Grinch was crap. Cat int he hat looked just as bad.

Grinch I could watch once and that was about it. The only reason it was tolerable was because it was Carrey. Plus, the Grinch character is supposed to be scary, so making that horrific Grinch suit was fine. Whereas the Cat in the Hat is supposed to be friendly and good and all that jazz, but the movie version looked just as, if not more, horrific than the Grinch.

My problems with The Cat in the Hat are myriad. First, I don't think the character was scary enough; you're supposed to have this giant cat who walks into Conrad and Sally's house and effectively turns their lives upside down because both don't know how to have fun on a rainy day. Mike Myers didn't convey this. Second, the movie version whacks you over the head with characterisations of the kids that are obnoxious and far too obvious; Conrad is hell on wheels and Sally is a control freak, whereas in the book, both seem stuck in the "I have nothing to do" mode, which is the way they should have left it. Finally, the film is far too adult; I'm not going to take my kids to a movie that references Playboy centrefolds when referring to the children's mother and has Mike Myers spouting lines like "Dirty hoe!"
Keep in mind that I haven't seen the whole film yet, nor do I intend to, but I have seen more than half, working where I do. It's just awful.

Princess Leia: I happen to like nice men.
Han Solo: I'm a nice man.

"Dirty ho"? Woah. Had no idea it got that bad. Not in a "children's" flick, at least.

the Hoos in Grinch scared me. they are hideous.

In general I think it can be agreed that turning a 15 page kids book into a 90 minute movie is an all around bad idea. What are they going to start adapting into films next? Farside cartoons? greeting cards? the backs of cereal boxes?

Hey guys, there's a movie reviewer on WXRT 93.1 FM Chicago called the regular guy and he had his "worst of 2003" on the air this morning. Here they are...

#5 - TIE - Ben Affleck duology of Daredevil and Gigli
#4 - Beyond Borders
#3 - The Order
#2 - Matrix: Reloaded
#1 - Cat in the Hat and all related TV commercials

I wouldn't have put The Order and Beyond Borders on a worst movie list; they were just mediocre.

Princess Leia: I happen to like nice men.
Han Solo: I'm a nice man.

Well, he opted to not put the blatantly obvious movies on there like From Justin to Kelly, Kangaroo Jack, et al. Save for Gigli which he said he included because it made Affleck seem even worse since Daredevil was already on there. So he had space to fill. Would've like to have seen a whole top 10 worst of list. He did a top 10 best films. ROTK was #1. For the past three years, the LOTR movies have been #1 on his lists. And he was never a fan of the stories before. Never read the books, doesn't want to. Goes to show that you don't need an understanding of the books to enjoy the films.

Country Bears. Okay, so it was more of an exhibit than an actual ride. But six of one, half dozen of the other...

Usually the same day as the Oscars. I'm fully expecting a sweep by Gigli. And yes, Country Bears is something I'm glad I haven't seen in its entirety. I'm waiting for the EPCOT movie personally...lol.

In it's entirety? Meaning you've actually seen some of it? I'm so sorry. That one got a Golden Suck Award from me before it was even released.

The in-laws bought it last Christmas. When they popped it in the VCR, I promptly went to the computer/videogame room and began surfing. What I saw of it amounts to about 5 min, but that was bad enough. Not as scarring as Fellini Satyricon though.
