^Some of the comments are amazing...ly geeky. :p Turbolaser this, Borg that, etc, etc... Haha.
^ Well don't you know that within an hour of a Borg cube reaching the Death Star stationing itself on the other side away from the laser, It'd assimilate the entire structure? This estamate is conclusively determined via observation of the Star Trek episode Regeneration. Wherein the flagship Enterprise gets assimilated by Borg Technology. It only takes about a minute to assimilate the structure. Given an estamate that the CGI Enterprise is 10 football fields in area. We can conclude that ¼ of the Death Star should be assimilated within the first half-hour. Given the exponential rate of growth for Borg nano-tech. It stands to reason that the next sections should be overtaken within a ½ time as the preceeding section. Therefore 15 minutes later from previous ¼ takeover the Death Star should be ½ borg sphere. Consequently, 7.5 minutes later it should be a Borg Sphere.
(Seriously though, I'm just sleep deprived and, just making all this up. I'm likely completely wrong. I'de be suprised if I'm right.)

Put Star Wars, Barbarella, and Ray Harryhausen in a blender, and you get this Italian epic!

And who knew David Hasselhoff was a Jedi knight?
Where were you in '77?

Well, technically, none of it is right. :p Maybe in a few hundred years. Haha.
P.S. I've had Starcrash for a long time and it's on my to watch list. Thanks for the reminder.

'THE HUMANOID' was another Italian 'STAR WARS'-influenced movie, which came out a year later. While 'STARCRASH' had a score by the great John Barry, this one happened to have a score by the equally great Ennio Morricone!
It's never been released on DVD (only videotape) but it seems to be fully up on Youtube if you root around, and can bear it.
Sadly, I can't seem to find the trailer for it, but here's a taste of what audiences at the time had to put up with to fill their 'STAR WARS' void until 'EMPIRE' came along....

I also have The Humanoid and haven't watched it yet. Haha. :p
I've now re-typed the *proper* clip I meant to show in my first example above Ripplin. Check it out! Even adywan couldn't save this movie. :)
The l'Umanoid stars Jaws from the Bond films. If you're still watching these things wait till you get to "Escape From Galaxy III" (aka Italian SW ripoff 3)... <shivers>
Such a nice Lite Brite galaxy. :p
It's Eegah in outer space! Richard Kiel's more infamous movie role if you're an MST3K fan. ;)
Did that other movie steal it's FX footage from Starcrash, or was it from the same studio?
Here's another knockoff, this time from Japan. Message From Space!

Those of you who played Astron Belt at the arcade back in the 80's may experience some Deja Vu. ;)
The War in Space is probably the first film to try and cash in on Star Wars' success. The story goes that some Toho studio execs were in Hollywood in summer 1977, and saw the huge lines at Mann's Chinese Theater. They got their own space movie into production soon as they returned home, and into theaters in Japan before Star Wars even opened there!

Scenes from a spurious English dub version of the film featuring a giant horned Wookiee ripoff. ;)

What is it with Japan and spaceships that look like seagoing vessels anyway?
Where were you in '77?
^Space Battleship Yamato was a huge influence on many Japanese movies, it seems. Plus, it's probably cheap to film inside one and say it's sci-fi.
Every on-screen lightsaber ignition in movie chronological order. For retraction it's the reverse order. I only put in clips where you can see the lightsaber ignite/retract and not just hear it. Also only put in clips where the lightsaber is intentionally ignited/retracted.

Dunno, but they're probably gonna go ape for *this* at the end of the year - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZTuPK66J300
I really hope the movie is released here. I loved Star Blazers as a kid.
People thought at the time it was a SW clone, not realizing it had aired in Japan a couple years before Star Wars came out. There has long been speculation that Lucas saw Space Battleship Yamato during his time in the country.
Where were you in '77?
Interesting performance of the SW theme...
Where were you in '77?
Impressive! (most impressive, yeah yeah...) I can't imagine how much planning and practice went into it. :)
I keep wondering what’s in the can? Looks like Jar, Jar Binks meat!
Jar Jar Binks now being served at galaxy 5 star class restaurant near you.
Only the originals from the 70mm six-track Dolby stereo Dolby format 42 will sound better on DVD/Bluray.
I'd feel bad eating a sentient creature, no matter how annoying it is. :p
So you're a vegetarian?
SENTINENT MEANING SELF AWARE! Very few other animals are such. Egad, you and Pinky would get along Mr Frink.
A Goon in a Gaggle of 'em
Good point. You're obviously not a self-aware rat. :p
"Cognitus, ergo sum" my friend. I'm a laboratory rat whose genes have been spliced. Humans do not typically eat self-aware beings, such as the dolphin.
A Goon in a Gaggle of 'em
Well, you had better stay away from my oven...
