pardon my questioning but if the source is only 16gb how is BD25 vs. BD50 going to make a real difference? If you're going to go BD50 I'd put the whole trilogy one disc!

Great news that your coming back to up the bar again. Hopefully these new releases will appear just after my exams finish, and I can really relax with some glorious HD star wars :p.

When you say Blu-Ray format, are we talking full 50gb (or thereabouts) m2ts h264 releases? Amazing. I'll end up mkv'ing them myself due to storage constraints, but regardless I really can't wait.

Keep up the good work! Be sure to post the NZB when they're done :p.

EDIT: I notice in the empire samples currently up on usenet, the AR is incorrect? Well, by that I mean its a 16:9 encode with black bars to make a 2.20:1 letterbox. I assume this will be fixed in the final release? No point encoding that extra res, waste of bandwidth surely? And it could be a pain for those with anamorphic projector setups.

Blu-ray standards are 16:9.  If this were a basic internet release then the letterboxing should be cut, but it's not.  Incorrectly letterboxed Blu-rays will appear stretched vertically on the screen.

Well I was not aware of that! Seems a bit silly to me nowadays!

I've seen comments from some rather knowledgeable people that the official 2006 Star Wars trilogy GOUT DVD's appear to have surprisingly accurate colors (no weird color alterations from the original appearance). So they could help a lot as a guide to color correction, setting proper original white points/white levels (I think that's what it's called), etc. in the HD broadcast of the 2004 versions. :)

wait, this cant be right. does anyone have the 2006 release? Were the colors restored to some normalcy?

I hear that.  I'm a week away from finishing college, and I can't think of anything else that'll bring me back to life from the nightmare that I'm currently going through than these releases maybe beginning sometime soon.

Ahhh...  Now faced with some free time I'm finding it very tempting to put my AVCHDs in for a dance.  I will try to be patient, but its getting harder to do.

Wookiegroomer, what's the scoop on your Blu-Ray release? Is it the '97 or '04 edition or some hybrid of the two? Am eager to hear all about this, including specs! :)

I sort of thought f it towards the end. The adjustments aren't what I was hoping for and the Bluray authoring technology for home use sucks major bantha fooder so I couldn't do ANY of the things I was planning. There is no true reference for the 1980 edition except for the crappy DVD releases the lucas threw together so trying to match colors and such to something that was already washed out and starting to deterorate was less than an ideal source.

Also, Being that I upgraded hardware and to Vista 64bit half way through my project I lost most of the functionality I needed to make the project closer to my vision. So a second disk will be showing up with the features as separate items. Each time I sample the final product I do feel that I came close to the mark but always feel I could have gone back to do a little better. Maybe you guys can decide.

The iso file is 38.4GB and even if you strip it down to the video and one audio your still left at around 31.7GB. Unless you completely ruin the quality by shrinking it to fit on some other media you will HAVE to go dual layer bluray or remux to store on hard disk.

You said Bluray authoring technology for home use sucks,so what program did you use,and did you do any touching up or changing of the video at all,and if so what changes did you make?

and like Ady said,do you have a sample clip we can gander at?

Thanks for this by the way,are you planning on doing the others as well?

BRAVO!! Absolutely incredible work! Thank you. :-)

This Blu Ray edition will definitely hold me over until George decides to go blue.

Just one (very minor) critique. I have noticed that the center channel volume is about -4 db lower than the rest of the mix. I was having difficulty hearing voices over the music and effects. This was easy to fix by simply raising my center channel 4 db.

A stellar production! I am looking forward to future BD upgrades.

Is that for both DTS and Dolby Digital versions? I am really sorry to let that slip through. I might have to remaster it again if that's the case.

I used Adobe Premier Pro & Adobe Encore with some things Sony Vegas 8c. Sorry no sample. I put up what I had if you want it, if not move along.

Disk 2 of Empire is in the works then after that I will start New Hope. There wouldn't be a disk two if I could what I wanted to do with Premier and Encore.
