Would any of you be willing to wait ....

.... until 2015/16/17 for ultimate editions of Star Wars, Empire and Jedi, respectively? Because at this point, that's the absolute earliest chance I think we have of seeing the OOT properly restored.

It would be nice if GL threw in a theatrical TPM with its blu-ray 3D package next year, to hold us over.

Do I have a choice? LOL! I'd actually be happy if I knew for sure that the OOT was coming out on blu-ray four, five & six years from now.

Why 2015/16/17, though? 2017 is SW's 40th anniversary, 2020 is ESB's and 2023 is ROTJ's.

You ask this question like I was planning on purchasing any Star Wars-related products until the OOT is released.  (I'm not.)

So, I guess yeah, I'm willing to wait.  Because I have been since 2006, which is the last time I spent any money on Star Wars.

I haven't given Lucas any money since 2004 and I see no reason to start.

I'll pick up the Blu-rays of the OT once fan editors have used them to create edits that are as close to the theatricals as possible. Lucas gets his money for providing a source, and I get (something close to) what I want.

Now that I think about it, I guess I was kinda preaching to the choir with this thread.

Anyway, the reason I chose those dates is that those are the dates for the 3D conversions of ANH, ESB and ROTJ, respectively.

No because Lucas has made it clear they will never be released again, they are rough drafts that he wishes had never been released to the public.

I'm not willing to wait. Neither am I willing to pump any more of my money into the Lucas disappointment machine.

At this point, nearing 50, I don't have any interest in the film Star Wars anymore. My 2006 GOUT is enough for me, which I last watched five years ago.  Lucas has contaminated the franchise to the point of it being toxic.

Someone pointed out the other day (sorry, I forgot who) that this is the only film in history that has this much fanbase hatred and venom. Lucas has once again broke new ground - he's actually managed to turn his own fanbase against itself.

I'm only here to support the cause, expose the decades of lies, and to discuss my personal Star Wars canon with fellow nerds.  Which, by the way, has been largely formed & guided by some of you here.  That's a big deal to me, in case I don't thank you folks enough.  If it weren't for you, I wouldn't even be a Star Wars fan anymore.

Truth be told, if a proper release of the original Star Wars were released, I wouldn't rush out to get it.  It's not fun anymore.  It's become work to be a fan.

Foster, Daley, and Zahn are Star Wars now.

I'm with Anchorhead. All of the beauty and magic that that Star Wars has brought me is pretty much gone. I just don't give a shit any more. I want the OOT. That's all I want. I didn't buy the GOUT, and I haven't bought a single Star Wars product in years. I didn't watch the T.V. show, I won't go see the rereleases, and I won't go buy the BR or anything else. The OOT isn't coming ever again. And that's the only thing I want. I'm at the point where I just no longer give a fuck.

It may not be your thing, and that's completely fine, but I'd love for you to see Harmy's Star Wars De-specialized Edition.

You may think meh I've got no interest in this Star Wars or it may rekindle the fire you once had, who knows.

MikeOT is right. The OT just isn't the same anymore. I'm at the point were I'm not really excited by the films. I hold onto the memories I had when it was just the trilogy, but Star Wars isn't Star Wars anymore. Star Wars has become a whore and George Lucas is the pimp that collects. Sure, he fixes her up real pretty, but at the end of the day, we just want all natural.

"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

Have to hope that one day Lucas will release the original films on Blu-ray/Digital Download/Holodeck/whatever... but it's not looking good.

Probably get all three on one Blu-ray as an easter egg in some future re-release.

Since they're like poetry, what with the rhyming and all, I find that I only need to watch three out of the six films.
