Would you still watch SW without John William's brilliant score?

This is a question that has bugged me for awhile, and I thought you guys might want to ponder it as well.
The naswer for me is no, honestly it's what makes the movie - imagine it with some sort of generic tecno beat... ugh...

I understand your question, and it is legit, but scores are a big part of movies, so it is tough to rule them out and wonder what they would be like.

Would I watch the Godfather without that great score?

Would I watch Hoosiers without that great score?

Would I watch Jaws without that great score?

Would I watch Raiders of the Lost Ark without that great score?

Same goes for SW.

Well, considering that, when listening to the soundtrack, I can "see" in my mind's eye the corresponding scene from the film, I would probably have to go with "no". It's just not the same (This is another reason why I loved playing X-Wing...the music would adapt to the events of the game, "telling" me what was happening at any given moment.)

And I never saw Hoosiers....

I doubt it would be as good but of course i would. It is practically impossible to imagine the film with anything else. Probably Jerry Goldsmith would have done it if Williams didn't.

I'm not big on "what if" questions mainly because if William's score was not used then whatever would have been used would have been normal and in that alternate universe William's score would have been weird. Kind of like if things had turned out differently would we be asking "Would you have enjoyed Star Wars better if Harrison Ford had played Han Solo instead of Nick Nolte?"

Nick Nolte would have been awesome, but Christopher Walken would have been the best.

Am I the only fan of Perry King's Han Solo?

I'm a huge believer in that great music is a key ingredient in a great movie. So, yeah, what would CINEMA itself be without John Williams? Rather sucky, I'd imagine. He's responsible for some of the, no, THE most memorable scores in cinema history.
He big in nothing important in good elephant.

A better question would be: Would you watch the Star Wars Holiday Special if it had a better score?

Star Wars would be hard to watch without good music but I think I could.

id like to wtach the rough cut or lost cut of star wars with the temp track music for curiosities sake.

Mars the god of war from Holst the planets was a very awsome choice as was the theme of the charioteers from ben hur.

did anyone know that both john williams and jerry goldsmith studied at the juliard school of music around the same time or that both were in the 20th century fox orchestra conducted by the famed alfred newman whos fox fanfare williams resurrected for star wars.

they were both contemporaries and to all accounts classmates and friends, Jerry Goldsmith is immortalized for creating the fanfare for star trek the motion picture that became the theme for star trek the next generation when mixed with tos theme. John Williams is of course going to be remembered mostly for his star wars scores for the original trilogy of films, after he is long gone. I guess id also put him up there for e.t., raiders of the lost ark, superman, jaws, jurassic park, hook, harry potter and the prequel scores for sw.

Heres to hoping that his new indiana jones score with the london syphony orchestra is nothing less than stellar.

His music is the only consistently enjoyable feature of the prequels for me.

An odd question, but a very answerable one. The answer is no, absolutley not. Music is as key a component as the camera itself. The musical score can make or break a movie, and if Williams is conducting, the movie will be twice as good. As Tiptup said, the only excellent part of the prequels was William's score. I kind of have to wonder where he found inspiration for the prequel score. The films weren't good enough to merit such excellent music.
