really like the commentary track for the Scream dvd.

The Lord of the Rings bonus features chronicle every step of making movies in the early 2000’s and the Hobbit ones show how they’re made in the 2010’s. Both sets are incredible cheap film schools.
Absolutely. I recently had a chance to speak briefly with Mark Ordesky (executive producer on the LOTR trilogy) and I told him how much the films and the bonus docs meant to me growing up. He said that was exactly why Peter Jackson wanted to make them - to inspire kids to want to make movies and to give them everything they needed to know about how a film like this is done.

These are acceptable examples as they are usually part of the special or bonus features on sets.

Blade Runner is the definitive in this category. I waited in line for the stores to open on release day, skipped school and watched through the entire briefcase. Before 2007, there were only a few fan sites and Future Noir, but it was well worth the wait.
Others would include the 007 SE documentaries and far too many commentaries to count.
