AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

I never really liked Palps delivery of that line.

Han's line about the Kessel run should have been fixed because the use of "parsecs" makes no sense (it's a unit of distance).

It was once subtitled to 40 lightyears here on TV which doesn't make anymore sense, LOL. Those subtitles were classic.

I don't like Veers' speech in Vader's chamber at all because it looks like the actor (not Veers) just shitted in his pants and the speech is too robotic. A little weird for Julian Glover.

When I was young I thought the way that Harrison said, "Princess? What's going on?" sounded like Han was calling Luke princess.

This is somewhat compounded by Mark's facial expression right after the line.

As far as telling the stormtroopers about the prison section, that was a clearly a ruse since 3PO already knew the stormtropers knew where Luke was and was pretending to be an imperial droid. But the basic point holds.

Ah, yea, got that mixed up apparently :)

Yea, seems like whatever line that could be potentially bad in the OT, is still salvaged (and then some) by either good delivery, or some degree of irony.

"That's not a moon. It's a space station." could easily come off as cheesy. I believe it's even on some "cheesiest movie quotes" video on Youtube.
But come on, that moment was just epic :)

I am going to go out on a limb and say there is nothing i dislike about the oot, in terms of dialogue, pacing. storytelling, effects etc.

Any of the real cringe worthy lines were not in the final film, someone else actor or scriptwriter made the dialog better.

On Star Wars, Huyck/Katz rewrote 30% plus of the dialogue.

Empire written by Kasdan, then rewritten on set by Ford and Kersh.

While the story of Jedi is mostly Lucas if not for Kasdan and Marquand, Hamill and Fisher's input it would have been a disaster on the order of crystal skull or revenge of the sith.

Nope, ROTJ.

What is this prequel trilogy you speak of? Sounds pretty bad...

Had Lucas had his way this would have been in empire.

Leia "I Love You".

Han "Just remember that 'cause I'll be back"

Instead of the awesome "I Know"

I thought it was "I love you too"?

Ford delivers a couple of lines kinda flatly. Like a big jumble of words with no punctuation. Notably:

"This baby still has a few surprises left in her sweetheart"

Slow down! "For God's sake, punctuate!"

Keep Circulating the Tapes.

END OF LINE

(It hasn’t happened yet)

See, that's not as bad as "I love you, too." I would actually have enjoyed that line as well... yeah, I know, I'm crazy. "I know" is as good as it gets though.

It was Kasdan who wrote that, actually; he was reportedly furious at all the on-set changes being made to his dialogue -- but, compared to that line, "I know" is a definite improvement.

Not an option; "faster, more intense", remember? ;-)

It can make sense in world of quantum mechanics which hyperspace must be.

Perhaps he plotted a short cut on the navicomputer that was less than 12 parsecs and thus the observer would consider the ship "fast".

Personally I never knew what a parsec was, and still have not looked at a dictionary definition. It made perfect sense to a 7 year old and still sits well with me. That scene was more about the transaction and revelation of debt, adding to character. More subtext in that single scene than found in the entire spoon-feeding PT. And I was 7 and I knew what was going on without having to have some cartoon character puke exposition about what a parsec actually was. The force also made perfect sense without further explanation.
[/StopTalkingAboutPT]

Also, in my mind, "bad" dialogue is not the same as factually incorrect dialogue.

Parsec: a unit of distance used in astronomy, equal to about 3.25 light years.

Defined by the distance an object would have to be from Earth if its parallax was one arcsecond.

Really I would prefer if no Earth units of measurement were mentioned in Star Wars.  (Not only parsecs, but meters when describing the width of the DS exhaust port.)  As a scientist, it really brings me out of universe.  Now if this was hard sci-fi, different story.

Because Star Wars was my first exposure to the term "parsec," it still sounds Star Warsy to this day.

How about Yoda's "There is another Sky...walker" line, shouldn't he have said "another Skywalker there is"?

I don't think it's bad dialogue, and I can see why it's dramatically better to end the sentence with Skywalker, but it's kinda funny to think about.  Maybe he was so sick at this point he couldn't speak correctly anymore.  I mean uncorrectly.
