Your Favorite type of space battle...

Personally for me, I'd want to see a ship come out of nowhere and turn the tide, like in Star Trek: First Contact, playing really good orchestral music, and having a David Vs. Goliath styled battle against a flagship. What are you thoughts? Here is a link to my idea with a storyboard:

Personally I've was also inspired by a first season episode of the Kevin Sorbo show Andromeda, and the space battle in Star Trek Nemesis.
Do any of you expect a space battle like that in 7,8, or 9?

I prefer space battles where the fighting is restricted to large ships -- capital ships, gunships, destroyers, etc. -- without any small, one-man fighters involved in the action.

In the case of SW (aka ANH), I could see why fighters were involved in a space campaign -- so I'm willing to excuse it -- but from ROTJ onward, I just don't get the logic of fighters involving themselves in battles with capital ships; they don't have the firepower to take down large ships, so basically they're just being wasted blowing away other fighters.

So yeah -- I'm hoping the ST limits fighters to surface battles and leaves the big space battles to the larger ships.

That's absurd. It is like saying that aircraft were useless against ships in pacific theatre of WW2, when it was completely opposite.

In fact, starfighters are the only thing that makes the rebel victory in ROTJ reasonable... assuming rebels had better bombers (B-Wings) that devastated imperial ships.

Those ships didn't have deflector shields, did they?

ROTJ is a mediocre, lazy-ass retread of SW anyway, so I'm not predisposed to being generous towards it in the first place.

While I liked the space fight in ST Nemesis, I would not want this type of battle in Star Wars. The dogfights in Star Wars are so iconic, that they can't simply abandon them.

I think ROTJ showed really good how this type of space battle works. The capital ships fight each other, while the rebels' fighters slip through a star destroyer's defense and attack critical systems like the shield generator. I don't see why this tactic should be obsolete by the time of VII.

Also, I don't want to see another secret super weapon right after the second death star, so no flagship, please.

That being said, I think your idea fits quite well in the Star Trek multiverse, but be careful not to overdo it on these "super ships", as the effect wears off pretty fast. "If every ship is super, noone will be."

I too am tired of superweapons.  The Death Star I and II (which I don't find to be too cliched, as they serve very different story purposes) were cool, but when we start talking about Sun Crushers and Galaxy Guns and World Devastators and Starbusters...it just gets so old.  It's like the Empire only knows how to do one thing, and that is build another superweapon with a supremely fatal flaw.  I'm not too keen on one ship coming and saving the day.  I like it better when a better general manages to outwit the other in spite of poor odds.

This being the "General Star Wars Discussion" subsection, the only correct answer is "Star Wars Space Battles", all other answers are invalid.

But that aside... I prefer space battles to involve a squadron of Star Furys, the Whitestar and capitol ships of at least 3 different races of the League of non-alligned worlds ;-)

VIZ TOP TIPS! - PARENTS. Impress your children by showing them a floppy disk and telling them it’s a 3D model of a save icon.

I modeled those designs, it took me a couple of months, thanks.

I think someone missed the joke...
